Robert Plant - Hey Joe Lyrics

Hey Joe where you goin with that money in your hand
Hey Joe where you goin with that money in your hand

I'm goin downtown, buy me a blue steel 44
I'm goin downtown, buy me a blue steel 44

Hey Joe, where you goin with that gun in your hand
Hey Joe, where you goin with that gun in your hand

I'm goin downtown find my baby she's been running with another man
Gonna find my woman she's been running with another man.

Hey Joe I heard you shot your lady down
Hey Joe I heard you shot your lady down

Yes I did I shot her just like I said
Yes I did I shot her just like I said

Hey Joe where you gonna run to now
Hey Joe where you gonna run to now

I'm goin way down south
I'm goin way down south where I can be free

Ain't no hangman
Ain't no hangman
Ain't' no hangman
Ain't no hangman puttin no noose around me.

The quality of the recording doesn't help... but... anyway no. It's not his track. At least with this arrangement.

  13. C.... m....

He really does sound like Steve Marriott with bit of Felix Cavaliere "You Need Lovin'" Small Faces Great organ atmosphere in there. It s amazing how deep ad distorting Rob's voice is like pushin up a wall-a good thing :D Against the grain I love that call to "Stop!"

  14. J.... S....

Too tinny and jangly. Very harsh on the ears.

    P.... W....

@President Donald Trump he didn't know about him then. The guy who turned the job down told Jimmy to check out this kid doing th pubs

  25. D.... E....

One of the best versions- I found 30 top versions. All in the 60s and 70s. My top versions: Alvin Lee 1979, this Robert Plant version, Jimi Hendrix, Roy Buchanan, Wilson Pickett, Lee Moses, Johnny Rivers but there are many others- all great- great song

    D.... E....

Donald Elley - lol.....thumbs up for being such a fan of this song

    D.... E....

Check out Mel Brown, Otis Taylor, lady on violin shreds, You mentioned Roy,talk about one of the all time greats on guitar. The Who does a decent job, Roger has some lungs also. But this is the best

  26. t.... m....

    V.... C....

Vineet Chaudhary You're one of the very few Indians that reach this part of youtube.

  30. T.... B....

Meio estranho essa versão restaurada, já tão habituado com os bootlegs disponíveis há anos nos torrents... Ainda preciso ouvir umas vezes mais pra encaixar.

  31. t.... g....

    good for your aches pns

  32. J.... P....

    Good find!!!!!

  33. M.... D....

This Robert plant singing with the Band of joy pre-Led Zeppelin

    M.... D....

    But WITH John Bonham...

  34. L.... ....

Plants amazing voice + hendrix on guitar = Best version.

    L.... ....

+Nat Funk actually what I meant to say was that the best version would be where jimi plays guitar and Robert sings .

    L.... ....

    +gagan deep I second that.

    L.... ....

Not Hendrix. Jimmy Page. Was recorded when Led Zeppelin first got together.

    L.... ....

@April Lichtenwald Did you read my previous comment

    L.... ....

+April Lichtenwald this is The Band of Joy, not Led Zeppelin

  35. D.... W....

    Wow. His version sucks

    D.... W....

    As does your opinion.

    D.... W....

    And your mom?

  36. c.... ....

wow this restored version is better than any others i have heard before. Where did you find it?

    c.... ....

    chinchillaman1
    The DEVIL you say .

    c.... ....

    This is an official release.

  37. e.... ....

How old was robert here? 17 18?
Also is that bonzo on drums??

    e.... ....

    raw some...

    e.... ....

YES....John Bonham on the drums!!...John was one of a few people who advised Jimmy to go hear Robert sing...and the rest---is history!!

    e.... ....

Paul Warner no, terry ried showed jimmy page Robert plant

    e.... ....

Yeah, Terry Reid, who Page originally wanted as the lead singer told Page to take a look at Robert. Once Page got Robert on board, Plant told Page that they needed his friend, Bonham, on drums.

    e.... ....

@X1xone Bonzo saw Robert at a gig early on and apparently told him, you're good, but you'd be better
    with me. Prophetic words.

  38. e.... ....

How old was robert here? 17 18?
Also is that bonzo on drums??

    e.... ....

This was recorded in '68, so Plant would have been 20-ish. And yes, Bonzo was drumming for the Band of Joy when they recorded this.

    e.... ....

+Kiran Digavalli THAT'S SO AWESOME! You can hear how young and un-polished the two were. It's beautiful. Lol

    e.... ....

    See.Bonzo is unmistakable

  39. M.... T....

i become verry happy when i found my favourite songs by my other favourite singers :'(

  40. R.... ....

The run Plant delivers at 1.20 is frighteningly good.

