Ryan Adams - Stop Lyrics
I know a sickness
So ancient and cross
No crucifix
Could ever fix enough
In the basement of a church
There is a line
That must be walked
If you wanna make it stop
Then stop
I know a place
Where the future is denied
I know a hand
That twitches inside
For some of us the glass
But if the honey
Makes you sick
Honey, there is a line
That must be walked
If you wanna make it stop
Then stop
Stop
Slow down
You don't have to talk
Lie down
Breathe
Stop
Slow down
It's not your fault
Look around
There's so many of us
So many of us
You are not alone
Ever
Ever
Ever
Stop
Call in the backup and the backup comes
Nobody can help you if you won't
Inside your chest your heart is just hurt
Behind your eyes a need replaced a want
I know a sickness so ancient and cross
A crucifix can never fix enough
I know a past when the future is lost
I know a line that must be walked
There is a darkness and there is a light
And there is a choice.
For a balance to be made every night
A weakness must be found
If you want it to stop
Stop
Stop

4:03 my heart breaks everytime I hear this beautiful song.
What is he talking about
Drugs......he was on Drugs real bad, go look at some interviews from 2003-2005 he was off the deep end. Hes still a little fruity in interviews, that just him, but he was REAL FRUITY then. He has more talent than any SOB I have seen and he doesn't even have to try hard, and I am a 70's rocker type. I give him his cred !!
The chords in this song completely captures the feeling of despair . I truly hope he rises up over this difficult time and continues to write and sing again. Everyone deserves a second chance.
Is this about Drugs and Alcohol or child abuse
because all of my friends my whole life no matter where I go My friends were abused
F Them !
We Survived !

one of my all-time-favs by Ryan - it is so painfully beautiful, that it "cuts" right thru me.....always. I could listen to it for hours on repeat.
Also one the longest songs by him I think and so personal and true that I believe every word - although I never suffered from an alcohol addiction......
I've struggled with alcohol addiction my entire adult life. I can't hear this song without breaking into tears.
Simply the saddest and yet most beautiful song imaginable. The pain in his voice is all too real, you can feel the utter despair he was going through at that time, it comes across in ever single not, every single lyric. Its impossible to listen to this without feeling torn up inside. Stunningly heartbreaking and so moving
This song makes me happy.
The sound of a man rescuing himself from himself...beautiful.
Amazing quality video, Fantastic song!
i figured it was alcoholism, but i'm not sure. never heard anything quite like it though.
One of the saddest songs I've ever heard.
Beautiful and brilliant in every way
