Restless Heart - Dancy's Dream Lyrics
Dancy was a deacon
Every Sunday found him there
At the Lighthouse Gospel Church
With his hands folded in prayer
And standin' right beside him
But no one could have guessed
What he was prayin' deep inside
Dancy has a demon
Livin' Somewhere in his past
That dark-haired Cajun angel
Was the devil dressed in black
Was it really voodoo
Or just weakness in the man
The only time he ever fell
[CHORUS]
Oh It's been so long, but it's still so strong
Every night the devil comes and walks through Dancy's dream
She takes him by the hand and leads him back to New Orleans
A good man's goin' crazy somewhere in between
The hymns on Sunday mornin' and the sins in Dancy's dream
Sometimes it's almost like
He was never even there
But other times he swears he smells
The flowers in her hair
He never told his secret
No one would understand
She's the only one who's seen
The dark side of the man
[REPEAT CHORUS TWICE]

Restless Heart Dancy's Dream Comments
Dostoevsky talked about the criminal needing to repent his crimes to ease the burden of his conscience. Dancey never got around to that part so everything stays bottled up inside. He still sees the dead husband he killed after a fight over having an affair with his wife. He struggles with what he could have been in life as opposed to what he actually is in real life, a killer. The problem is he has probably been a good person ever since too. How many people struggle trying to reconcile these two opposing forces of good and evil working together and simultaneously tearing each other apart in the soul of one tormented human being?
Alright. Who is this narrator that tortures this poor man? Why is he playing mind games with Dancey? Leave him alone.
I miss these guys
Apparently the young version of Dancy and the older one, have a fondness for wiping sweat from there brow.
It has to do with guilt. Do you understand this song & video?
I get this song; If you've ever been caught between where you were and where you are, you get it too.
They should play this more...the modern country is mostly cheesy garbage.
People just don't appreciate good music.
This was the last of good country music!
Beautiful song. So many of us are caught between what we are and what we wish we could be. Thanks for posting.
