Sammy Davis Jr. - My Man's Gone Now Lyrics

My man's gone now
Ain't no use a listenin'
For his tired footsteps
Climbin' up the stairs

Old man sorrow's
Come to keep me company
Whisperin' beside me
When I say my prayers
When I say my prayers

He come around
He come up, he come around
Ain't that I mind workin'
Workin' means travelers
Journeyin' together
To the promised land

But old man sorrow
Mountin' all the way with me
Tell' me that I'm old now
Since I lose my man
Since I lose my man

Since I lose my man

I wouldn't say her version is better than Ella's but the musical arrangement definitely is! Wish Ella could sing on this arrangement!

I cannot agree that this is better than Ella's. MacRae screeches rather than sign. She got better in later years but at this stage her sound is like chalk on a board...yikes!

He's not run away...he was killed...left her alone with their children. This is wail of deep grief and wretchedness.

Phaedra Ovid in the 1959 film adaption that did not happen.

as much as i love ella, this version kills it. ugh. utter perfection.

Veronica Faison I feel her pain. I have that same pain in my heart. Carmen is able to interpret each song with such personal depth that many who listen to her sing can feel exactly each emotion that the lyric is trying to express. My humble opinion 🐝
