Reckless Kelly - Wicked Twisted Road Lyrics
My first love was a wicked twisted road
I hit the million mile mark at seventeen years old
I never saw the rainbow much less a pot of gold
yeah my first love was a wicked twisted road
I never thought I'd make it 'till I had the guts to try
and I sat up in my tower while the whole world passed me by
yeah my first love was a castle in the sky
my first love was a fearless drive in rain
scared to death I thought I'd never see her face again
they say god was crying so I guess he felt my pain
yeah my first love was a fearless drive in rain
my first love was a wild sinful night
even thought I won the battle in the end I lost the fight
yeah my first love was a wild sinful night
my first love was an angry painful song
I wanted one so bad I went and did everything wrong
a lesson in reality would come before too long
yeah my first love was an angry painful song
My first love was a wicked twisted road
I hit the million mile mark at seventeen years old
I never saw the rainbow much less a pot of gold
yeah my first love was a wicked twisted road
my first love was a wicked twisted road

Beautiful
Every verse of this song speaks to me, especially "My first love was an angry, painful song..." The "lesson in reality" always came before too long.
My favorite song.
Insanely greatest under-rated song out there. Everyone here can relate to this song from your own story and perspective .The person you just sat next to on a bus/plane/cab ride, or you passed on the the sidewalk has a million great stories hiding in them
This song tore me up earlier today....
Some of the best writing I’ve come across in years!
I wish I had heard this song when I was at least 10 years younger.
That guitar solo. Wow
For some reason that acoustic guitar is reminding me of Uncle Tupelo's "Moonshiner". The rest of the song is different. Awesome
Love these songs they actually have meaning and make you actually remember back Love it keep it up
damn 7 years
Damn I've got tears in my eyes now. I miss you girl even though you'll never realize it.
The guitar at 2.07... reminds me who I am and where I’m from...
These guys gotta keep it up. There songs are so touching and relatable. Amazing. Beyond amazing. I Love this band so much
Something about this song just touches my soul....deep
Memories of my mother who I love despite how she broke me as a person.
Heartland bow hunters got me here, really like listening to this song as I’m getting ready to head to my stand.
Lol same here!
I love you and will always love you, Emily Smith. Im sorry for everything except loving you. Ill see you in my dreams.
I remember the first time I heard this song. He'd had a bad night and we sat on the phone in silence until he mentioned this song. Sharing songs was our way of communicating what we were too afraid to say to one another. So I listened to it while he breathed into the phone and I could almost see the white forming in his knuckles when I closed my eyes.
"I wonder if I'm someone my father could be proud of."He finally spoke up. "Of course you are."I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. Seven years has come and gone since the last time I spoke to him....I hope his father told him he how proud he was when death united them again.
You described a true friend.
Crap, they wrote song about my f'd up life. Beautiful. Wouldn't do if any different. What a wonderful piece of introspection.
This song wakes up my inner twelve year old, shows him where Ive been and how Ive turned out and makes us both cry but in a good way.
Me and the wife are going to see them tonight!
Just stoppin by to say the The Lumineers stoke this chord progression in their song Nobody Knows.

My friend brought me here.
red fuckin' dirt.
Never heard of Reckless Kelly til this Labor Day weekend. Was in Finger Lakes NY wine country and 2 acoustic dudes played this tune at Hosmer winery. Been humming it ever since. Awesome!
It was Probably Tim and Jake. I'm from Finger Lakes region and they are about the only ones who play red dirt.
Damn I thought I was over her till I heard that song!
Liberty Construction forget her. Move on. Not worth your time.
man this is so sad
Great song! :)
My life in a song
Great stuff. Ray Wiley Hubbard mentioned them in a song, that's the only reason I found them.
Awesome.
H.B. ❤
Reckless Kelly is awesome. I am not sure if they have a song I don't like.
maybe my favorite song .
My first love was a wild sinful night that line just really explains things in my life
My brother wants this played at his funeral. I'm 42 and in bad shape! I've been in more than 30 vehicle accidents. I had to promise my baby bro I'd play this at his funeral! life is never what you expect it to be!
Leif Boyd dude STOP DRIVN
Austin Hammond I was driving in 3 of those accidents
Leif Boyd I lost my baby brother in a car wreck a few years ago. Same story. I feel ya. ❤
I love this band! I have been a fan for a long long time. his brother's band mickey and the motorcars are good also.
I saw Reckless Kelly at the Bull Run Tavern in Shirley Ma., on Wednesday night. This song is wicked awesome and the lyrics are so beautiful.
LOVE this song. Thank you "fella" for showing it to me. :'(

