Ross, Diana - Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To) Lyrics
Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open door
What are you hoping for
Do you know
Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies
That filled our minds
You knew how I loved you
Laughin' at the questions
That you once asked of me
Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know
Now looking back at all we've planned
We let so many dreams
Just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long
Before we'll see
How sad the answers
To those questions can be
Do you know where you're going to
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to
Do you know
Do you get
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open door
What are you hoping for
Do you know

May he R.I.P.
Love this song...so much..😊😘
I grew up on this music back in the late 60's-70's thats when music was innocent
The hook to this beautiful song is the hook that Slick Rick sings at the end of Teenage Love.
What a passionate song sung beautifully by Diana Ross, a commensurate, talent vocalist! She sings it with such energy and conviction.
Do you know where you going to Diane Rosd
Jody's Hell...
Big Sean anyone?
Just imagine going to war and killing when this song was on... kinda creepy
Do I ever agree with the comment below about how fantastic the music of the 70’s is. I would add music of the 60’s and 80’s also. The songs composed in those years were passionate, had a message. One could understand every word the performer sang! Not so today, unfortunately!!
What a beautiful and thought provoking song sung by a commensurate singer. The melody is just mesmerizing! Thank you for the download.
ILove this song 😍
Such a beautiful song. I wish they still made music like this.
great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love for my children to try and sing this song for me, shoot, Ms. Ross too!! I love it!!
Great Song. Boy does it stir a mighty melancholy in me. They don't make em like this anymore.

Fez sucesso no Brasil em 1976 e também foi tema da inesquecível Babá Nice personagem da Suzana Vieira na 1 versão da novela Anjo Mau da Globo
Well deserved Life time Achievement Award/
The best song
Nice tune Ms Ross they sure do not make them like this no more.
Me too love this song
Pretty Little Liars :')
Beautiful and uniquely haunting words and melody - a mysterious and eclectic nursery rhyme winding down in musical clockwork - it seems to touch upon the greatest (and maybe the most disturbing) mysteries of the human condition.
To me it also evokes child images - of some institution - of drugs and confinement - of the "help" being offered to some sensitive mentally ill child who will remain in a state of heavy control for a l very long time - until all of his sensitivity is gone - this being the accepted treatment of the golden child who was held up as being so special - the potential savior of mankind!
if you have never seen this movie
rent it
Billy Dee Williams was the denziel Washington of his day....diana Ross was still Diana Ross ...

Sure do! I'm going to Hell in a bucket. That's what I wanted. That's what I got. It's been an adventure for sure! I hope I'm made into plant fertilizer for home flower gardens. That's what I wanna be. That is my final wish.
Just wanted to say Life is showing me Crap now. Thanks♥
Those pushing thumbs down don't know where they're going to. Quite sad! I'm hitting 41 this year and this song still resonates.
Sadly alot of people have to hit thumbs down on songs they like or the morons of youtube keep popping the same song in your "Up next" list.
You know, the words of this song. Have so much meaning for me. As of right now, I feel so lost. Getting older and looking forward while looking back is a trip.
Lets' clarify the difference between Diana Ross, a legend with Mary Wilson, ex-friend and old acquaintance: Diana Ross (for the most part—the most her generation would allow) was poised and dignified as she maneuvered her passage thru her career. Within the scope of her youth, she escaped a rapid descent into oblivion as so many eager similarly talented female singers did in Rock and Roll's infancy. Yes, she was at the right place at exactly the right time. She could've been anywhere in the country! The few singers that made it big--and then were able to be respected enough to receive support after the fandom wore off--are the ones (like Aretha, Dionne, Gladys, Tina, and Diana Ross) that (are still alive for one!) ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST. Did those ladies I just mentioned handle themselves professionally 24-7 for 60+ years? I don't think so. They're all human.
Diana Ross always showed by example you do NOT have to thrust your hips (although she has on occasion) and show your tits (which she has also done on occasion) to bring attention to your craft. She maintained one should ALWAYS show respect to their craft by adhering to the rules of moral discipline. If she did get caught up in that game when she was young and dumb, she soon found out fast what happens, and then as an artist with that experience expounded on what NOT to do if you want it all, and want to lay your head down at night and smile. Smile knowing you did nothing compromising with your body or tweaked your personal inner moral compass, and/or mishandled anyone else to move forward in your career that day. Her parents and teachers taught her those important attributes which I admire her for. Mr. Gordy's father, 'Pops' as they used to call him, was an exceptional man of regal noble character. No one said she was perfect and she is far from it. BUT, it has been stated that if you do right, God will bless you for it. So take a look at her life. Motown, the Supremes, and solo superstardom were not the blessings--and I'll go on record to say that she'd agree with me here. Rhonda Suzanne, Tracee Joy, Chudney Lane, Ross Arne and Evan Olav and Raif, Leif, Calloway, and Jagger (had to look the ‘grandbabies’ up!) are her blessings. She was honored for bringing up exceptional children, basically alone, with a career, AND FANS, that demanded attention 24-7. Commitments, contracts, enemies, siblings, pets, children, parents, friends, staff, venues, managers, lawyers, and her age, illness, mortgages, death, weight, memory, guilt, money-issues, remorse, loyalty...etc. all factoring in and demanding attention sometimes all at once. And for the most part, publicly displaying nothing but kindness, compassion, and professionalism.
She may not have been perfect on her way to becoming, 'Diana Ross'. And guess what? You guessed it! I could give a rat's ass. I WILL LOVE HER FOREVER. She made a difference in MY life, MY being and who I AM INSIDE just by being her. We are ALL the richer for it.
Completely forgot about this one.
Ahhhhhhh
Very introspective

