Run DMC - Take The Money And Run Lyrics

[Run]
Let me tell you about what I love with Gina
Lover like no other couldn't get in between her
Always stayed fly man, I'm wishing to seen her
Said they had a scheme, but nobody believed her
No real job cause she stay in the street
Gina didn't nail but the love made beats
When they want to eat, they just walked in the store
They took what they wanted man they the illest you saw
So one day they went uptown and seen em' with ice
Butter liked to change and Gina said they're breaking ice
Next thing you know they wan to pull of the heights
Shook to the look and shoot the tulip twice
Down with old Sherman as they flew in the air
Butter acting rough and Ram was struck by the pair
Gina had the door cause she goofed with the gun
They both grabbed the money and run

[Chorus]
Come on take the money and run (run)
Come on take the money and run, hey hey hey
Come on take the money and run
Come on take the money and run, hey hey hey

Smoothie was a rookie that was doing a scene
Used to be a dog, now he's doing it clean
Ironic he was cupping and they gave him the spot
Now Butter buffing Hollis used to chill in the park
Said run around they way with a brand new band
Gina looking pretty in the city of frame
Smoothie said y'all got to get these in
And these are the two I've got to act enhanced
And these were from Hollis promised not to tell
And leave these cocks from a long, long trail
Smoothie saw Gina and a chick turned pale
Ronnie saying something like she know got bailed
Butter said promise me I won't see jail
Smoothie won a watch in a brand new cell
Butter and Gina moved to Pepsi cola
Smoothie got a rollie and I'm on the roller

[Chorus]
Come on take the money and run (run)
Come on take the money and run, hey hey hey
Come on take the money and run, that's what I say
Come on take the money and run, yeah yeah yeah

All I can say is about the story
And living like Butter love is not floury
Let me show you how we get the money legit
Jack B. Nimble was nimble and he was quick
Well Run-DMC is the kings of rock
Rolled to the top and then we never get dropped
You still have us chilling in 2001
And me and D will take the money and run

[Chorus]
Come on take the money and run (run)
Come on take the money and run, hey hey hey
Come on take the money and run, that's what I say
Come on take the money and run, hey hey hey
Come on take the money and run, that's what I say
Come on take the money and run, yeah yeah yeah
Come on take the money and run, aha
Come on take the money and run, hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
That's what I say

  5. d.... n....

the old school rap was the shit. even though they were samples in most cases it reintroduced us to songs we already knew in a completely different way. RUNDMC put out some awesome stuff

  6. I.... L....

I love this in the film 51st State!

    I.... L....

That movies rocks. Humor is good and contrast of US and UK people only adds up to that. It also has great characters.

I was disappointed in how this song came out keep it 100. I wanted Run and D to go back to back but DMC did not participate at all. I then wanted Everlast to do the same with Run but Run wasnt with it. I thought the chorus and track were on point the verses were to me lacking. It was my dream to work with Run Dmc unfourtently I only worked with Run and Jam Master Jay who did the cuts and hung out with me for 2 days. He was rad, an old friend and a good dude. That was the best part about the experience to keep it 100.

but seriously, nice little read (and the 2 comments above). Its great to have the context and history.

Ficou massa essa versão para o classico do Steve Miller Band

  11. D.... R....

Just so you know we replayed the sample all of it is replayed including the singing I even reprogramed the drums instead of sampling them. Steve Miller swore we sampled his song and gave us a really hard time about it. We had to send him the session so he and his legal team could see we did not sample his song. He then relented and let Run-DMC use the song on the album.

@Dante Ross Props! This is my favorite song on the LP. I wished that this was the lead single with a video back when the album first came out. I read that a lot of labels fronted on clearing the guest acts. Was Tommy Boy okay with Everlast being on the song?

    D.... R....

How did you handle the publishing clearance side?

    D.... R....

We gave him 100 pct of the music side of the publishing and 33 pct of the vocal side.

    D.... R....

@Dante Ross Not bad deal at all for both. So did you produce it? Ever thought about updating it?

  12. D.... R....

I produced this record and those days in the studio were the last times I ever spent with Jay. He was my friend from the age of 17. I use to play Basket Ball with him when we were young men he was already famous, He was an excellent dude, charismatic and funny as ish. I will always remember making this song for giving me those last few days of hang time with Jay. God works in mysterious ways. Rest In Power Jayson miss you big homie

    D.... R....

Damn dude, small word. Got any other cool memories with him? We would love to hear them.

    D.... R....

  13. M.... ....

For once I have found a sample I like, one where the original instrumental has not been tampered with. I was gladly able to sing the original 'Take The Money And Run' by Steve Miller Band to this without any difficulty.

I respect you DMC, Steve Miller surely is proud of this version :)
