Why this song makes me think that Chris de Burgh followed Gerry as his mantore.

I only recently heard this song after buying a best of Gerry Rafferty album mainly because of Baker Street and a couple pf other songs. I was only a baby when these songs were out. This is a fantastic song too and I've listened to it loads of times in last few weeks. He was a genius who sang about his struggles with drink which sadly cost him his life at a fairly young age.

So awesome to see an artist at the peak of their creativity.

The sheer warmth of this stuff is amazing. It's like an electric blanket made of rock.

This wee song and Right down the line are my favs by Gerry. Simply perfect. Obviously enjoy Baker Street and stuck in the middle but these two are different level.

Good. But Baker Street was the best selling song of 1978.I visually remember it from my trips to London in the late 70s trainspotting.

Well Jay, mate, because when you were born, it was probably another 10 years or so before you were 'musically conscious' and by that time you started to be fed , and have been since then, a musical diet of garbage. Not your fault. This is what good music sounds like and what a REAL musician(s) do. Now you have your eyes open, keep them open & start looking and seeing. You'll be fine!

This man along with Jeff Lynne are both musical genius, some great songs, and absolutely love Gerry Rafferty's voice.

This is soo good.

Was in 6th grade when this was released....nearly all of my friends were ignorant of GR and just followed the one hit wonders of the day. I knew better even at 11 I knew a good song. The album is in my top 10 all time favourites.

Why did this not hit top spot classic x

First heard this in the Summer of 1979. His follow up to Baker Street, from the following year. Night Owl peaked at #5 in the UK, while Baker Street peaked at #3. Should have been a UK #1, but it wasn't. It either Brian & Michael or the Smurfs that kept it off the top spot. Could be wrong about that and stand to be corrected:
