Rush - The Analog Kid Lyrics
A hot and windy August afternoon
Has the trees in constant motion
With a flash of silver leaves
As they're rocking in the breeze
Stuck between his teeth
A vague sensation quickens
In his young and restless heart
And a bright and nameless vision
Has him longing to depart
[Chorus]
You move me
You move me
With your buildings and your eyes
You move me
You move me
Open sea and city lights
Busy streets and dizzy heights
You call me
You call me
The fawn-eyed girl with sun-browned legs
Dances on the edge of his dream
And her voice rings in his ears
Like the music of the spheres
The boy lies in the grass, unmoving
Staring at the sky
His mother starts to call him
As a hawk goes soaring by
The boy pulls down his baseball cap
And covers up his eyes
[Chorus]
Too many hands on my time
Too many feelings
Too many things on my mind
When I leave I don't know
What I'm hoping to find
When I leave I don't know
What I'm leaving behind...

Radio execs: New World Man (Which is awesome)... The rest of the world: Subdivisions, Analog Kid, Digital Man, Losing It, The Weapon, Countdown, Chemistry
You could take all the songs on Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures/Signals, interchange them around, and wouldn't change the album.
It paints a picture......we have been that boy....even as adults
Amen my friend.

I'm a bassist. But Alex Lifeson. overlooked underrated.
I mean this entire album to me, Rivals moving pictures big time. I hope they totally remaster this album for a reissue. Every song on here is just clean, and badass. Alex lifeson solo on this track kicks ass almost as good as his solo on Anthem
This is the Geddy Lee that had me believing there isnt a singer I like better. There were better singers, but not with the message to go along with this incredible music. You guys are the tunes I think about in my teen years learning to surf, hangin with friends, sitting in my room before bed with headphones on...shutting out the world. Thanks Rush!!
This moves me
guitar solo is great! remember this like it was yesterday, shit thats almost 40 years!
I will always have a deep emotional based connection with this song.
Alex's lead is awesome in this!
Good God ALMIGHTY ..........NO WORDS........MISS ALL THREE OF YOU SO MUCH ....my heart is So Heavy ....my eyes are Blurry.....Truly the soundtrack of so my life.
One of the last great Rush songs before the digital age sold out the band
La renga dejá de robar la Buena Música.

I am an analog kid. The Fawn-eyed girl indeed dances on the edge of my dreams. What a great lyric.
Best Rush solo next to red barchetta
I Like to Rock! needed this on Signals new rave...
3:27 MYHAND'SONFIREMYHAND'SONFIRE
If there was ever a band that came together like a great recipe it's these dudes . Meant to be together . The perfect marriage .
Best fucking drum track of rock n roll. Fucking Peart
If seen all their tours from moving pictures in 81 to time machine in 2010 that's a lot of concerts rush best band EVER !!!!!
Rush is one of those bands that people love or hate. Personally, I think the trio sets the standard for musicians. Each artist is a technical and creative giant. I don’t see this much creativity and technical expertise is a large portion of today’s bands. I miss Rush
The bright and nameless vision
"When I leave I don't know what I'm hoping to find, and when I leave I don't know what I'm leaving behind..."
One of my most remembered lines of any rock song. It really hits, to those of us who have moved around a little more than we thought we should have
This song reminds me of s woman I once knew, she captivated my heart and loved me and then just like that she left me and our precious son. She lives in the Big City life now and I always wonder what she is doing and if she will ever come back to us. I miss her. I love her still.
@David Winters
Why are you continuing loving someone who bailed on their own kid?
WTF is wrong with you?
I love this fast jam. Great rock song and great guitar riff.
One of the best tunes ever from Rush :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
When it comes to favorite songs by Rush, I have three categories that I rank them in:
Personal worth: Time Stand Still
Most unique: Red Barchetta
Best instrumental: The Analog Kid
Neil Peart's lyrics in this tune are so freakin' powerful!
All his lyrics are. One raises their IQ just by reading them.
This song has some of Neil's most swinging fills and beats...such a loose feel that is rare in his playing. I love the drum track on this...not his most flashy, but maybe his most rocking...?
Indeed, man. You nailed it
no matter the calendar, a man is 16 again listening to this track.
Dude, you aren't kidding. I was a Rush addict from 16-18. Took a break to party for a decade. Now sober, I recall the good times, before all of the drug induced years, admiring the talent of Rush, the undying
A bit older for me but..........yeah, damn right.
Put this album on and sit in a dark room with a candle lit. Stare at the tip of the flame with your eyes squinted. Eventually you will feel as if you're in a corridor. What happens from there is your mind taking over. (DO THIS HIGH ON YOUR CHOICE OF RECREATIONAL) May take some practice. Good luck and happy trippin.
Can't, I get paranoid claustrophobia.
Great song to run to!
A hot&windy August afternoon has the trees in constant motion~~and a flash of silver leaves as their rocking in breeze~~~ omg luv RUSH1983
The last great record by Rush!
