Rivers, Johnny - Carpet Man Lyrics
When you see some puddles on the ground
You lay down so she don't have to walk around
You think that will protect her from the rain
But you'll never ever stop the pain
She walks all over you
She knows she can
You're the carpet man
You're the carpet man
You take such care to keep that girl's feet clean
Like she's some kind of figurine
The world's so far below her it's not her scene
She uses you to stand between
She knows she can
You're the carpet man
You're the carpet man
I would think you'd get tired of hurting
Every now and then
It's no good down there
And that's for certain and carpets do get then
And that's when they have to be thrown away
That's what she'll say to herself some sunny day
And she'll say come to my wedding
And of course, you do
And then the groom and her
Will have a dance on you
She walks all over you
She knows she can
You're the carpet man
You're the carpet man
Carpet man
Carpet man
Carpet man
Carpet man...

love Johnny since my older sister brought home his LP Rewind when I was about 13 or 14 love carpet man such a good record :)
Thanks for posting I love anything by Johnny Rivers, such a big fan
Genius. Just genius.
Yes, Johnny did this first, summer of '67 I do believe, 5th Dimension did it late 67-early 68, and theirs was the version I heard 1st. Loved the sitar in the ending of their version.

+Dantas some mud
+Dantas "Carpets do get THIN".
Fantastic album....Superb production, and Johnny handles the vocals beautifully, along with the great backup by the Fifth Dimension.....My goodness! I wish I could go back to LA back then.....!
@***** wow....never thought of that Stipe thing...he really is similar!
@TheAerovons OMG!
I was a big fan of both versions, 5th dimension and Johnny R.....cool song even today it stands up with the best...if you don't have it buy it packaged with his other great lp Realization.
Add to this . . . The Fifth Dimension . . . who, I believe, also recorded it as a single. BTW, they are the backing vocals on this great Jim Webb song.
