Roots, The - Lighthouse Lyrics

[Intro: Dice Raw]
If you can‘t swizzim then ya bound to drizzown
Passing out life jackets bout to go didown
Get down with the captain or go down with the ship
Before the dark abyss I’m gon’ hit you wit’ dis
[repeat]

[Hook: Dice Raw]
And no one’s in the lighthouse
You’re face down in the ocean
And no one’s in the lighthouse
And it seems like you just screamed
It’s no one there to hear the sound
And it may feel like there’s no one there
That cares if you drown
Face down in the ocean

[Verse 1: Dice Raw]
Smoking cheap weed sipping on cheap vodka
You pick your poison down Davey Jones’ locker
It’s rum we be wanting
By the tons my consumption
Take a look at my lungs and my liver
It’s disgusting
Take a look at the man in the mirror
We start fussing
Only one person gets hurt when throwing the punches - me
And the man behind the glass just laughs
The waves come over my head and just crash
My hand start bleeding water starts receding
A feeling comes into my heart I start believing that
I actually might survive through the evening
Survive on my own thoughts of suicide that’s competing
With thoughts of tryna stay alive which been weakened
By the feeling of putting on a smile while being beaten
The fear of drowning still diving in the deep end
The waters carried me so far you can’t reach ‘em
And it feels like there’s no one

[Hook: Dice Raw]
No one’s in the lighthouse
You’re face down in the ocean
And no one’s in the lighthouse
And it seems like you just screamed
It’s no one there to hear the sound
And it may feel like there’s no one there
That cares if you drown
Face down in the ocean

[Verse 2: Black Thought]
After the love is lost
Friendship dissolves
And even blood is lost
Where did it begin
The way we did each other wrong
Troubled water neither one of us could swim across
I stopped holding my breath
Now I am better off
There without a trace
And you in my head
All the halted motion of a rebel without a pause
What it do is done till you dead and gone
The grim reaper telling me to swim deeper
Where the people go to lo and behold the soul keeper
I’m not even breaking out in a sweat
Or cold fever but
I’m never paying up on my debt or tolls either
I’ll leave the memories here I won’t need them
If I stop thinking and lie, now that’s freedom
Your body’s part of the Maritime museum
Face down in the past is where I’m being

[Hook: Dice Raw]
And no one’s in the lighthouse
You’re face down in the ocean
And no one’s in the lighthouse
And it seems like you just screamed
It’s no one there to hear the sound
And it may feel like there’s no one there
That cares if you drown
Face down in the ocean

[Outro: Dice Raw]
If you can‘t swizzim then ya bound to drizzown
Passing out life jackets bout to go didown
Get down with the captain or go down with the ship
Before the dark abyss I’m gon’ hit you wit’ dis
[repeat]

  8. P.... H....

Does anyone know if the hook for this track is a sample "You're face down in the ocean..." because it kind of sounds like it was taken from a catchy pop song. Anyways, I love this track, great lyrical content and that shuffle is incredible!

    P.... H....

+Pablo Horteg Nope, the hook was made for this song, and sung by Dice Raw. I thought the same when I first heard it.

    Z.... ....

@Zinskey old shit? hbuahhaah you made my day

    Z.... ....

@Tyler Durden  is that the only word you comprehensed? You made MY day. Even if it's not old in your book, why can't you just agree with me that it's agitating to not see or hear The Roots anywhere unless you look for it - because they deserve more views and credit for what they do.

    Z.... ....

@Zinskey to each their own. no need to get frustrated because people don't like what you like that shit is just childish

  11. C.... S....

  19. R.... F....

The Roots have been around since '87. But yes, hip hop has definitely been revitalized in the last few years

  20. S.... K....

  35. b.... ....

Nobody doing it like the roots... for years too. Every other hip hop group around the time the roots started are no longer (which were great too, i.e. Blackstar). Rep Philly soul Roots!

  39. B.... S....

    sick beat.

