Ray LaMontagne - Meg White Lyrics

Meg White
You're alright
In fact I think you're pretty swell
Can't you tell?

Meg White
Such a pretty thing
I saw your face on the cover
Of a magazine

Someday
I'd like
To take a walk with you
maybe ride our bikes down by the seaside

Meg White
Saw you on the big screen
Old Jack was king
But you stole the scene

Meg White
Baby, you're the bomb
Old Jack is great
Don't get me wrong
but this is your song

Someday
I'd like
To take a walk with you
And talk about most anything
You'd like to talk about
And watch the sun going down
Going down

Playin' those drums is hard to do
It's true
Nobody plays them quite like you do

Meg White
You're alright
In fact I think you're pretty swell
Can't you tell?

Meg White
Such a pretty thing
Saw your face on the cover of a magazine

Someday
I'd like
To take a walk with you
Maybe ride our bikes down by the seaside
And watch the sun going down
going down

Love this song but how does it have only 500,000 views?

If you listen to this while reading 1Q84 you'd be amazed at how well it fits with the novel.

Reminds me last summer in Maine. Miss that days. Amazing music and composition.

    H.... M....

Yeah I want to bang her too

  7. M.... S....

This song is how I feel about her and how I have always felt about her. My last name will legally be White one day because of her.

  8. A.... L....

LOVE IT!!! I Googled Meg White and this came up. Never heard of this guy, but I'm feeling this.

  9. A.... Z....

Here to also say, this song is creepy. Not buying the "moral support for Meg" thing Ray. Write a song called "Sarah LaMontagne" for your wife dude.

    A.... Z....

A Z He has a song called Sarah

    A.... Z....

A Z you are not an artistic person. People write books about character that never existed or they never make. Why can't songwriters do the same?

    A.... Z....

This song was written before he was married I think

  10. C.... ....

If they ever make a movie about Meg White they already have the title song at least.

    C.... ....

    They won't .

  11. L.... P....

    beautiful!

  12. h.... ....

Love reading comments about Meg's "childlike drumming technique"... yeah the White Stripes would be much more successful if Neil Peart had been there drummer. Take a clue from Ray...she was perfect compliment to Jack. He has a full band backing him up now and it is garbage. Beautiful song showing respect for a beautiful musician.

  13. J.... E....

Love this!! I especially like the fact that he did the song in their style of music and used the same childlike drumming technique that meg did. And the lyrics are freaking adorable. <3

    J.... E....

Indeed. The rhythm in the verse is reminiscent of the White Stripes style for sure. It reminds me of the song Apple Blossom.

  14. P.... ....

A bit weird... Usually when you write a song about a girl you don't come out and just say her name. That lacks poetic style.

    P.... ....

PurpleLightning6was9 that's just like... Your opinion man

    P.... ....

What about peggy sue, jolene, suzy lee, and literally every song with a chicks name in it? It actually happens a lot lol

  15. W.... ....

    heh, shut up meg

  16. p.... ....

such a sweet gesture Ray. lucky lucky Meg!

  17. C.... ....

i dont know who is meg but this song is beautiful

    C.... ....

@Celene VT Meg is Meg White; drummer from The White Stripes

    C.... ....

    its actually me

    C.... ....

u wish; or maybe not ......

    C.... ....

    +Megan White touché!

  18. w.... b....

    FAV OF RAY TO ME

  19. M.... K....

Meg had birthday yesterday! Happy birthday Meg! <3

  20. A.... ....

I see a bunch of misinformed posters, so I want to set the record straight: Ray is married to a woman named Sarah, with whom he has two kids. He's often stated in interviews that this is just a song; the lyrics just popped into his head while he was writing the music and it seemed to fit. To add some perspective, he wrote this around the same time Meg White was suffering from acute anxiety issues and had to cancel a number of White Stripes concerts because of it (in fact, I think pretty much all their 2007 concerts were cancelled). This isn't a dedication of love so much as one of support, and a very nice one at that. :)

    A.... ....

    No, it's creepy

    A.... ....

    No, it's awesome.

    A.... ....

I think the lyrics beg to differ

  21. T.... W....

That's how I feel. "Jack is great, but this is your song."

  22. K.... ....

    meg white aint dat tight

    K.... ....

    WTF? SHE'S THE BOMB!

    K.... ....

I'd kiss her on the mouth

  23. a.... l....

    what  a proud song.

  24. T.... H....

I could definitely write a song like this about Zia McCabe.

    Hrmmm......

  25. H.... M....

This song is so sweet!! I hope meg white has heard it!

  26. N.... N....

Ray, you chubby chaser, you! ;) OK, she aint so chubby, I'm just being a jerk, haha hehe hoho. HEY! She's single again! Go get 'er Ray!

    N.... N....

    Chubby nice breasts!

  27. j.... ....

My sentiments exactly, meg is a beautiful person in every way.

