I honestly don't see why so many people have hated on this change. I mean personally I do love the strings and more spooky feel like Of Beauty and Rage, but this is fresh and it's also still clearly just as hard.

With a lyrical standpoint......I believe RED has gone downhill. Their lyrics have become pretty depressing and not as meaningful as before. I understand if others don't agree with me and it resonates with them--but imo their message is sounding a little empty

If you are straying away from Christian rock element because of sales then you are officially sellouts. Sorry one of the main reasons I liked your band was because a Christian attitude in your songs but its obvious money is more important then faith, I pray GOD has mercy on your souls... after being a fan of yours for 10+ years I am officially boycotting your band.

Maybe they're sick of being grouped with an infamously terrible music genre.
Most christian music stations won't touch anything of Red's because they'd rather have the same meaningless and unchallenged chorus repeated time and time again to the same rift from a mediocre singer. Red is too "intense" to fit into the Christian genre and the Christian Rock genre is too niche to be successful at without having a few hits transcend into casual Christian radio.
Not to mention the insane number of people illegally downloading things.
Just because they're not labeling their music "Christian" doesn't make them less Christian as people. It allows them to diversify and reach out to a new audience instead of staying on the fast-sinking ship of Christian Rock Radio. They work hard for their music and deserve to get paid.

That just means they're touring with more "secular" bands like they used to in the End of Silence days.

What a close-minded way of looking at things. To back up what The Red Layer said, Red is too different from your typical Christian radio artist. The industry is changing and bands like Red are forced to make moves like these in order to keep going. That shift doesn’t mean they’re going to outwardly write secular music or never mention God in their concert again. The main thing that sells today, unfortunately, is a rinse and repeat chorus, a generic beat, and simple lyrics that everyone has done a million times already. Red is still very much Christian and haven’t lost their way.

Set aside your condemning tone and try to understand. But hey, if you want to boycott them and miss out on good music, go ahead.

Your guys music spoke to me so much when I was growing in my faith. When I had just come off the tail end of listening to equally heavy music but had a depressing message, this music made me cry so hard and gave me a deeper perspective on God that I desperately needed. Since then, with every one of your albums I’ve cried profusely because it’s either reminded me of the darkness that I’ve come through or given me hope for the future. Now, at 26 years old, I can listen to this musicAnd really feel like I’ve come through a lot, which obviously was through the work of Christ, but your guys music has definitely helped. Will always be a fan!

Well this album had some collaboration with Starset's Dustin Bates as co-writer in a couple songs.

Both of the bands are produced by Rob Graves, so they are connected. If they make a collaboration album, I would be in paradise.

Listening to every Red Song, always makes me live my imagination. Over and over again

The musical writing is top notch (though the songs are all 1-2 minutes too short). My main issue is that the lyrics continue Red's spiral down into darkness, and they're not creative either.

End of Silence offered hope, but since then it's been mostly dark and gritty. Where's the hope of Christ that shone through in songs like "Breathe Into Me"? Beyond the short songs, I'm really disappointed by the lyrical quality on this album. It's well produced and musically gripping, but it feels like the same rehashed things Red has already written about before, but with less thought. Assuming they put out another album, I hope they don't go anymore lamestream rock with the lyrics.

I agree. I'm trying to figure out the meaning of this song... I like the new musical sound on this album. But the lyrics . U wouldnt be able to tell they're a christian band. I think they still are

For Gone, I'd argue that the lyrics are more on the side of thought-provoking or challenging the listener (or fan) to reflect on themselves. Not really "dark", as we heard on the first half of 'OBAR', and even for that album, there was a redemptive side to it at the end. But overall I'd say there's a good balance in Gone. Songs like Still Alive and Gone pose questions that we as believers should ask ourselves while Coming Apart sounds like a 'back-and-forth' between the Christian in tribulation and God. Even Unstoppable, although being a cover, could be a song intended to get the listener pumped up.

The theme I get from this album is...material possessions. A line from their cover song is "Is the air I breathe my only legacy....when I'm gone." Doesn't that sound like material possessions? You know what. I'll leave that thought here. I would like to read what anybody's thoughts are on this album, what you all think it means. So, until then. Sayanora!

anotherxredeemed the whole album is about our legacy and what we will leave behind when we die. If that isn’t feel lyrical content then I don’t what is. They have a lot of positive material throughout all their albums. You just need dig deeper into what the songs are about. RED has always gone below the surface and they’ve always made lyrics that mean more than they appear. The way I see it, these songs are talk about the inner struggles that we deal with on a daily basis but it takes it a step further by adding in the legacy that we leave behind. As a Christian myself, that’s an extremely deep topic to discuss and it’s a powerful message that gives me hope for the days to come. Remember, this isn’t our home. Heaven is our eternal home as Christians and we need to do what’s right while we’re here on earth now

Joe rickard hasn't been with the band since 2014 I guarantee he didn't do these drums. It was most likely Dan Johnson because he is there touring drummer right now.

Even though Joe isn't in the band anymore, he was the one who tracked these drums at a studio in Sweden between touring for In Flames.
