Ross, Diana - Touch Me In The Morning Lyrics

Touch me in the morning
Then just walk away
We don't have tomorrow
But we had yesterday
Hey, wasn't it me who said
That nothin' good's gonna last forever
And wasn't it me who said
Let's just be glad for the time together
Must've been hard to tell me
That you've given all you had to give
I can understand your feelin' that way
Ev'rybody's got their life to live

Well, I can say goodbye
In the cold morning light
But I can't watch love die
In the warmth of the night
If I've got to be strong
don't you know I need to have tonight
When you're gone, till you go
I need to lie here and
Think about the last time
You'll touch me in the morning
Then just close the door
Leave me as you found me
Empty like before

Hey, wasn't it yesterday
We used to laugh at the wind behind us
Didn't we run away and hope
That time wouldn't try to find us
Didn't we take each other
To a place where no one's ever been
Yeah I realy need you near me tonight
'Cause you'll never take me there again
Let me watch you go with the sun in my eyes

We've seen how love can grow
Now we'll see how it dies
If I've got to be strong
Don't you know I need to have tonight
When you're gone, till you go
I need to hold you until the tie
Your hands reach out and

Touch me in the morning
Then just walk away
We don't have tomorrow
But we had yesterday
We're blue and gold
and we could feel one another living
We walked with a dream to hold
And we could take what the world was giving
There's no tomorrow here
There's only love and the time to chase it
Yesterday's gone my love
There's only now and it's time to face it

Ross, Diana Touch Me In The Morning Comments
  1. D.... H....

Wow haven't heard that song in over a decade. I still relax to it.

  3. p.... ....

Timeless, Extraordinary, Her voice is so beautiful, she still sound the same, Thanks for posting this song.,

  4. E.... ....

How is this a #1 single? One of the lamest records Diana Ross released in the 70's. It's basically a rehash of Angel Of The Morning without the edge.

  5. A.... ....

I remember hearing this in our green 1973 Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park station wagon ... 20 feet long with simulated wood paneling and a 429 cubic inch engine. What a beast.

  6. R.... T....

Sad that few really pay attention to the studio musicians who made these songs the iconic masterpieces that they are. The Babbitt on bass.

  7. F.... O....

I have heard the criticisms & critiques of this lovely & true song. I must throw in with the crowd of you-tube kids who views this piece as a poignant representation of human emotions. Love is the greatest emotion we may experience; love is the most painful emotion we can experience...

  8. Q.... J....

I was sent here by my dictionary when I looked up 'pure'

  9. R.... D....

Now here is a song that tells everything you would feel at the time love is about to be over, Diana sings it with such emotions that its hard not to feel the pain in the words.
It brings back memories of my past relationships I lost..

  10. b.... ....

Uno dei ritornelli più sensuali e più belli della storia della musica di tutti i tempi da 2.55 a 3.20. Brano straordinario ...

this is a beautiful song but it brings back very hurtful memories every time I hear this.

  33. R.... L....

I read that Diana had such trouble with this song, that's it's a cut and paste job from several recording sessions.

  46. n.... n....

    Beautiful song .............

  47. T.... K....

What a beautiful song and Diana sang he heck out of it..

  48. P.... V....

i turned 14 august 73, this was number 1 , and i was obsessed with how much i loved this song. 7 weeks number 1 on my top 50 list; which i typed ever friday! felt like i had the emotions of a girl for liking it so intensely, but oh well! that's me.

  49. K.... H....

This is a classic.  It only happens when song, artist, producer and musicians are perfectly in sync, as they obviously were on the day of this recording.  This one stands the test of time.

    K.... H....

One of the best written songs of all time, that chord Change from the first verse to the second verse is unbelievable to this day, i saw her sing this live in Atlanta in the late 70s it was spectacular.

  50. B.... ....

    ☔☔☔

  51. E.... V....

  52. S.... B....

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG,I LOVED IT THEN AND I LOVE IT NOW. 👑

  53. T.... ....

    Rest in peace, Michael Masser.
Your beautiful music will never be forgotten.:)

  54. J.... 7....

    Another 70's classic.

  55. .... ....

..για  ολους μας πια...που δεν εχουμε ΜΕΛΛΟΝ...αλλα εχουμε ΠΑΡΕΛΘΟΝ...σ ολα μας πια...

  56. K.... T....

I think this might be my favourite song to listen to whilst wallowing in self-pity about girls I never completely got over--- like I'm doing right now.  :-)

  57. R.... J....

So sad to hear about the passing of legendary songwriter and producer Michael Masser. He contributed so many incredible songs to the Diana Ross song book. "To this day, the template Ross forged with Michael Masser has remained unique, and influential to new generations of balladeers, But more importantly, the music itself has lost none of its honesty, warmth and romance." - Brian Chin (2003 "To Love Again -

  58. L.... G....

    J.... H....

+vivi mazz my little sister alex died in 1992 and also loved this song. sorry for your loss.

    J.... H....

Those of us who have family that we cherish and have such happy memories of are really and truly blessed! And when you lose them, that makes those memories all the more precious.

    J.... H....

+Jan Hots Yes!  And if you like EJ, then listen to his, "Empty Garden". His lament to John Lennon. Enjoy the heartache!

  68. J.... C....

One of my most favorite songs by Diana Ross!  Brings so many memories back to me from the year 1973 and of fun times with my friend Kathy Long.  She's gone now but she was a childhood friend I could never forget.

  69. M.... D....

Diana Ross truly makes masterpieces every time she sings, not to mention the instrumentals in each of her songs are flawless for creating a great mood and atmosphere and they are timed perfectly to fit the songs pace, I never get tired of
listening to Diana Ross and her soothing voice.

  70. J.... M....

This song is beautiful.  It is about the end of a love affair.  It is something we all go through.  And we recall as she says "did we not take us to a place where no one has ever been".  That is catchy and good. Everytime it is different because the person we are we is.

  71. t.... j....

this song..as in so nice i really love to sing it....

  72. b.... e....

    Undeniable classic.

    T.... D....

Could it be INTO THE NIGHT by Benny Mardones. Granted, it was 1980 but it had the feel of a song written much earlier.

    T.... D....

+Tracey Duffy Are you thinking of Give me the night by George Benson?

isn't that SERGIO MENDEZ and BRAZIL 66

  90. a.... m....

I always cherish my childhood for despite all the depravity visited upon by racial segregation my father provided us with a transistor radio receiver from whence I could listen to great songs like this one. How I could mimic and put my own doodled words to the melody with glee and blessedness? Thank you for this great song.

  91. C.... E....

"Touch Me in the Morning" to me epitomizes the "mature" post-Supremes Diana Ross, before her early '80s disco resurgence.  Her early-mid '70s period doesn't get much airplay these days, which is sad, because songs like this, "Last Time I Saw Him" and "Theme From Mahogany" were some of her best vocal performances ever.

excellent song ,but dont touch me in the morning im like a bear with a sore head, but evenings fine :)

  93. h.... e....

Thank you Michael Masser for your creative song writings. Diana, you are simply heavenly.

  94. H.... I....

Another beautiful Motown piece remixed for the purposes of the Loudness War. This destroyed it's original dynamics. Listen to the original issue, and you'll hear how much better it sounds.

  95. y.... w....

Last time I remember hearing t was sitting in the car in a parking lot in Elkhart, Indiana.

It was so beautiful to me, and made me very happy.

  96. y.... w....
