If you listen carefully: it seems to be a really private song of Vorphallack aka Michael Locher. The franco-swiss accent in combination to the down-tuned c-sharp guitar and the hideous background sampler, just makes this sound gorgeous! For me: one of the best top-ten records of all time! (And i am listening to any kind of music;-)
Besides: the original 94´ vinyl sounds a lot better than the poor cd-mastering!

I remember running home to listen to it when it was released in 1994:)Musically and atmospherically great album but taking it's ideological layer too seriously is just childish. They moved on and glorify life not death nowadays. Also well done by Waldemar Sorychta, brilliant Polish musician and producer.

Yeah, this is the epitome of Black Metal. As I said in comment on another Samael song recently (Flagellation... look, you'll find it), "When this came out, it was THE BEST of everything that was Black Metal, shortly after Black Metal first spawned from Death Metal."

Just because it doesn't sound like it was recorded on a casio tape deck doesn't mean it's not Black Metal. Sorry if you disagree.

Well , let's not mock the whole genre...There were still really good songs from other bands even if the genre itself had a slow fall for a period..But then again who cares?we still have these epic songs to enjoy:) For example i still love Windir after all these years..

Black metal has gone downhill ever since Samael started doing industrial metal. Don't get me wrong... I like their newer stuff, too. But, in my honest opinion, Ceremony of Opposites was the greatest black metal album ever, and nothing since then comes close to the grandiose "epic"-ness that was on this album.

"I'm a king in a kingdom of suffering..." - most epic, depressing lyrics ever written.