Discrimination is not a right. Wow 87, i was since 1980, back years before they soldout like Metallica. Stop bothering me go listen to Justin Beeber, lol
Carbon 019 Really gay that record. They soldout like Metallica did after the black LP
@Ken Sturm I discovered their synth period first and liked it, and that's why I don't have the bias against it that you do. I like it a lot more than Geddy's shrieky-screechy period.
Discrimination is not a right. If you were a musican you'd understand. Pearts drumming was more technical pre GUP! FACT
@Ken Sturm If his drumming were the sum of their music you would have a point. Of a sort, that is; I've heard very technical players who sound like nothing more than a mechanism.
Reckon it's safe to say Neil was an old soul early on ..man, his lyrics are so.... melancholy.
I discovered Rush when Moving Pictures was released (about my senior year in high school) and have found the more I listen to their music, interviews, watch documentaries, etc. I'm convinced these guys are the best at the craft of music...simply put.
I know, whenever I'm just cruising the net and listening to YouTube in the background...gotta end it with a Rush song...or two
A fawn eyed girl WTH sun browned legs dances on the edge of his dreams...
What a great line along with that music.
I want metal cover. Or I should make it.
i was lucky enough to see them for the Boston R40 tour and i will always live on Rush time.. Rush Forever..
I saw them twice on the Signals tour, still have the tour program. This song was my favorite on that album from the start.
Baastaan Gaaaden! Great Show!!🎸🥁🎹🎙
La Villa Strangiato was my tune of choice when i took lff from London Heathrow Airport over 20 years ago now, to make my new life in the USA. Take off was perfect as Alex built in and the plane rotated nose upward toward the clouds, in seconds i was looking down at the ground where i once stood, and the strain came in, da da da d a da da da da da
Nice to hear Subdivisions at decent sound quality, beats the cassette tape I had when I was a teen!
42 people need TP for their bunghole and to also get smacked with tires to dislodge my rehab charges ( for smoking things other than tires.)
make that 66
Got to be one of the best sounding songs I have ever heard
Timeless.
Signals album is Rush at its best!
This band is so Canadian that Geddy Lee said Soary in the middle of a song
Funnny!
Favorite band since 1979.
Damn gramps
Whoever downed this is a fucking moron.... it's real music....not like the millennials bullshit....and the greatest band in our existing time...get a life assholes....
Best (Rush-)song ever! If I had to take only 1 song to a desert island...
Ahhh,my youth!!! A digital man,and the analog kid!!!!
Mine too. Never regretted it. I still remember back around 92 when I got my first DUI listening to hold your fire (or was it presto) all hammered and trying to get to an ex-girlfriend's house blowing red lights.
The millenniums would do well to study the lyrics of rush
half of 'em don't know real work ! (I sound like an old man) THAT ROCKS , seen them 8 times, cried at last concert cause I knew that was it but I was r'bhind soundboard, so they were far yet loud and clear for Clockworks:) just a tear or 2 haha (tears) used 2b wife's fave song when I was marrred for 13 yrs.
5 months later times 4
speak cat please!
@Dan Calestini
a farewell 2 things
Last great record
3.02-3.22. absolute perfection.
Absolutely.
Actually more like from 0:00 - 4:47, right?
this little Geddy section is just genius. 0.43-57
RUSH Move,s me..... Frank misssssschief .....THANK YOU...
You move me ! You move me !!!!!!
19 moorons, yes I said moorons voted this hands down. What's wrong with you folks? Awesome song from an awesome album.
Exit stage left
One of the best albums and cover/title .... ever.
The Weapon, imagine that day. Hey guys I wrote a song. Oh Yeah? What's it called? "oh...the weapon"
LOVE THESE MEN. Trying to spread their genius to the youth today.
But it's sad the youth of today will never listen. For their ears are full of wax,and their mouths full of gravel. For they cannot hear nor discern,or speak of any intelect
@Wasted Talent What are you talking about, plenty of youths listen to Rush.
I am a youth, and Styx, Triumph and Rush are my top 3 favorite bands! I pretty much mainly listen to classic rock. inspires me so much
cyberprompt I have received their genius 😉 I’m 18
This solo is better than eruption. :V I’m serious
Monadnock 8418
I saw RUSH 11 times
@Monadnock 8418 .. I clearly remember back when I first heard this on a cassette in work, as a young budding gun-slinger, and I almost quit. I had t'keep replaying it. t'Me it didn't sound like anything Alex had done up to then. I'd worked out all his Rush / Fly by night / Permanent waves stuff up to then, and knew from 'Freewill' He could really hit the gas when He wanted to. But this..
His approach was somehow different. His guitar-entry growled; it f*cking Growled, like a ferral Animal,.. followed by that almost air-raid-siren warning whammy-pull.. then those four-bars of what sounded like unrelenting high-velocity hailstones. I was floored.
Now as a recording / performing Adult (like most of you Guitarists here ! 🤟🏻) I imagine He must've been soo pump'd after He'd listened back having captured this solo-take.
Alex is one of the finest composers and Guitarists to have ever walked on Earth.
