Love reading comments about Meg's "childlike drumming technique"... yeah the White Stripes would be much more successful if Neil Peart had been there drummer. Take a clue from Ray...she was perfect compliment to Jack. He has a full band backing him up now and it is garbage. Beautiful song showing respect for a beautiful musician.

I see a bunch of misinformed posters, so I want to set the record straight: Ray is married to a woman named Sarah, with whom he has two kids. He's often stated in interviews that this is just a song; the lyrics just popped into his head while he was writing the music and it seemed to fit. To add some perspective, he wrote this around the same time Meg White was suffering from acute anxiety issues and had to cancel a number of White Stripes concerts because of it (in fact, I think pretty much all their 2007 concerts were cancelled). This isn't a dedication of love so much as one of support, and a very nice one at that. :)

Have not read ANYTHING about LaMontagne? He's one of the most earnest songwriters I've ever encountered. He's a man who abhors the spotlight. If he says he likes Meg White, then he likes Meg White. End of story.

He thinks she's swell and wrote it cause he's a fan and doesn't afraid of anything. :D

Of course, no one knows the man but himself(and even then...) , but Ray doesn't strike me as that type. he seems more like the, "FUCK! I'm inspired!! I gotta go write something!!!" And that something will be pure, and honest. When it turns out great, it ends up on the album.

The problem with Ray Lamontagne is that all his songs make you want to sing along, but you always end up feeling bad about yourself when you do. This is especially dangerous when you've got him on your "Romantic Dinner" playlist, and that special girl is over.

I'm a professional musician, I've been playing/writing music my whole life and Ray LaMontagne is one of the best song writers to come along in quite a while.

@zenben1126 not to pile on, but Meg White is a pretty big name in rock. It would be like somebody posting on a Chopin video asking "who is this Mozart guy?" As for why he'd write a song about her: he might have been gently joking about how many people had crushes on her. And I am sure there was a bit of self-promotion as well, wanting to tap into the much larger White Stripes fanbase.

I always thought it was about Meg White from the White Stripes but he also says he saw her on the big screen, and as far as I know (could be wrong) Meg White hasn't acted in anything...
