Rafferty, Gerry - Night Owl Lyrics

Night comes down and finds you alone
In a space and time of your own
Lost in dreams in a world full of shadows.

Down the street the neon light shines
Offering refuge and hope to the blind
You stumble in with no thought of tomorrow.

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can't say no.

Oh no no no
No no no no

The lights are low and the Muzak is loud
You watch yourself as you play to the crowd
One more face in a palace of mirrors.

One more drink, you're sailing away
One more dream but it's looking ok
One more time to watch the flow of the river.

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can't say no.

Oh no no no
No no no no no no no oooooooh

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can't say no.

Oh no no no
No no no no

You've seen it all yeah you've seen it before
Like a fool you always come back for more
You live your life like there was no more tomorrow.

Night comes down and finds you alone
In a space and time of your own
Lost in dreams in a world full of shadows.

Yes, I get a little lonely when the sun gets low
And I end looking for somewhere to go
Yes, I should know better but I can't say no.

Oh no no no
Oh no no no
No no no no
No no no no
No no
No no
Oooooooooooh

    100% Gerry

  3. T.... C....

SOME OF THE BEST MUSICIANS AND SONGWRITERS( lyrics)HAVE COME OUT OF SCOTLAND. ISN'T IT FUNNY THAT THE BEST ROCK BANDS ON EARTH HAVE ALL CAME FROM THE GREAT BRITISH ISLANDS ...WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ODD FEW COMING FROM USA AND OZ .. I HAVEN'T HEARD MANY GREAT ROCK BANDS COMING OUT OF RUSSIA OR IRAN OR EVEN JAPAN ...IN TERMS OF ROCK AN ROLL .AS JIM MORRISON SAID " THE WEST IS THE BEST ". do we agree listeners....

  4. i.... ....

"...offering refuge and hope to the blind..." That's a damn good line.

  5. J.... M....

Why this song makes me think that Chris de Burgh followed Gerry as his mantore.

  6. A.... T....

Was the entire band on valium? Such a morbid listless video.

  7. d.... ....

I only recently heard this song after buying a best of Gerry Rafferty album mainly because of Baker Street and a couple pf other songs. I was only a baby when these songs were out. This is a fantastic song too and I've listened to it loads of times in last few weeks. He was a genius who sang about his struggles with drink which sadly cost him his life at a fairly young age.

  8. B.... M....

So awesome to see an artist at the peak of their creativity.

  9. T.... B....

    This Is music.

  10. S.... D....

I put this along with Right next time on our pub juke box and everyone loves it.

  11. A.... M....

The sheer warmth of this stuff is amazing. It's like an electric blanket made of rock.

  12. p.... h....

Timeless, soundtrack to my teenage years,RIP sorely missed.

  13. I.... T....

How Ed Sheeran must wish he could write lyrics half as good as this.

  14. B.... D....

    He's was Celtic fan 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

  15. A.... S....

Beautiful music. it was a wonderful time to be a 10 yr old . The music is timeless. Shame my body isnt as energetic and vibrant as the music any more.

  16. j.... d....

  17. W.... M....

Fuck You... I like this. Fuck you, I'll find you!

  23. c.... T....

This wee song and Right down the line are my favs by Gerry. Simply perfect. Obviously enjoy Baker Street and stuck in the middle but these two are different level.

  24. O.... T....

Good. But Baker Street was the best selling song of 1978.I visually remember it from my trips to London in the late 70s trainspotting.

  25. M.... ....

    Where’s melody gone today? 😔

    M.... ....

Marcdoubleu22LFC remains captive in the 70s😉

    M.... ....

boofuls sure has, the 70s were wonderful times to be a kid growing up, only downside is being 52yrs old now lol.

  26. T.... C....

SO GLAD THAT BY THE GRACE OF GOD SOMEONE HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND TO RECORD VIDEO OF THE CHIPPING NORTON SESSIONS OF GERRY AN THE LADS

  28. j.... r....

I’m 38 and How have I only just heard this in Nov 2019?! Beautiful song

    j.... r....

Ur kidding me ...... Gerry was a genius ..... R.I.P Gerry.

    j.... r....

Well Jay, mate, because when you were born, it was probably another 10 years or so before you were 'musically conscious' and by that time you started to be fed , and have been since then, a musical diet of garbage. Not your fault. This is what good music sounds like and what a REAL musician(s) do. Now you have your eyes open, keep them open & start looking and seeing. You'll be fine!

  29. J.... J....

I think Gerry suffered from insomnia. I look for somewhere else to go myself.

  30. c.... s....

Why don't radio stations play this instead of the same stuff over, and, over, and over... Would it be because radio is a lame sell out to corporate BS?

  31. R.... W....

This man along with Jeff Lynne are both musical genius, some great songs, and absolutely love Gerry Rafferty's voice.

  32. C.... M....

Who's the guitarist in this with the Tele? Always thought the GTR solo in Baker street was better than the Sax. Credit Sir.

  33. B.... 1....

I miss good music like this what talent
    -

  34. D.... S....

Was in 6th grade when this was released....nearly all of my friends were ignorant of GR and just followed the one hit wonders of the day. I knew better even at 11 I knew a good song. The album is in my top 10 all time favourites.

  39. P.... D....

  44. S.... ....

you could tell by his posture the guy had issues.........JUST LIKE Thin Lizzy, The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ETC.....

  45. M.... W....

    This is about me.

  46. P.... H....

    Incredible talent Gerry was

  47. K.... L....

The pitfalls of trying to make it in the big city, any city.

  48. A.... ....

Brilliant singer. I would have liked Roy Orbison sing Gerrys songs.

  49. S.... T....

All makes sense when you were he comes from, this song is top drawer

  53. M.... R....

Gerry,Who's that Twat playing the Recorder??

    M.... R....

Rafael ravenscroft, top twat on the sax (Baker Street)

  54. e.... s....

rafferty [by choice] kept himself out of the limelight (under the radar).. but he is nevertheless deserving of being at the top table for the breadth/depth of his talent.

  55. L.... L....

Gerry should be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. RIP my friend. God Bless You. Linda

  56. g.... d....

Why did this not hit top spot classic x

  57. T.... Q....

First heard this in the Summer of 1979. His follow up to Baker Street, from the following year. Night Owl peaked at #5 in the UK, while Baker Street peaked at #3. Should have been a UK #1, but it wasn't. It either Brian & Michael or the Smurfs that kept it off the top spot. Could be wrong about that and stand to be corrected:

  58. H.... B....

The unmistanial sound of a genius at work.

  59. g.... w....

    A genuine musical genius.rip.

  60. C.... W....

I love the raw, analogue sound of older music. No stupid computers interfering with their autotune. Some things need to be real instead of perfect.

  61. M.... J....

    These guys all mean it.

  62. Q.... M....

Should be indoctrinated into the hall of fame. No doubt

  63. J.... S....