    R.... ....

I've always said that as well.

    R.... ....

Rhys1992Mallon wish there was a video of that.

    R.... ....

    Goosebumps man

  41. M.... ....

This is the definitive version in my eyes, Prefer the music and vocals to Hendrix's cover etc ( Not to say that his version wasn't by any means brilliant ) .. Plant's voice in this is just overwhelmingly and powerfully good!

    M.... ....

The Band of Joy version is really based on/inspired by Hendrix' cover...which is better, no doubt about it.

    M.... ....

Same here. The original is phenomenal but Plant's vocals makes it heaps better alone. Plus you have Bonzo pounding away which adds to it's superiority.

    M.... ....

    Ian Coe

    M.... ....

    MoonBearBush
I didn't enjoy this one bit . Jimi Hendrix can't be beat !

  42. B.... W....

Plant does an exceptional job with the vocals!!!!!!!!

  43. M.... ....

Actually it's Kevin Gammond on guitar

  44. b.... s....

    yes it is

  45. D.... B....

Yes, I did. ,She messing round with another man.... Hey Joe! I go way down south, I go down México way!

  46. .... ....

    absolutely right

  47. O.... ....

    “Hey Joeeeeeeeee”

    That voice, that mother-f’cking voice....

Some 40 years later, you look back at beginnings of monumental artist like Robert Plant and it seems like destiny that they were bound to make it. Elvis, Jimmy, McCartney, Axl, Slash, etc.

I would have given my left nut (and right) to have lived their life.

It seems incredibly unfair that certain ppl were touched with incredible talent, while 99% of the rest of us were destined for on a 9-to-5, white picket fence existence.

    Blows!

    O.... ....

    Fucking preach

    O.... ....

Bro, just listen to bonham, if they told u, u are listening to the band of joy. But who is there in the drums? Fucking bonzooo dudeee

  48. T.... K....

Its just you. Prefer Jimi's personally but this is an excellent version as well.

  49. M.... E....

Wonderful interpretation of Robert Plant, I'm sure he bows Jimi ..

  50. c.... ....

i swear i was wearing pant's about 2 minutes ago.

    c.... ....

    That’s sexy

  51. p.... ....

quelle voix...quelle voix...quelle voix... superbe Plant!

  52. D.... P....

i'd say its just different i love both

  53. .... ....

it is just me or Robert plant sing this song 110 millions times better then jimmy
    hendrix

    .... ....

Obviously, Jimi made the song a guitar song.  With a voice like Robert Plant's, it's a voice song.  I say it is a "voice" song and the voices that make this song stellar are Robert Plant and Wilson Pickett.

    .... ....

    ושי ישראל
It's just you . I love Robert Plant but Hey Joe doesn't go with him . Sorry .

  54. J.... B....

It's good to have someone who can sing, singing over this song.

  55. O.... ....

Jimmy must have thought "WTF" when he heard Robert for the first time.

    O.... ....

    OhhShakeItBaby
I am still thinking that !

    O.... ....

    And Bonham too!!

  56. b.... s....

other people did this song in the 60s to but hendrix verson is the only one that made it

  57. b.... s....

this was done in 1965 with john bonham on drums with the band of joy

  58. b.... ....

Simply beautiful. Robert Plants voice is just beautiful.

  59. M.... M....

Está en Dreamland de Band of Joy

  60. P.... R....

    Bonham na bateria! FODA

  61. F.... T....

I think I actually love you.

  62. P.... K....

    i just stepped upon gold.

  63. 1.... ....

This is my favourite version of the song, if not one of my favourite songs.

  64. R.... L....

  65. S.... ....

spirit do a fine version of hey joe on the spirit of 76 album

  66. P.... P....

Perfect version, better than original. Robert is great singer.

  67. a.... ....

ah, fuck yes.. this is a good cover.

  68. O.... n....

Isn't this remastered version of Plant's and Bonham's band Band of Joy's cover?

  69. k.... ....

@dinkydao Blame it on the heavy handed noise reduction and the added reverb which makes it sound totally unnatural. As for the source, the original acetate is all we'll ever have.

  70. f.... ....

    this is unbelievable!

  71. k.... ....

    This cover is incredible.

  72. v.... ....

@carlos86902 así es, la banda es Band of Joy con el mismísimo John Bonham en la batería, medio Led Zeppelin

  73. J.... C....

Strange, Plants vocals sound so much stronger on the bootleg versions of this song from the same source. But you can certainly see why Page tripped out when he first heard Plant and wondered how he could not possibly have hoooked up with a major band by this point.