I couldn't remember this song for the life of me. Then, one day on the satellite radio it comes on. In 1987, I met this girl and we had a wonderful week together. One night we were enjoying each other`s company and this song comes on. I could hear the excitement in her voice. "Hey this song was my graduation song." I never forgot her even though we only spent a week together. I often wondered what ever happened to her.
Find her! YOLO!
The theme song for the year I graduated high school...
Theme song for my high school graduation too :)
audio magnifico
that song relates to me because I'm not where I want to be right now. I want to get a place of my own and maybe move back to my hometown and get a diffrent job and I'm feeling sad and lonely and dealing with hurt feelings from over a year ago that I haven't gotten over yet. i gotta save up to move out on my own but I'll be able to but right now I feel lonely and depressed but time heals all wounds.
Scott Bohyer Hang in there Scott. I'm 53 years old. When I was younger things were so different. But now there is hope that this country has not had for many years. Best wishes to you. Take care.
Scott Bohyer don't give up! Make your life what you want it to be!
This country is in a very bad way right now. You are so off the mark.
Scott Bohyer you will have faith... I know how you feel that's I'm feeling right now
knowing that you will "get over it" means you will!

I loved this song way back in the 70's....I would sing this along with Ms. Ross....The Film was Crap..but the song was Great! IT should of won Best Song at the Oscars....
This movie was not crap!!!!! I work as a hairstylist now doing fashion shows for NY and Paris fashion week because of the inspiration from this film. And during fashion week this year in NY, I was on the subway going to a show when i sat next to this young twenty something girl sketching beautiful desingns in her sketchbook and i looked at her and said are we having a Mahogany moment right now and she laughed because she knew exactly what i meant by that as she was on her way to Marc Jacobs. So what was crap for you was inspirational and life changing for me and is still changing lives today!!!!!
When I first heard this song in late 1975, I was dealing with double losses, first losing my father tragically and then a relationship breakup. The first line had me hooked, "Do you know where you're going to?...Do you like the things that life is showing you?" My answer at that time was "NO!" to both questions. This song was very much a picture of my life in late 1975. Never saw the movie but this song tugs at my heart 40 years later. Probably my favorite by Diana Ross.
frdjr252 Oh, I"m so sorry. I too have lost so many loved ones. Take care.
Thanks for sharing personal parts of your life. Sorry for your losses.
frdjr252
You should see the movie. Was a really goo one.
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to? do you know?
Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?
Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies that filled our minds
You knew i loved you, but my spirit was free
Laughing at the question that you once ask me
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to? do you know?
Now, looking back in all we pass
We've let so many dreams just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long before we see
How sad the answers to those questions can be?
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to? do you know?
Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door
What are you hoping for? do you know?
My favorite pop song of all time! I even painstakingly, over many months, arranged the song for our orchestra at Freeport High School in Illinois. Happy birthday to a handful with an amazingly elegant and dolorous voice. EXTRA CREDIT: Can you detect the counterpoint (played on guitar) beginning at 2:35? (You here it fully elsewhere on the soundtrack.)
is that an oboe bro?
love this song....
me to - it relates strongly to my mother
I F****N Love it!
Just wanted to say that, at the age of 40, and in my current place in life...this song has a lot of meaning for me...
There are a lot of aspects of my life that I am proud of and a lot of aspects of my life that I wish I could do over and change
Something about hitting a birthday milestone...like 40..(each decade in our life is a milestone) i see it as a time to reflect..but never regret. We all experience the ebb and flow of life.. we learn, we grow and we change. Accept ALL the experiences with love that life.. GOD, the Devine, the Universe has given you.