Not to overlook that bass God Geddy absolutely GOES OFF on the verses of this one.
Monadnock 8418
I love Rush with an undying passion but..... no, no it’s not - srsly
@Tim Grov 22 for me
This is among my favorite guitar solos of all time.
Nice to hear so many of you finally have discovered RUSH!! Awesome band, my fav!!!!
Hey Ray-Ray where you from that's my nick name I'm 55 yrs old I was raised in Chicago I now live in Laredo , Texas ! Great name !
@Reginaldo Hernendez Lol some call me that, one of the nicer names I've been called...62 from SWOhio, seen Rush 7 or 8 times!!
@Rayray Rayray I was lucky enough to have seen them 13 times Rock on Bro !!!
@Rayray Rayray Dicovered Rush in '78 loved everything up to this album. Waited and waited for them to come to Sydney but they sadly never did.
The cool crowd would never understand this song. Us nerds would.
I'm an emotional Nerd!! I love the Chorus of this song. Geddy getting that synth to do an almost "melancoly but driving" sound. Great stuff from a band who defied all of the odds against them. I think Permanent Waves was there they broke though on radio.
Yeah, this song pretty much encapsulates my childhood.
We ARE the cool crowd. This music, no one understands anymore. These guys meant something to me, just as a little kid in 1982.
Not nerds... thinking man's band!!!! My favorite! Best RUSH song no one knows about!!
I KNOW......I KNOW.....I Know......I do
Listen to Losing it from this album
Absolutely great tune
The writer stares with empty eyes
Defies the empty page
His beard is white, his face is lined
And streaked with tears of rage
Thirty years ago
How the words would flow
With passion and precision
But now his mind is dark and dulled
With sickness and in-de-cis-iiooonnn
Edit to add: the older I get, the more I appreciate "I Think I'm Going Bald" and "Lakeside Park". Both off of Caress of Steel.
Like Neil this last tour, aye ??? it was kinda sad at the concert when thje gravity of the situ w'his hand/wrist as a drummer mysellf who had to toss the sticks crying iin back jpain n my situ'
Yes. One of Pearts better "poems"
So sad. Makes me teary.
BEAUTIFUL
Signals is the peak of many peaks.
My favorite Rush album.
I'm just starting to discover the Rush catalog and after deciding 'La Villa Strangiatto' is the 'Discovery of the Year 2018' i already made my mind that this is the discovery of 2019 \M/
A masterpiece!! 💕💕💖
It was excellent headphone tripppin' in the woods material !!!!
So happy for all of you frrsh disciples of the Almighty RUSH!
Got to be "The Pass" Bro...
You're gonna be very busy ... enjoy.
"And the boy pulls down his baseball cap and covers up his eyes!" Awesome.
Rick Bell
I had heard once that Geddy could have been or had some talent as a pitcher,MLB caliber
And why on back album cover of signals I believe listed him as pitcher.....you gotta do some research on this......:and Randy Johnson, the big unit, is friends with the group and when he retired from MLB shot the group always when live in concert(camera)
The best, The best , The best
Crypto Gains ... they were the best until Terry Brown left... he was the mastermind behind the music... Peart wrote the beat lyrics and the best drummer ever... Getty was and is the beat bassist an keyboard player and the guitarist was in the top 10.. but after Terry Brown left the music kinda went down hill..
@Wasted Talent Cool comment but as a Drummer Peart is NOT the best........Great Influence
Crypto Gains wow I would like to hear who u think is the best drummer..please do tell
@Wasted Talent Neil Peart may be my favorite drummer, but to say he's the best?
Does anyone go to artists pages to hear their music? I mean 403 views is disgusting! This album came out my junior year in high school. So many memories.
This isn't the artist's page. It's an auto generated video from YouTube. All "Topic" videos are like this. I feel like you're feigning outrage. There is a video with over 100k views, and another over 200k views of this song.
I changed my mind... THIS is the best song every written!
Abram van der Fluit listen to Cygnus X1 Book 2, or 2112
Alexander Waters ......Yes!!!!!!! Although to me, this is when the band started to change and was last album I bought of theirs, I still to this day love the album and one of my very favorites.....all the songs are awesome from subdivisions to countdown
Cygnus 1 off farewell to kings and Cygnus 2 off Hemispheres......incredible ,I mean what more can you say about them?!?!
Saw A video or heard interview where Geddy said Hemisphere's was most complicated album they ever did and all vowed to never do anything again as difficult ,complex or intricate as it was, I believe he said they attempted to do La Villa in one part/recording,tried like twenty times and finally stopped and broke it up into 4 parts in the studio and recorded it.
Incredible band and can't say enough about all there music from the very beginning with a different drummer on first album, all the way to Signals, and truly wish I could enjoy the music after Subdivisions.
I don't think any one,any band, any time, in any era, will ever come close to what these guys contributed to music in the band Rush!!!!!!!
Abram van der Fluit ...u didn't have to change my mind.. the first time I heard it I knew it was the best song ever.. the weapon is a close second....check it out.
