Rush - The Weapon Lyrics
We've got nothing to fear...but fear itself?
Not pain, not failure, not fatal tragedy?
Not the faulty units in this mad machinery?
Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry?
We are sheltered under the gun
In the glory game on the power train
Thy kingdom's will be done
And the things that we fear are a weapon to be held against us...
He's not afraid of your judgment
He knows of horrors worse than your Hell
He's a little bit afraid of dying
But he's a lot more afraid of your lying
And the things that he fears are a weapon to be held against him...
Can any part of life be larger than life?
Even love must be limited by time
And those who push us down that they might climb
Is any killer worth more than his crime?
Like a steely blade in a silken sheath
We don't see what they're made of
They shout about love, but when push comes to shove
They live for the things they're afraid of
And the knowledge that they fear is a weapon to be used against them...

Can any part of life be larger than life? Even love must be limited by time.
Great song......
This song is so catchy and without Neil's help with his lyric and drumming, this band wouldn't be as good. Rest In Peace Neil Peart
One of my favorite recorded performances from Neil. Very different from most other Rush sonngs. RIP professor Peart.
Do you know who gave a thumbs down? A faert-face
To put a little more context into Neil Peart and sampling influence, there was a song on Signals, called The Weapon, where apparently he programmed it into an old drum machine then learned to play it. In his words he had to ‘bend his hands a certain way’” to do it. It’s an odd rhythm and exactly what I was thinking about when you were talking about those later (amazing) drummers. Then you started talking about Neil and his passing. So cool.
R.I.P. to the great Neil Peart. This was my favorite song on Signals, thanks to Neil’s great lyrics and his AMAZING drum part. Not the fastest, flashiest, or busiest drum part, but nevertheless one of the drum parts which is most difficult to play. (Just try to AIR DRUM to it! The accents fall in weird and unexpected places!). Neil himself said about this song: “If I play completely backwards, and move my hands in ways they don’t normally go, I can JUST do it.” When a drummer of Neil’s caliber says a song is hard to play, we mortals can assume it’s nearly IMPOSSIBLE to play!
RIP you beaut
Rest In Peace Neil 1/7/2020. You will be sorely missed......
heart broken right now
RIP, Neil Peart. XO <3
Neil Peart is gone! So is Lou Reed and David Bowie and Garry Shandling! And Trump lives. It's just not right.
Ha Ha get ready for another term in The White House bitch.
RIP Neil. I just had to come here. 5:13 now and forever
Blew roof off when i saw them playn this, los angeles.84..
At 4:54 it all comes alive.
You simply cannot top RUSH!!
Yes, crazy ass humans.
This is a special song, a very scary song, one of the scariest I’ve ever heard. Even the title scares me.!
First album I learned drums on !!!
2mins 50 ...sublime beautiful little tom/snare roll
love the gong bass drums on this tune. concert toms kicked ass too. this album kills, so powerful.
A very complex mind created that drum score 👌
Saw this song played live and I was pissing out of my balls.
The intro to this is definitely inspired by Visage - Fade To Grey
The high hat work in this song highlights Neil's serious acoustic skills. Without a great deal of studio production either.
and the knowledge that he fears is that his free shelter of words under the gun https://youtu.be/lmV4vGeoIXQ
Another adrenaline Rush love it
Try playing air drums to this song. I dare you.
i want to report a hi hat rape
This album changed my life and helped me through some dark times. true story.
last year, in october, I lost my job and believe me, it was really hard times. However, and thanks to Rush I had the courage to struggle with all the problems and finally got a nice job again. Real life stories!
My fav Rush album....
The percussion is epic here.
Timeless 👽
❤😎
........1982....….. ONE UNFORGETTABLE YEAR.........!!!!!!!!!!!!
The drums at the beginning :0
That fucking intro
Anyone not sensing the saber-ratling, the ominous thunder, the grovvling bear (a symbol of the USSR or just Russia), the ICBM vvhoosing by, and other assorted ghastly noises in the instrumental part of this song? Oh you should.
FEAR... explained... yes
oooohhhhh scary.....dig those drums.!!!!!!....look at that guy dancing... hes scary too.....play the weapon....oooohhhhhh…..great song.....
5:04 The sweet spot.
man, that drum groove tho!, nasty af
Perfect song for a drive on a sunny day.
uuummm… these 3 guys prove RIGHT HERE …. hands … feet and fingers.....are WEAPONS to be feared by all the musical crap that is out there.... this is 3 men at the Top of their game......GREAT SONG.....!!!
que música tão gostosa de se ouvir, aAaaaaaa, fascinada por Signals!
Morgana P. ❤
Neil's drumming starting at 1:56 is just amazing
Great album but I can see, especially on this song, why they parted ways with Terry Brown. 80's technology was moving very fast and they needed someone more capable. Compare the sound of this album to GUP.
Probably the greatest song of all time.
i think Geddy's voice really shines with this classic tune from the trio from Toronto
Part 2 of the "Fear" series.
Losing it rush classic.
WW3 coming to a town near you - Soon.
I love my Glock
I still have my signals tour shirt
a very underrated great song by Rush
Rush is in a category all by themselves.
Jesus. How are all of their songs so good!?
because they are real musicians...
Because Neil Peart incorporates the word of God in some form or another into the song.
RUSH...the mother of all bands...period!!!💪💪💪
When you think of it, a three man band, of all original guys, who write their own songs, and went through all 4 distinct musical ages (70s, 80s, grunge riddled 90s, the contemporary 2000's) and beyond shouldnt be viable today....But hey fuck it, its RUSH bitch....! Theyre quite a conundrum....and I sir, am glad...
Can any part of life be larger than life? Even love, must be limited by time... Epic...
The Knowledge...
1982 ! Classic !" ... and the thing that they fear ... are the weapon to be held against them ! " ...
Love this song, this song is one of their most under rated songs. The complexity of the musical arrangement is incredible, at times chaotic and then at time coming together as musicians. I love the accent work that Neil does in this as well and oh... who can forget those powerful deep lyrics that Neil also provided. I also love the background effects that they added, Rush is known for having multiple layers to their music. I guess what I'm trying to say is "wow."
Yes Mr.Kerner, these three canadian folks are three bombastic minds and the music sound like a mindblowing big orchestra. They are so unique...
remember crack Putan has a big card in southern Russian all former Russian states that border Iran