sweet song brother!
I wish i was around when you could drive a semi truck at 17 years old. i would have loved to get my million miles in at that age.
Grabs my soul, reaches in and pulls my life force. Throws onto parchment and adds chords. Hurts to hear it, but i cant stop listening to it.
after this off to seven nights in Ireland then Micky and the motorcars! #flashback2004
oh man. great shit!!!
Hey check out Mirage by Reckless Kelly cover on our page and let us know what you think, it'd mean a whole lot to us :)
I WILL FOREVER LOVE THIS SONG OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!
Damn, was this guy watching me live?
A singer songwriter has done a good job when he makes you say "I've felt that way before" or "I know what he means" or something similar. This song is so far beyond that... amazing...
Good song but the last 2 minutes are a bit slow.
damn fine song, but Chris Knights rural route is untouchable
song has so much soul, I love it... Trampled by Turtles- At your window!!!! this song is awesome
I don't even listen to country but this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Bravo sir, bravo.
red dirt country is all I listen to it pure and not show boated music from Nashville and the shit they put on the radio
check out Cody Jinks, whiskey Myers, turnpike troubadour, Sturgill Simpson, the list goes on
Karma Incarnate thats fine.this is more folk rock than anything
Same, I listen to music. Genre isn't relevant if its good.
Karma Incarnate take a listen to bands like Uncle Lucius (now disbanded) and Band of Heathens. Both are out of Texas and while RK is out of Idaho...they hang out in Austin now. We have our own brand of music down here. These band play clubs and smaller venues on the Texas Circuit. If like this, I recommend Uncle Lucius “Keep the Wolves Away” or “Taking in the View” and BoH “Judas Iscarriot Blues” or LA County Blues.
this song feels like someone cut my soul open with a boxcutter and let it spill out in the form of music
That's life. You survive it, some how. Bleeding out dazed confused and depressed. You find some way to go on, and all the trouble and pain it caused seems so insignificant, but makes all the difference for some reason.
Just found out my wife is divorcing me yesterday. This is one of the most poetic and honest things that I have ever read. Thank you.
It's my life put to song. Simple as that.
@evianalmighty
I'm sorry bro. Stay strong!
Saint Michael Archangel ... Yes...
This is the 1st song on the playlist I have put together of favorite songs to listen to while I'm riding my motorcycle.
These guys are great. Put them right along side turnpike troubadours and casey Donahew.
Not saying turnpike and casey aren't as great and talented as reckless, but reckless has a lot of songs and have deep roots in the red dirt industry, keep checking them out and you'll know what I'm talking about
I love both bands
lov it taz
love this. retired trucker. guitar picker. writer.
WOT...Wide open throttle...don't brake til ya see God...
@Bob Luty amen
@Saint Michael Archangel amen brother
Story of my life......

crazy good lyrics
WOW HOW PRETTY! YES I SAID PRETTY! :)
All time top 10
Its red dirt
He'll ya
What genre would you call this exactly?? even if it doesn't have one it's awesome. I love it.
@Buddy Shaw They're from Stanley, Idaho originally.
@Scott Dye reckless kelly travels all over the place. But they are red dirt. I was proposed to at a reckless kelly concert at gruene hall over 13 years ago by my now husband. We are long time huge fans!
@Cameron Moody they're calling this Americana man. Americana, plain and simple (although it's anything but to try to explain). Check out some other Americana artists, Jason Isbell, John Fulbright, Hannah Aldridge, Shovels and Rope, Old Crow Medicine Show. .. .. and come back and share the new stuff as you hear of it. We all want to expand this genre.
+RichRose Pandora played this Reckless Kelly song on my Michael Hinckley station, which I created after hearing his song Hang a Black Cloth. (I'm pretty sure he's posted that song to YouTube.)
It would fall under both the Texas Red Dirt and Americana genres both genres get continuously ignored by Country Radio when they play Bro Country inundating much of the time.
This song still brings a tear to my eye. This is the last song my best friend played on his guitar before he killed himself.. He was so talented.
why did he kill himself :/
No one knows man. He was troubled inside I guess. It's just odd because he was the last person you would ever think to do that. He was a star football player, great singer, really popular, heck he was even a great actor... Just be sure to tell everyone you love them and don't speak negatively. You never know what someone may be going through. We didnt.
@Copeen584 So sorry for your loss
Your friend was sick even though you didnt know it. It wasnt your fault. Hope all is well.
They are the shit for us in texas can not wait till next time RECKLESS FUCKIN KELLY
Great live act, saw them at The Grenada in Dallas.
REALLY CANT BELIEVED I MISSED THAT. HAVE BEEN THERE A BUNCH!
@Sean W wow would have loved that...as much time as ive spent in Dallas i've only been to the Grenada twice - bot times on a date w the girl this song brings to mind - lol
Saw them at Gruene on the 21st Great show, Great Hall. place was packed !!
Reckless Kelly is the best band to come along in a long time. I recently found them and am filling my ipod with all the Reckless Kelly I can find
Saw them at Gruene Hall Sat 21, 2013. Awesome band. Great fiddle player. Ooh Rah!
Fantastic fiddler. That's coming from a lifelong fiddle player.
Wish they'd write the song that would tell me when to turn to get of that road
@MAGApede Trump 2020 I was just being sarcastic about dating jerks
Jeanne Novicki I know, I thought my lame dad joke might make you smile.
@MAGApede Trump 2020 it's a cute lame dad joke thank you
My boy Travis. Come back to kville
BTW you got off that road
The boys keep churnin out better music than all of nashville combied! red dirt rules!
Braun Brothers, Heart of Idaho. Put it on CD. Need to hear some Weekend Logger Blues. Miners Exchange, Idaho City with a good old hard wood dance floor. Stanley, Idaho, I think the boys grew up to near Dirty Dorah's headin over Galena Summit
Hey Blu Scout, where's your town in Idaho??
The Braun brothers grew up in my town!
I know right! But Reckless Kelly is not from Texas. They grew up in a small town in Idaho.
these guys write real music
"Ok, replay button.. just relax... and tell me where the bad man touched you...."
Man, I am just raping the replay.
