Love this video. Life’s Rich Pageant came out when I was his age, when I first began listening to REM. And what that kid did, that’s what us gen x kids did all the time. I hope there’s room in the world today for my kids to do that kind of thing without either them or me being thrown in jail. The haphazard poetry of childhood and life seems to be being squeezed by this terrifying zeal for control of everything we say, think and do. Even though this song is a ballad, it is still punk rock.

Amazing that a story with so much feeling could be told in only 7 minutes.  REM has been one of my favs for a long time.  I recently watched the new movie, The Cold Lands, with this same boy, a few years older, as the lead. Very good movie.
