REO Speedwagon - Without Expression (Don't Be The Man) Lyrics
Have you ever ridden horses through a rainstorm
Or led a lion through a busy street bazaar
There are many things I'd love to turn you on to
But somehow I feel they're safer where they are.
Well some people in bound infatuation
Someone's mother getting no imagination
So beware then, baby, sin is at everyone's door.
Don't be the man I know with no expressions lord
Ain't got none at all
Pity the man I know with no expressions lord
Ain't got none at all
But you'll never, no you'll never see this man laughing
Come to think of it, I've never seen this man cry
By and by, he'll stop and sigh, his voice will even start to speak and he will say goodbye.
Have you ever ridden horses through a rainstorm
Or led a lion through a busy street bazaar
There are many things I'd love to turn you on to
But somehow I feel they're safer where they are.

REO Speedwagon Without Expression (Don't Be The Man) Comments
REO did an amazing job covering this song! Mike's voice is perfect for this song!
Touch the sky people! I have two new female neighbors mother and daughter, they are so empty and 'expressionless' they have now targeted me, a deep caring helpful guy and now their hate and hostility is strong in the atmosphere. Don't let yourself go there people, I see the slow destruction in their faces, now I try to just stay positive and in good auric energy amidst these women's poison...
Truly love this song since the 70s.
Gary Dean Richrath!!❤❤
it's "led a line through a busy street bazaar"
This is how I know there'll be a Hammond B3 in heaven.

Damn nice
Gotta love the early REO years !!
Awesome I like to listen to this song.
Mike Murphy (not the WILDFIRE guy) who was from Indy, was the vocalist when Kevin left, and stuck around from '73 to '76...Then Kevin returned... Both distinct and very good rock vocalists....
Awesome song I love to listen to Gary Richrath playing his guitar.
AAR CUDA music mix memories

If only Lord, that everyone could hear this soul rendering reckoning in living life. One of the most deeply spiritual parables ever written🔮
Terry Reid!
did terry reid cover it or did R.E.O?? I really need to know
+winter ramos Terry Ried wrote it, and released it in 1968, and REO covered it in 1973.
@Fit BMXthanks a million
+winter ramos Yeah, me too!
and John Mellencamp covered it in 1997.
never heard this version. only the mellencamp version. thanks!
Check here under 'horses thru a rainstorm", there are versions by Terry Reid (writer), as well as The Hollies, a demo Graham Nash and CSN (got bumped from album for "carry on")... THIS Is my fav, but the 2003 remaster of Terry Reids version is a close second!
Yay the 70s!
THANK YOU!! I LOVE this album!!!!!!
BEST reo SONG EVER.
John Cougar !!!
I absolutely Love this song. Reminds me of my first and TRUE LOVE , TERI SPEARS ! To this day I wish we were together almost 40 years later. Peace and GOD Bless AMERICA !
I seen the footage they have on youtube from 1971 which is really cool they seemed like they pretty heavy rock anti war with a little blues they were great from 71 to say 81 but I would love to see some live stuff with Mike Murphy and Gary singing he sang a lot of songs between 73 and 76 the cow album and he never did another track after that he wrote a lot of there music he had a decent voice
First released version by Terry Reid in 1970 (I think). He wrote it with Graham Nash, so there are versions by the Hollies and CSNY. John Mellencamp also covered it. Thanks for uploading -- I never heard this one!
I looked for many many years to find this song. It ohas so much meaning and bRings me so much j oy with the memories it evokes
LOVE, LOVE Michael Murphy....got edged out by Kevin Cronin...loved the whiskey voice..
How proud your parents must be.
Hey, it's REO doing a Tim Reid song!
Terry Reid
LOL Tim Reid is an actor from WKRP in Cincinnati
Yeah, I had sex with most of them in 1970 what can i say
lucky girl
Not “no”
"Imma THOT?"
this has been, and will always will be my forever favorite song. REO brings back so many happy, and bittersweet memories to me. I almost tear up every time I hear this song.
You got THAT right. :D
I remember my Aunt ( she was 19, me 12) telling me of this Band in Carbondale where she had a friend going to College & they were playing a club or clubs there? If I had only known lol plus been about 6 yrs. older. Bet those were some great times. I live about an hr. from there now, even. Thanks 4 your comment. : ) I'd forgotten all about her telling me those stories. She is the one that introduced me to Beatles at 7-8. lol God bless her.
Good ol' days! I knew Kevin's sister in Danville IL and loved REO for all times! Keep Rockin ; )
let,s me know there is still a god r
Yeah, Kevin got all upity and left. Michael Murphy came in and did a great job. I have never been a Cronin fan. Gary Richrath could play that guitar though, through out it all. He retired a few years back I thought. Who's playing lead for them nowadays?
This brings me back to SIU, Carbondale IL in 1971, local bar, and this was magic. I got to know the band before they got BIG, and it was a roudy fun bar time band. So good, and so much fun dancin. drinkin, and whateverelse...at the time it was music to my heart.
I saw them playing at a high school gym in Minot, ND in Jan 1973. First date with my husband. Vietnam era, we were both stationed in the worst duty station of any military branch. Townies hated GIs. I also saw Chi Coltrane as she was fading out, REO and White Snake in that gym just as they were about to hit the big time. Still married 45 years later. Good memories. Good times.
With the blizzard hammering the midwest, this is the night to play the original Ridin' the storm out.
@EPercuss :I always distinguish between REO Speedwagon, and REO Speedwagon (back when they were good).
Great old tune! Been years since I heard it. Could you possibly post "It's Everywhere" from the same album? Thanks!
