At high school we had a French teacher whose name was Jim Dooley. The class used to sing this song every time he entered class using Jim instead of Tom. It was lucky any of us passed the subject. This is a great rendition and very comparable with the Kingston Trio.

I saw the movie that someone produced, but I can't remeber who was in it sometime in the 60

"The Legend of Tom Dooley" Made in 1959. Michael Landon (Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, Highway To Heaven) played Tom Dooley. Jo Morrow played Laura Foster.

It had little resemblance to the actual murder case, but, was consistent with the Kingston Trio version of the song.

In the late 50s I saw the grave of Tom Dooley in the Ozarks.

I beg your pardon ,but the Tom Dooley that the song is referring to is buried in Ferguson , North Carolina with a tombstone inscription that reads Tom Dula .

Yeah, but Dula is pronounced the same as Dooley. Like I said, the "a" in Dula sounds like a "y".

I hope you know it's spelt Dula not Dooley. The "a" is pronounced like a "y" it's an Apalachin accent.
