Rick Springfield - The Unhappy Ending (Lead Me On) Lyrics
Tears subsiding
Michael lifts
A gun up to his head
Sorry for the part he played
In making Maggie dead
As he pulls the trigger,
And he feels the hammer fall
His mind goes back a year ago
And he remembers us all
And how we loved him
Oh (lead me on)
Lord lead me on
Oh (lead me on)
Lord lead me on
She said she'd been with other men
But that was long ago
Long before she fell in love with him
He ought to know
He could not believe her
He told her to her face
And took on with another girl
Put Maggie in disgrace
Oh (lead me on)
Lord lead me on
Oh (lead me on)
Lord lead me on
But when they found they found her dying
He realized what he done
She died because he blamed her
For things she'd never done
A loud explosion rocks the air
And things go quite insane...
As the gun hurls out the shell
It crashes through his brain
Oh (lead me on)
Lord lead me on
Oh (lead me on)
Lord lead me on

Rick Springfield The Unhappy Ending (Lead Me On) Comments
I just don’t get, his music was amazing, so much better than the rubbish we have today. I mean he wrote these songs and the music. Please explain! Brilliant voice brilliant songs.
I agree. But all the radio stations can play is Jesse's Girl. I like that song, but DJs have no imagination...
what a masterpiece of a song! i think this is his best by far....
I had the record but it got running on a flood.
This is a depressing song, and I use to have this album on vinyl.
The 1972 original with the gatefold cover or the 1980 reissue?
Now on CD at Amazon
Is it still available on CD?????
I think it is now
@George Price actually, i just checked Amazon and they only have mp3 files to download. When i uploaded these videos, the only version i could find was album. The versions in these videos are recordings that i made from the album and an mp3 turntable.
That's the last thing he intended was a teeniebopper image. That was inflated by the media and record company. There are some great songs not written for the no brainer listener or I wouldn't listen to it.
Hell, this album was and is killer! Wide range of styles and influences shown.
And keep in mind, the album was aimed at "teenyboppers"! Imagine how many teen girls were listening to this song! Mind blowing topic for a song in 1972,still is today.
awesome song, sad .
OMG .... Amazing song even now~!
Great lp miss having it around
This is my favorite song on this album. So sad, yet so compelling. The first time I heard him sing "it crashes through his brain" in reverb, it gave me chills.
Thanks for sharing
I could only find it on LP. But I have a turn table that I can copy MP3 files to my PC.
The 1972 original or the 1980's reissue?
Thx, i love this album!!!
