Rodney Crowell - Wandering Boy Lyrics

Come in from the cold you must be cold
Thread bare against a freezing wind is a short time gettin' old
Come and sit down tell me where you've been
Rest your soul beside the fire till it's time to go again

Take me back
One more time
Where the railroad tracks
Meet the kudzu vine
Wandering boy

The blood that's flowing through you flows through me
When I look in any mirror it's your face that I see
And you're my only brother I'm your twin
And you've come home to rest awhile and shed your dying skin

Ease your mind
Have no fear
When it comes your time
I'll be here
Wandering boy

We're two Houston kids
Sailin' mason jar lids
With our pop bottles hid
By the bayou bend
In the wild East End
Welcome back again
Wandering boy

I used to cast my judgements like a net
All those California gay boys deserved just what they get
Little did I know there would come a day
When my words would come back screaming like a debt I have to pay

Lean on me
I'll be strong
We're almost free
It won't be long
Wandering boy

I should add that I listen to this song often.

  2. F.... S....

He is singing about real people. Twin brothers. His understanding, mild guilt, and just plain love brings tears to my eyes.

    Beautiful

I have no smart Words to share ..I seek no answers ..because I have no questions ..I only in silence listen ...

funny. i wondered if i would find more people following the Wheel of Ka to this song after reading the Final Argument in Wolves of the Calla......never noticed before it was Enrico Balazar driving the Caddy that ran over Jake.

hope you all have enjoyed Rolands tale as much as i.....and that we are all well met.

    m.... r....

So excited to see I’m not the only one to follow ka 😊

Hile gunslingers! We are well met!I'll bet my watch and warrant on it, I would. All things serve the beam. Long days and pleasant nights til' we meet again when we come to the clearing at the end of the path. Aim with the eye, shoot with the mind, kill with heart. Stand and be true and remember the faces of your fathers ka-babbies!

    I love the guitar solos

    C.... C....

The guitar solos are so clean and simple, but they do make the song.

    C.... C....

The work of 'Steuart Smith'... ahhhh.....plays next to Joe Walsh. His first project with Rodney Crowell, after leaving as studio musician in Nashville.

  7. C.... C....

I believe this is the best, most haunting, most moving song, that Rodney Crowell ever wrote and performed. It makes me think of my brother's coming out process and how blessed I am that he's my brother and lives five minutes from me.

One of the best songs, from one of the best songwriters ever. Just too beautiful. Over the last few years I've gotten to see him live a couple of times. I hope to a lot more!

It's so sad that mainstream media abandoned this song, when them doing the opposite could have done so much to make people in general question their judgements, perhaps.
It's a very special, touching song by a really great artist.
    Thanks, Steve. xo

@Novali95 - You caught me just uploading another ! lol Just wish more people would take the time to listen to his songs, sadly people are too rushed these days. Thanks for bucking that trend and pleased you have joined the admiration of a great singer songwriter. Love and Kram, Steve x