  28. A.... J....

    Shut up, Meg.

  29. T.... ....

Or just about any other western on earth?

  30. T.... ....

Or just about any other western on earth?

  31. m.... ....

thanks for the info. Always wondered why my nickname from my parents was Meg. Our surname being White!!

  32. L.... M....

    obrigado pelo video - brasil

  33. a.... ....

^My bad. Whether she would have been a name with or without JW is irrelevant to her indeed being a big name in rock. ;~{>

  34. c.... ....

Have not read ANYTHING about LaMontagne? He's one of the most earnest songwriters I've ever encountered. He's a man who abhors the spotlight. If he says he likes Meg White, then he likes Meg White. End of story.

  35. M.... F....

i wonder if anyone every got meg's reaction on this song?

    M.... F....

    Marie Fischer
LaMontagne was asked during a Reddit Q&A whether Meg White ever responded to the song. He replied: "She did, it was sweet. She really liked the song and took it the way it was meant to be - as an homage to her and Jack."

  36. j.... ....

He explains it in this interview: watch?v=ZjOlmRFqRUA The explaination starts about 4:08
He thinks she's swell and wrote it cause he's a fan and doesn't afraid of anything. :D

  37. j.... ....

Of course, no one knows the man but himself(and even then...) , but Ray doesn't strike me as that type. he seems more like the, "FUCK! I'm inspired!! I gotta go write something!!!" And that something will be pure, and honest. When it turns out great, it ends up on the album.
I feel about Ray the way he feels about meg white....cept moar.

  38. c.... ....

ahhhhh that massive drum fill around 1:10.... makes me smile whenever I hear it. Gorgeous!

  39. A.... ....

Is it just me or does 0:51 sound like Diskette from Hackers?

  40. B.... ....

The problem with Ray Lamontagne is that all his songs make you want to sing along, but you always end up feeling bad about yourself when you do. This is especially dangerous when you've got him on your "Romantic Dinner" playlist, and that special girl is over.

  41. M.... P....

I COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER RAY IS MY NEWEST FAVORITE

  42. e.... g....

This is the sweetest thing I've heard in a while:')

  43. S.... ....

That says to me that you don't realize that just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean it sucks. I've been there, but you're missing out, seriously.

I'm a professional musician, I've been playing/writing music my whole life and Ray LaMontagne is one of the best song writers to come along in quite a while.

You should be lucky you got the opportunity to hear him, maybe give it another chance and listen with an open mind. I'd recommend Beg Steal or Borrow or Home for the Summer.

  44. R.... ....

First Song I ever heard from Ray Lamontagne . " Thank you Pandora ! "

  45. f.... ....

I can't stop hearing him passionately sing about Egg Whites

  46. e.... w....

    Awww I Love Meg White <3 <3 <3 <3

  47. S.... M....

To whom it may concern, you're an idiot.

  48. J.... ....

i like how he says "Meg White" "mmeeeeg whyyyyyy-t" :]

  49. n.... ....

I know music enough to know that this is an awful song. and i was not complementing meg white on her voice. I was saying ray "whatever his last name is" sucks. and perhaps his voice is ok. in a different genre with different backup music in another time period or perhaps some parallel universe.

  50. n.... ....

I am the guy who didnt jump on the ray lamontagne band wagon.

  51. V.... B....

ray lamontagne is fucking amazing you dont know music. sorry but his soulful voice is way better then meg whites. and i grew up listening to the white stripes.

  52. e.... ....

sadly, have to agree. Kind of sad this only remotely Meg-related video is on the top of your search....

  53. p.... ....

    What a sweet song.

  54. n.... ....

i typed meg white into the search box and stumbled upon this awful awful song. she is beautiful and an amazing artist. this douchebag isnt even worthy of uttering her name. who the fuck is ray lamontagne? what kind of fucked up frenchy name is that.

  55. G.... ....

meg and Jack are devorced and both remaried. beside that the white stripes split up.

  56. 0.... ....

    Nooooooo :(

  57. 0.... ....

Question: Did he actually managed to meet Meg??

  58. Z.... W....

Meg White? Does Jack know about this song?

  59. K.... G....

If anyone didn't know that/thought it was about someone else, they're stupid because the person to whom this song is dedicated *has her name as the title*.

  60. S.... F....

I just got an email saying that there was a reply to my comment...I didn't make this comment. Awkward... Guess I'd better change my password.

  61. L.... ....

    your a lame

  62. H.... O....

Yeah, sad thing is when a harmless comment gets so many thumbs up there are gonna be haters. Internet envy, really ridiculous if you ask me.

  63. B.... ....

    youtube.com/watch?v=Uiv8CyPCfaY

    Haters >.<

  64. B.... ....

This song is hardly in the Rock genre.

