modern bands that just shred fast and technical like this is great and it’s extremely hard to play (probably trickiest guitar work out there just behind some classical shit). But what happened to the perfect mix of shred and melody that guitarist acquired in the past? I obviously know that there is still technically melody in this, his other works, and in all of the modern metal scene. But what I seem to be seeing in modern guitarists is a lack of effort/focus on melody and more on shred, instead of mixing both. I feel like guitarists in the 60s-90s focused on getting great melodies, shredding, then mixing the too perfectly

Ok 7:51 looks suspect. I love ROS, I subscribe, I listen to them everyday to, during and after work. Godless times and Natural Selection are my 2 favorite songs. I believe Lucas can play, I don’t think he mimes, I believe he can play what he writes and I think he has more talent in a nut hair than Jared Dines has in his entire body. I admire this guy not even so much as his guitar playing but more from his humility. He could easily chalk up his ability to just being "that good" and born with it or whatever. Instead he brings it down to ground level and admits that it's just insane amounts of practicing. Over and over and over again. Not very glamorous but that's real life. I like it.
