Runrig - Abhainn An T-Sluaigh Lyrics

Chaneil an t-adhar os cionn Lunnainn a nochd soileir no dorch
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh
Gun sgial air coinneal mor latha no reultan na h-oidhche
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh
An sea s'am baile gun chadal gun fhois is gun saorsa
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh

Casan a' gluasad an abhainn an tuil
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh
Na cuibhlichean's cabhaig a tionndaidh gun sgur
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh
Cus ag adhradh beairteas air altair an tshaoghail
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh
Cach gun dochas gun dachaidh air sraidean gun ghaol
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh
Leis gach dath s'gach creideamh gach cainnt as gach cearn
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh
Gach ceist is gach freagairt sios an abhainn gu cuan
Fada bho abhainn an t-sluaigh...

I always loved this song as a kid, as it reminded me of hiking on the Isle of Skye. Shame the lyrics have absolutely nothing to do with hiking or Skye :(

This song is relaxing and emotional and it left a mark on my heart when i first went to a day tour to the isle of skye (gaelic) and other parts of highalnds. Very rich history. I really want to leave london and live there for good.

  28. t.... d....

A beautiful song & very relaxing to listen to.

  29. S.... A....

I think I fell in love with Rory when I first heard this song, but is that not Donnie Munro's magnificent voice coming in 3:41? And the seabird's call at 4:11 is what makes this song so perfect.

    S.... A....

    Yes it is 😀

    S.... A....

Malcolm makes the seagull sound on his guitar, isn't it gorgeous?

  30. t.... ....

    I love you Alison.

  31. N.... H....

    Love this song♡

  32. b.... s....

don't understand gaelic but it's a bostin tune

    b.... s....

The lyrics are about the River Thames in London. In English the title is "the crowded river".

  33. G.... H....

Never forgave Donnie Munro for buggering this band up in 1997

    G.... H....

The strength and power of the band is in their awesome songs and great melody, the McDonald brothers Rory and Calum are the writers, and musicians behind all their amazing work. They are both singing here with Donnie on harmony. Donnie has a beautiful voice for sure, but he was just a good frontman, nothing higher. Since Donnie left, they have written some of their best work ever, for sure, more mature, deeper, profound, and spiritual at times. Try listening to the music properly, the whole piece including word translations of the Gaelic, rather than just focusing on the front mans voice. That is pretty shallow and superficial.

    G.... H....

Apparently he is coming back for one last go.

    G.... H....

Donnie fucked off , end of story

    G.... H....

Never forgave Donnie Munro for joining the Labour Party. Howling in Gaelic about the sell-out of Scotland and her people, and joining Labour. Where is he now ?! What a w***er, in the end. Despite his phantastic voice; a wank. Dancing with an English cow on the streets, then shagging her and pretending to be a true Scot ?! True, my -- sorry -- arse. I love his voice, but his political orientation bugs me. Never get too big for yer boots. Or ye'll end up deid in the watter..

    G.... H....

I have to agree with that Bruce's voice can't compare with Donnie's

  34. S.... ....

jep me too, it just sound great

  35. v.... ....

    @dstudie1 Thanks :)

    xxx

  36. H.... ....

    @SavageNiecie

Tha an oran breagha mar alba !!
a'bheil thu fluenta anns an gaidhlig??

  37. d.... ....

@vanutra The song is about London, the hustle and bustle of the city, the greed of the wealthy, the sorrow of the poor on the streets with no love, and the need to be far from the crowded river.

  38. C.... ....

  39. v.... ....

I hvae no idea what he's saying but it's beautiful :)

    v.... ....

vanutra far from the river. X

...niezwykła muza, klimat tajemny jak echo marzeń ,wszystkich tych co odeszli,a mieli odwagę...(:słów nie rozumiem i nie wiem czy czy chcę wiedzieć,za co przepraszam:)

one of my favourite Runrig songs, EVER!

  42. m.... ....

This is NOT Donnie Munro singing..... We are here blessed with Rory MacDonald's very beautiful voice.

    m.... ....

Also Donnie is singing some words here in this magnificent song

  43. m.... ....

Actually, it isn't Donnie Munro singing here... It's Rory MacDonald's beautiful voice we're hearing.

    m.... ....

Donnie is singing harmony to Rory on lead.

  44. P.... C....

    Oh.....Donnie Munro!!!!

  45. R.... M....

Far from blasting you, I am going to agree. Rory has worked so hard for so long for this band, and yet the lead singer, be he Donny or Bruce, gets all the credit.
Good on him, and I hope he stays with them until the very end because the band wouldn't be the same without him.

  46. S.... ....

Okay, I'm probably gonna get blasted for this, but with all the fuss about Donnie vs. Bruce, has no one but little me noticed that Rory has a beautiful voice, too? (This IS Rory, right???)

Gorgeous--thank you for posting one of my fave Runrig songs.

    S.... ....

Would guess it's Donald. Not sure. But who can beat this amazing baritone of Mr Donnie Munro ? Bruce Guthrow doesn't even come near it, sorry to say.

  47. k.... ....

A bheil Gàidhlig agad? Do you speak Gaelic? If you did, you'd know that it is about London.

Chan eil an t-adhar os cionn Lunnainn

    The skies above London
    Are neither clear nor dark
The need to be far from the crowded river

  48. R.... M....

I love this song, it's so nice and relaxing... Thanks for posting it!!!

  49. T.... M....

Sehr schöne Musik, war 1996 auf einem Konzert von Runrig, werde es nie vergessen!!!
