Rod Stewart - Man Of Constant Sorrow Lyrics

I am a man of constant sorrow
I've seen trouble all my days
I'll say goodbye to Colorado
Where I was born and prob'ly raised

Your mother says I am a stranger
My face you'll never see no more
But there's one promise darling
I'll see you on God's golden shore

Through this open world I'm about to ramble
Through ice, snow, sleet and rain
I am about to rob the mornin' railroad
Perhaps I'll die on that train

I'm goin' back to Colorado
Place that I started from
If I'd knowed how bad you'd treat me
Honey I never would have come

These songs from the album "An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down" were simply the best songs of Rod ever.

  2. B.... A....

Old Raincoat was a statement of the era, before the satin sellout. A venture into disco that horribly embarrassing sailing & becoming a Michael Bublé style crooner

  3. R.... C....

    The best version hands down

    I have loved Rod forever>
His early stuff is still the best appart from the odd thing here and there.
On this occasion, this is just not a song or him.
    Worst version ever.
He's completely singing the wrong words, half those words are not even in the song and the musics all wrong and the lyrics are mixed up with verses in the wrong places.
He's not even singing "Man of constant sorrow".
This is a train wreck if you know the original song.

Rod was so great and brilliant during this time of music...how did he go down to such a low level of mediocrity later during the mid 70's....shameful because he was so brilliant and then went sleazy corrupt mediocre bullshit later.

    Love it!

I thought Rod Stewart's debut album was simply called the Rod Stewart album did they rename it from an old raincoat years later when it was Mercury?
or is it kind of like with the Beatles there was a US release in an English release the US on the Mercury label with the Rod Stewart album hologram just kind of curious how you called it in to The heading an old raincoat won't Let You Down album where is I have it and it's been always called the rod Stewart album
_nevermind I thought so a little Google search showed indeed 1970 you guys got an old raincoat Will never Let You Down in the United States in 1969 it was released simply as the Rod Stewart album_

My favorite version of this song, to bad Rod lost his cool later on, got kind of sleazy and cheap, but that was the 70s.

    I love this album!

  13. o.... ....

    Great song....

  14. J.... S....

Bob Dylan sang this on his first album.

  15. r.... g....

This is the best interpretation of this song I have ever heard.Rod the Mod had soul once upon a time.

Years ago, after Rod had gone so tacky commercial (Do You Love My Body, Tonight's the Night) I made a cassette for my intern and called it When Rod Stewart Was Good. Of course his first solo album was there in full, with much of Gasoline Alley and Every Picture as a bonus. Loved him as vocalist extraordinaire with the Jeff Beck Group and those first solo albums. James 1:17 y'all.

  16. O.... P....

These early works of Rod are his best. The whole album is very good.

  17. C.... R....

For some reason Rod Stewart made the best version of this song. Amazing!

  18. G.... H....

    Rod didn't write this song

  19. N.... M....

Wow what a song.....Sir Rod wrote these songs about his life at the time

    N.... M....

The song was first published in 1913 as "Farewell Song" in a six-song songbook by Dick Burnett, titled Songs Sung by R. D. Burnett—The Blind Man—Monticello, Kentucky. Some uncertainty, however, exists as to whether Dick Burnett himself wrote the song. In an interview he gave toward the end of his life, Burnett himself indicated he could not remember:

    N.... M....

no he didn't, this was not his composition.