  65. B.... ....

I appreciate the support :) Was just trying to be helpful to anyone out there, who like me, took a while to figure it out o.O

  66. S.... F....

Sounds like he's saying egg white. Doesn't sound so cool to be infatuated with eggs. Meringue, however, is a wonderful creation which is comprised mainly of egg white. He should sing about that instead. :)

  67. m.... ....

Nope, nobody knew that. Thank you Cap'n Obvious.

  68. G.... ....

If people don't know this song is about Meg White, then that's sad lol. If you guys are saying you didn't know who Meg White is, she's all over the suggestion box. There is even a video titled Meg White and shows a picture of her, so I understand why @ninjamojo711 is being sarcastic or a dick like someone of you said.

  69. T.... ....

The man definitely has a fine taste in women.

  70. J.... ....

    MY NAM IS MEGAN >:D

  71. N.... ....

His voice is just so haunting...

  72. H.... O....

If I hadn't checked zenben1126's comment I honestly wouldn't have understood what the song's about. So I guess I, along with many other people, make a good reason for zenben1126 to point it out. If you don't like the fact he/she got so many thumbs up you can just ignore the comment. I find it unnecessary to be so sarcastic.

  73. c.... ....

@ninjamojo711 just because you know doesn't mean other people do

  74. 9.... ....

@ninjamojo711 Gotta be a dick bout it?

  75. M.... H....

This song just inspired my new book!

  76. s.... ....

Fucking great song but is total shite that embedding is disabled.. could get millions of hits through Tumblr and any number of other sites I post on.. oh well.. I will post the live version and remove this direct link.. I suggest removing the block 'Mr. LaMontagne' and let your fans share your music.. otherwise.. well.. who is Ray LaMontagne?

    Your good friend,
    spaz

  77. X.... ....

@zenben1126 Maybe he just thinks she`s really pretty and deserves a song written about her since everyone pays attention to Jack and not her.

  78. w.... ....

@zenben1126 not to pile on, but Meg White is a pretty big name in rock. It would be like somebody posting on a Chopin video asking "who is this Mozart guy?" As for why he'd write a song about her: he might have been gently joking about how many people had crushes on her. And I am sure there was a bit of self-promotion as well, wanting to tap into the much larger White Stripes fanbase.

  79. B.... ....

@JustinPlaysBass97 Sure, if you know the White Stripes, which by the way is not implied by association nor required to listen to this song. I, for one, did not realize the connection for a while, and found it an interesting thought - the curious question is "why?"

Why did Ray LaMontagne write this about Meg White?

  80. J.... P....

@zenben1126 it is extremely fucking obvious who this is about...

  81. M.... ....

the beginning reminds me of a sound I've heard in a game.. Red Dead Redemption?

  82. R.... L....

i havent liked a video since i made this account really, but this....this deserves a 600th

  83. B.... ....

    @wonderboy9191
    Or more cow bell, theoretically.

    (<3 this song)

  84. J.... ....

@akkuma420yahoocom Big Screen could mean anything from a music video, world stage, or TV.

And as far as 'Jack' is concerned, who's the other member of the white stripes?

    The lines
'Playin’ those drums is hard to do
    It’s true
And nobody plays them quite like you do'

Should be a dead give away...

  85. A.... H....

Is he talking about Meg White from the White Stripes? Only reason I ask is because he continually references "Jack" in this song. I always thought it was about Meg White from the White Stripes but he also says he saw her on the big screen, and as far as I know (could be wrong) Meg White hasn't acted in anything... That i know of. Just curious. Love Ray though... a voice that comes around once in a lifetime.

  86. e.... ....

    Meg White is a fox....

  87. e.... ....

love this song because it is about the amazing meg white :)

  88. A.... ....

I adore Meg White. My boyfriend compares me to her a lot. HUGE compliment.

  89. M.... V....

@Jared7580 She is an actor, best know for her role on Fox's show Glee

  90. G.... M....

Can not get enough of his voice.

  91. J.... C....

    @robpavi1 Yup

  92. J.... C....

Who gives a damn about Dianna Agron??? The song is about Meg White retards.

  93. r.... p....

@robpavi1 yeah i wrote that comment before i listened to it all figured it out from the lyrics

  94. j.... ....

@robpavi1 yes it is. "jack is great is great, don't get my wrong but this is your song"

  95. r.... p....

is this the same meg as in white stripes....does anyone know

  96. G.... S....

@max9upgrade The title is called "Meg White" & that is what the lyrics are.

  97. R.... M....

    Check out Ransley

  98. s.... ....

@scienceatheism Look at this way, everyone is different, then a group of people being different for another reason. Because they want to be different and unique in every way possible. Hipsters are the same in that way, but their personalities aren't the same.

  99. s.... ....

@scienceatheism Hipsters are just people who choose to express themselves abnormally. They're all different and that's how they like to be. Being a Hipster isn't something just anybody can pick up and start doing. It's a personality. And it should be expressed in any way it can.

  100. P.... ....

    @scienceatheism
    ok hipster.
