Rodriguez - I'll Slip Away Lyrics

And I'll forget about the girl that said no
Then I'll tell who I want where to go
And I'll forget about your lies and deceit
And your attempts to be so discreet

Maybe today, yeah
I'll slip away

And you can keep your symbols of success
Then I'll pursue my own happiness
And you can keep your clocks and routines
Then I'll go mend all my shattered dreams

Maybe today, yeah
I'll slip away

Cause you've been down on me for too long
And for too long I just put you on
Now I'm tired of lying and I'm sick of trying
Cause I'm losing who I really am
And I'm not choosing to be like them

And if you get bored and you got loneliness
Or it's dislike for me you express
I won't care if you're right or you're wrong
I won't care cause you see I'll be gone

Maybe today, yeah
I'll slip away

Maybe today, yeah
Maybe today, yeah
Maybe today, yeah girl
I'll slip away

I lost a couple of years laying back smoking joints and listening to Rodriguez (late 70's early 80's) not knowing anything about South Africa
The was not forgotten here in OZ.

Wow after watching the Netflix documentary 1st as many I suspect ever hearing of this guy. I'm not into this kind of music I'm a head banger but I appreciate history of rock and roll and can hear talent this guy definitely had something. What an amazing story thank God he finally hit it big and made commercial success. Imo he was probably not marketed right. I watched this documentary on 12 December 2019 coincidentally he was playing 1 night only in my town on 13th but sold out. This man is as humble as any man ever. This man is in his 70s now he should be in rock and roll hall of fame. He's the Latin Bob Dylan. Thank God the world was made aware of this superstar.

Bob dylan copied TONS of lyrics , Sixto Suffer living in the streets , AND He composed his own lyrics. from the real soul. . do not compare at all . as mick jager said , SIXTO is one of this GREATEST COMPLETE ARTIST. that suffer the hard reality of RACISM. Bob dylan is just a prototype WHITE boy that was easy to sell to the people.

    E.... A....

Dylan & Beatles chg world- think outta boxes- 45 yrs vinyl to now this fan on reg get my dose of astonishment of such brilliance. This Cat, Rodriguez, brilliant indeed, Poet indeed, studying his work deeply, WHAT A GUY! , What If?, gentle genius & no ego, unique style, appreciated greatly as I dig in, How can this escape radar?, Partly saddened & happy for him but what if he has the doe to keep on during the most prolific creativity window ages in life for most gifted artists....sucks if heritage mattered enough. Mankind not benefiting from what could have been. Boxed in less rigorous thinkers making ignorance a virtue. Sleep walking humans like cattle herds follow bell cows and told what to think. too much uptight hungup folks % boxed in. Im pissed the hubris to have these huge brains capable of great things programed from youth to not use them or exercise them with books. boxed in. If you get Dylan Beatles Rodriguez your most likely thinkers seekers of truth, etc. Einstein didnt slip through cracks- & a hero of mine. BUT WHAT THE HELL ELSE DIDNT WE GET. 50 YEARS OF RODRIGUEZ THINKING & EVOLUTION OF HIS ART WOULD HAVE served man well, I submit. Maybe one day we can live until we die. Outgrowing this hate, racism, & superstition etc, in my opinion is delayed. We cant know how much. A southern man who lived in interesting times like me taught from childhood to hate, fear worldly knowledge, etc. i BEAT THAT SOMEHOW & "now Im finally free". It is not popular but I fear nothing now. "Only wise men change their minds", someone said. Seeking Truth objectively, critical thinking & at 40 yrs old I finally learned to open mindedly weigh evidence. No longer shackled, & Free, & Alive for the first time I almost waited too long. THANKS RODRIGUEZ! TRUTH DOES NOT CHANGE so you said it best....& I AM FREE TO ACTUALLY LIVE & LEARN UNTIL I DIE! (my mantra now & I WILL DO IT UNTIL I DIE). LOVING YOUR WORK, RODRIGUEZ, so I have to say this about you now..... WHAT A GUY!
    Thanks man. Respectfully submitted, Gary
