Rick Springfield - Mother Can You Carry Me Lyrics

When I was younger than tomorrow
When I was wise as yesterday
When I could share my brother's sorrow
Even then you went away

When my heart was yours to play with
Though your was never mine
And when I was there to lay with
Even then you had no time

Mother can you carry me
Clear across the sky
Mother can you carry me
Show me how to fly high

Now I am wise as tomorrow
And I am young as yesterday
No I have nothing buy my sorrow
Yesterday tomorrow and today

Mother can you carry me
Clear across the sky
Mother can you carry me
Show me how to fly high

Rick Springfield Mother Can You Carry Me Comments

OMG my mother died when I was 22. I've only thought about suicide twice, at 14 at the brink of a nervous breakdown, and when my daughter died. I'm bipolar (manic depressive). Rick has severe clinical depression. Don't fall into it Rick.

I have this album! This is my favorite track.

  4. T.... ....

Tremendous song. Killer string arrangement. Nice!

Devastatingly sad song. A man heartbroken and disillusioned with life, prepares to take his life and asks his deseased mother to teach him how to fly (IE: die). I considered this Rick's finest moment in songwriting.

Not sure why, but I can't get the search to find it either. But, if you will click on my username (rtmccoy1), You can view all my videos. It should be in the list. In the meantime, I will look at my search criteria on that video and see if something is wrong. Hope you enjoy them. The entire album should be on YouTube now.
