Rita Coolidge - Late Again Lyrics

Woke up late again this mornin'
I was late again last night
In the mood that I was born in
And my skin was feelin' tight

Took a short cut to the city
Had myself a drink or two
I've got over feeling shaky
But I'm still not over you

Good God I might as well forget you
You ain't never coming to
Seems like ever since I met you
I've been a gettin' over you

I don't crave no conversation
I don't need no sympathy
All I want is my baby
And my baby wantin' me

So take me anyway if you want me
I'll take you anyway I can
I don't want your sack of candy
Just a little some sweetness now and then

I got to get myself together
With someone who wants some too
Maybe I can learn to love again
While I'm a gettin' over you

Thanks for posting! Never heard this one before... what a great picture these lyrics paint; Kristofferson is an "artist who holds the brush in his hand," without a doubt. Who are the great musicians playing on it? Rita's voice is perfection for this exquisite rendition, with her beautiful backup in and out like a heavenly choir...

Excerpt: "As I stepped up on the stage to sing “Late Again,” which Kris wrote and is a song I still perform (“I woke up late again this morning . . .”), it suddenly struck me that maybe it was time to stop performing. I’d reached a point in my pregnancy—and I assume this happens to a lot of other women—where I really didn’t care about anything except having my baby. I wasn’t concerned about what was happening beyond my pregnancy, or about what Kris did. I just told him, “You take care of solving the world’s problems and keeping track of the big things. I’m going to leave..."