  40. j.... d....

    love the beat.... real vibes

  41. P.... M....

3 dislikes? Those idiots are definitely going to hell. One of my favourite songs of the last 3 years POINT BLANK PERIOD. Dice's first verse is just absolute... poetry.

  42. f.... ....

it's ok dude, but the roots been here since the beginning of the 90' and put out more then 10 albums !!!!!

  43. o.... ....

    rob root thuggin'

  44. A.... T....

roots been around years, we're fucked

  45. p.... ....

It is such a shame that The Roots continue to drop gem after gem and are slept on by so many. Consistently they bring musical talent and ingenuity on their albums. But, I guess it isn't just mindless drug and gun talk so no love.

I tried listening to some Rick Ross not too long ago and it was just garbage. Each song was the same as the one before it.

  46. V.... T....

problem with the future of hip hop.. these days it's all about a "fast buck" in the industry.. look at how long it took the roots to finally get the financial success they deserve by getting on the Jimmy Fallon show.. But they were humble and paid their dues, took about what, 11 years of making under appreciated music? No rapper wants to pay dues and earn their success, just rather go with the fast deal and make rubbish for the children to eat up.. truly sad, what WON'T niggas do for cash?..

  47. D.... ....

Black Thought is truly the greatest MC to ever touch a microphone.

  48. J.... S....

I like how this guy says were entering a new era with the roots...umm they have been around since the 90's man...pretty sure they aren't new in fact they have old sound mixed with new sound...this guy!!!

  49. E.... ....

Colombian Chino likes this a lot!!!

  50. t.... ....

dude, the roots are in the rap game since 1987, it is no part of "new era of hip hop"

  51. #.... ....

My favorite from the album, period!

  52. W.... ....

    MASTERPIECE!!! The whole album.

  53. B.... ....

Can this album ever be topped?

  54. E.... ....

    Gotta agree with Henry.

    The Roots > Kanye,

  55. A.... S....

Kanye has legendary beats. I prefer the Roots, but Kanye did a lot of great tracks mostly for others, don't forget that.

  56. L.... R....

    say no to drugs.

  57. M.... M....

    Hell yea , mate, Crockeye.

  58. H.... B....

don't mention Kanye and the Roots in the same sentence. please.

  59. T.... ....

i thought i was trippin when the screen started moving... it is moving right??

  60. C.... K....

You can never find yourself, untill you lose yourslef. that's why i'm thankful for hard times. they define who I am, who we are

  61. g.... ....

its actually sad people how people overlook artist like common and black thought

  62. M.... R....

im only 20 born in the 90s but i feel this soo much where did hip hop go ?

    M.... R....

    To a hellish place that's 4 sure.

    M.... R....

Milly Reeves we still got some gems
Listen to Kendrick Lamar, earl sweatshirt, Danny brown, etc

  63. P.... M....

2 dislikes? Jesus christ they need to get their hip hop passes revoked. Amazing, poetic, BEAUTIFUL song.

  64. F.... ....

    the hook is unreal

  65. D.... R....

i kinda do i just think its chords i have heard before.

  66. B.... B....

    "After the love is lost
    Friendship dissolves
    And even blood is lost
    Where did it begin
The way we did each other wrong
Troubled water neither one of us could swim across." Tough. Black though is poetry

  67. O.... ....

    This song hurts so good.
If you've been underwater you know what I mean

  68. e.... ....

Your right about all, but the roots have been around since Kendrick Lamar was 6 and have put out enough to be legend years ago

  69. C.... ....

cuz the last three are instrumentals - meant to depict the characters death

  70. C.... ....

    ignorance

  71. a.... ....

    even aliens would admire this.

  72. J.... ....

... Dice Raw will go down as the Roots' Sixth Man who can single handedly be another team's superstar.

  93. J.... P....

@conorgorman25 I agree. This hook has so much symbolism in it, its crazy. It doesnt have to be catchy to make you take notice!