k,k tune
the kindoms that burn under the sun
this song as far back as I can remeber reminds me of the shah of iran...it was the year he was almost assinated
Neil Peart is not only the master of drums, he's also an amazing songwriter.
He died yesterday 67
3:26 the ethereal instrumental bridge, like so many other great late 70s/early 80s tracks
Can Rush be any more awesome? The answer is my most Nigel Tufnel "no.. .none more awesome". I thought this song was on GAP. I was 12 when this was new.
We've got nothing to fear but fear itself
Not pain, not failure, not fatal tragedy?
Not the faulty units in this mad machinery?
Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry?
With an iron fist in a velvet glove
We are sheltered under the gun
In the glory game on the power train
Thy kingdom's will be done

35 years later this song still sends a chill down my spine whenever I hear it.
Juan Rivera damn right! Still so good
Because it is literal!
@Terau Gene concur...rush best 3 man band ever
My favorite song on this album tied with signals.
oops, I mean subdivisions
Neil Peart Is My All Time Favorite Drummer!!!! :)
i always thought signals was a nice followup to moving pictures but was bit more cerebral. a very enjoyal album!
what does the image on the sleeve actually mean? Anyone any idea...
very deep haha!
That really is as deep as it goes!
It represents the mass-produced nature of American suburbia. The dog and the fire hydrant are two symbols of no individuality; every neighborhood has one. This is the thematic message of a lot of songs on the album, most notably "Subdivisions".
Or the dog is receiving a signal from the hydrant. That's viewing it with a Ray Bradbury or Gary Larson bent .....
That's it. It's a daft pun, same as the Moving Pictures cover.
my fav Rush song. And they have alot of amazing songs as you all know!
8 people are liberals
So is Neil Peart..... he drifted that way after he shook off his youthful ayn rand fetish ...... Or vomited it off, whichever you prefer...............
In one of his last full interview's before retirement, Peart, now a US citizen, described himself as a Dem voting, left -leaning, libertarian.
8 folks have no weapon license.
got tumers
if i ever get cancer im smokeing a digfat. j album's all time period vinyl it on
great song
I voted for Donald Trump and I have weapons. make America great again!!!!!! plus talk does not get the job done sometimes you got to take the law in your hands and kick some major ass and take out the garbage and drain the swamp. basically clean house. Obama is nothing but talk trump will get the job done like a real American president will.
never idolize a politician and expect them to save you from yourself...and that goes for any political alignment a person might have.
Chris Gentry he 🏆 amen
@Chris Gentry you are a very sad person
Chris you're an uneducated moron. Embarrassment to your country
i love this song, great rush!!!!!
😀😃😁😄His alot more afraid of your dieing!!!😀😃😁😄
Amerikas favorite form of destruction. For right or wrong, you be judge. Personally the destruction outweights the cure of wrongful action.
TRUMP"S new intro
Timothy Craig I voted for trump. make America great again.
America was great before that pos was elected and it'll still be great when we get rid of his rotten ass.
@Lonnie Cavenee With who? A liberal who will turn the U.S. into a tyrannical dictatorship?
@Johnny Hoffman like Dolt/45s buddies and their dictatorships. Get a cup of coffee and wake up.
We've got nothing to fear...but fear itself?
Not pain, not failure, not fatal tragedy?
Not the faulty units in this mad machinery?
Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry?

They shout about love but when push comes to shove they live for the things they're afraid of.

SJWs, summarized.
Best song on the album.
Too tough to decide
you're right there .... maybe the analog kid or this..... or digital man ..... :)
Denounce Rush Subdivisions
Subdivisions is simply too good
@Juan Luis Gálvez Ghiggo Losing It just rules!
Signals...if I hear ANY song off of it by accident, I have to go to it and listen, start to finish...And then of course, if it isn't by accident, I have to go to it and listen, start to finish!!!! :-) I accidentally starting singing the last words to "Losing It" this morning...and here I am at "The Weapon"!!!
In 2016 there is still RUSH and everyone else.
+Whats Up there is no Zool;there is only RUSH!
and what's left is not rush kick ass band best I ever saw in concert. Chicago 2015 still can't believe what I witnessed. there is no old age in talented musicians.rock on RUSH!
musicians

I love that ambient backing Synth part.
