Runrig - Chì Mi'n Geamhradh Lyrics

Chi mi'n geamhradh anns a' ghaoith
Chaneil an sneachd' fada bhuainn
Sgothan dorch' 's na craobhan ruisgt
Tha an oidhche nochd fuar

Shaoilean fhein gur ann an de
Bha teas an t-samhraidh 'gar leaghadh
Fad an fheasgair air an Dun
'S tu laighe leisg ri mo thaobh

'S iomadh oidhch' a rinn sinn suiridhe
'S iomadh oidhch' a rinn sinn gair
'S ionadh oidhch' a bhithinn a'smuaintinn
Gum bitheadh tu comhla ruim gu brath

Chan fhan a' ghrian fad na bliadhna
Cha sheas an uair mar a tha i
Dh'fhalbh thusa gu'n a'cheo
'S dh'fhag thu mi le mo geamhradh

'S iomadh oidhch' a rinn sinn suiridhe
'S iomadh oidhch' a rinn sinn gair
'S ionadh oidhch' a bhithinn a'smuaintinn
Gum bitheadh tu comhla ruim gu brath
Gum bitheadh tu comhla ruim gu brath
Gum bitheadh tu comhla ruim gu brath

    Chi Mi'n Geamhradh
    (I See The Winter)
I see the winter in the wind
The snow is not far from us
Dark clouds and the trees losing leaf
    The night is cold

So often it feels that it was only yesterday
    The summer heat melted us
All evening long out on the Dun
And you lying lazy by my side

    Many nights we loved
    Many nights we laughed
    Many times I thought
That you would have stayed forever

But the sun never shines all year
Time will not stay as it once was
    You left for the city
    Leaving me to my winter

    Many nights we loved
    Many nights we laughed
    Many times I thought
That you would have stayed forever.

I see the winter in the wind
The snow is not far from us
Dark clouds and the trees losing leaf
    The night is cold
    The night is cold
    The night is cold

btw, thank you so much for the enchanting images you put to accompany this song. They are the loveliest I've seen on youtube, and whenever the news media is stressing/depressing me, I come here for escape and solace. I'm grateful to you.

  12. B.... ....

Just adding that the singer if DONNIE MUNRO, former lead singer of Runrig. He left the group to focus on Scottish politics. The group is now ending their decades long musical career at the end of this year. Last concerts all sold out . . . but there will be recordings to be had for posterity. For me, as much as I love Runrig . . . they have not been quite the same without Donnie as their voice.

Интересно о чём поётся. Очень красиво

If you knew how much more loving I am than any previous savior, you'd realize their religion will never matter as anything other than relative infinite hate again. There was only one point that Jesus got right: only he mattered. They - Christians - finally knew better, and encapsulated back into pure evil infinitely deliberately as what they won't admit pure hate is. It only means evil king.

I'm leaving for the mainland, too many years of my personal winter. Hoping to finally find a warm lass.

  20. C.... ....

Sorry for not replying, yes @Horst Ulrich Berning is right, it was taken from the album "Once in a Lifetime" released in 1988.

    C.... ....

    +CarminaBarritus   ... it's a beautiful and haunting song. I love it.

    C.... ....

Hi, although this beautiful song was recorded by runrig i think it fits perfectly to donnie munro. Nevertheless a wondelful interpretation by malcolm jones, who makes it a highlight for me cause of his wonderful guitarwork. Just been impressed by the "The last dance" at Stirling . May the legacy lives on.

  21. C.... L....

From what Album is THIS special version?? It sounds as if it was a life recording..can someone PLEASE tell me where I can find THIS version of the song on CD?????

It's mesmerising , like a calling to return to what once was... for me it's being homesick ; it's time to venture back... tha mi an dòchas.

As several others have said, it is someone singing about a love that has gone, left him for the city, he is alone, remembering how they loved and laughed in the heat of the summer and the winter is cold.

  24. M.... M....

    Amazing and beautiful song.

  25. m.... ....

@Kellie McDonald You are so welcome!   This song blows me away.

  31. c.... ....

I had no idea what this man was singing about for the longest time; i thought that he was missing someone that he loved--like she was ripping his heart out--then i find out it is "Icy Winter".. then, finally, "I see winter." it is beautiful, and by seeing the lyrics someone posted below, i see that i was right from the first--lol.

  32. B.... ....

THANK YOU for posting this!  Been looking for it for awhile.

Winter is coming!  :-)  THIS is my fav ever song by my fav ever Scottish singer. I probably listen to this, just to hear his voice, every day.  I don't know what the words mean, and I've resisted finding a translation for the past 20+ years for fear the song might be about a runaway cow and no milk! :) The tune has always seemed to me to be about "yearning" -- for a place, a time, a person, or a dream. Or all of those together. * All I know is the tune, Donnie's incomparable voice, and Scots Gaelic combined take me someplace magical. And yearning for the highlands, which I've only visited once in a lifetime.

*(And boy was I right! I finally got up the courage to find the translation.  Yes, it's about ALL THREE yearnings. How often does a song embody that so perfectly without knowing the language?)

  33. B.... K....

YES!!! This is my all time fav song by my all-time fav singer. Thank you for posting it. I don't know what the words mean either -- except that they seem to be about "yearning", for a place, a time, a person, or a dream.  I've resisted finding a translation for the past 10+ years, for fear the song might be about a runaway cow and no milk! :)  I just love listening to Donnie's incomparable voice and the music of Gaelic language.

Tapadh leat CarminaBarritus! Is toigh leam! Deagh-bheus, slàinte, saoidhreas, sonas agus gun robh dion air t-ionmhas mo caraid! (y)

  35. C.... ....

Thanks for your translation. The words "But the sun never shines all year, time will not stay as it once was" would resonate with many people and the feelings of the song certainly do transcend the language of the lyrics.

  36. J.... P....

I like Runrig best when they sing in Gaidhlig, I do learn a lot from it. Anyway a Gaelic speaking gael is 1000 times better than one with no Gaelic, in my own opinion. Pity that 100 years ago it was spoken throughout the Higlands and now it is chased to the Eileanan Siar...

  37. a.... ....

    remarkable, breath taking images.

  38. C.... ....

Well @MikeCBS1 you break up with an EX when you add it to a IT, and leave is sometimes the best thing to do when IT isn't going to lead anywhere. haha
    Thanks for all the comments

  39. M.... ....

Pretty much sums up my break up with my ex. Beautiful song, but very sad if you look up the translation.

  40. R.... ....

@huzhuiwei Yes, but Karen Matherson sang this on flower of the west cd single

@hardyluebbecke AAAH! Karen Matheson, the lead singer from Capercaillie. Thanks for that.

  44. P.... ....

@CarminaBarritus If this is your favorite gaelic song, as it is mine, there is a far superior version on the rare cd2 of 'long distance' featuring an unnamed female vocalist. Have trawled the net to put a name to the voice but no luck.

Anyone put me out my misery?

  45. n.... b....

Love this song! My favourite Runrig song! And the pics....what can I say, they are fantastic! Makes me feel home sick

  46. h.... ....

Great pictures. Very sharp and clear. Of course deagh òran cuideachd!

  47. S.... D....

I LOVE this song so much. What a pity! I don't understand Gaelic...

  48. C.... ....

    Glè mhath cuideachd, tapadh leat

  49. C.... ....

This is one of my favourite Gaelic songs, it is both reflective and mournful. Although I don't understand the words, the title "I See Winter" conveys an image of a man looking back upon times past ..
