Real Estate - Fake Blues Lyrics

Just last year seems so long
When I used to live alone
Now I sell shit on the phone
'Cause I don't wanna live at home

Uh oh

Well it's not as if I choose
To be settled with these fake blues
But your worries ain't so different from my own
Though I'm far more accident prone

People ask me for my name
But this number's just the same
If this all is just a game
I have only myself to blame

Uh oh

Well it's not as if I choose
To be settled with these fake blues
But I gotta find a reason to write this song
And I won't be here for long

Just last year seemed so long
When I used to live alone
Now sell shit on the phone
Cause I don't want to live at home

Well it's not as if I choose
To be set with these fake blues

What passes for music these days is fucking horrible! God damn, what is wrong with you kids?

  3. l.... ....

    love it!

  4. c.... ....

    the most beautiful band *-*

  5. p.... ....

The melody sounds a lot like one of Tycho's songs whose name escapes me right now.

  6. T.... ....

My personal interpretation of this song; reminds of the times where you invest a piece of yourself inside a moment. Whether it was in an experience, a space or simply a thought, or even something you idealize about occurring in future. And the only instance you can generate as method of description is: "home".

    T.... ....

interesting. I always thought it was about "1st world problems." Rather, the notion that people in first world countries don't have any real problems, or at least don't have to worry about basic survival, and so make a big deal out of nothing, or create their own problems. When Martin Courtney says ""its not as if I choose to be settled with these fake blues" it seems like he is acknowledging the fact that he hasn't had to struggle in life, like many of the famous blues musicians of the early 20th century, but he's "gotta find a reason to write this song."

Still one of the most powerful and hauntingly beautiful songs I've ever had the privilege to hear

    I.... B....

god, what a pretentious comment. i mean i'm not saying it's a bad song, but 'powerful and hauntingly beautiful'. really??

Accidentally play this song with Beach Fossils - Modern Holiday. Strangely beautiful, especially the intro

  10. S.... B....

Love this shit. Learned about it from a comment on the song That's Not Me by The Beach Boys, and this is exactly the same kind of music as that legendary piece of music that is Pet Sounds.

  11. M.... K....

    amazing song.

  12. C.... M....

The Lo-Fi sound kinda suits the laid back style. If it were a video it would be a home movie

  13. E.... S....

    haha a fat smilley

  23. J.... M....

There is a definate paradoxical genius to this band and song...they seem to combine very evocative egoless vocal with a simple yet stimulating and full wall of sound. I guess it's the antithesis of the identity driven vag in the camera culture thats more popular.

  24. K.... ....

haha...i like the two top comments, but dunna give me thumps up,perfect how it is!

  25. L.... T....

I don't really think drugs are necessarily important to the appreciation of the music. There may be a strong correlation with the creation however.
