Queen Latifah - Lush Life Lyrics
I used to visit all the very gay places
Those come what may places
Where one relaxes on the axis of the wheel of life
To get the feel of life...
From jazz and cocktails.
The girls I knew had sad and sullen gray faces
With distant gay traces
That used to be there you could see where they'd been washed away
By too many through the day...
Twelve o'clock tales.
Then you came along with your siren of song
To tempt me to madness!
I thought for a while that your poignant smile was tinged with the sadness
Of a great love for me.
Ah yes! I was wrong...
Again,
I was wrong.
Life is lonely again,
And only last year everything seemed so sure.
Now life is awful again,
A troughful of hearts could only be a bore.
A week in paris will ease the bite of it,
All I care is to smile in spite of it.
I'll forget you, I will
While yet you are still burning inside my brain.
Romance is mush,
Stifling those who strive.
I'll live a lush life in some small dive...
And there I'll be, while I rot
With the rest of those whose lives are lonely, too...

I've been listening to this song for years but tonight stumbled across this video, i knew that queen could sing, but this one got me!!
Good job. Queen Latifah
Wonderful!
My favorite version of "lush Life" ever. (That's saying something)
STUNNING VOICE & BEAUTIFUL QUEEN...
This gives me the chills! So good!
Wow, had no idea she had an awesome singing voice.
Just brilliant
Do not want to be negative, but I think some folks here are in need of some serious listening homework of our Jazz masters....... Google it young bucks.
What a wonderful job Dana Lewis did singing this song Frank Sinatra tried to sing it and he gave up... just beautiful...
Beautiful and touching performance of the song! I really liked it! I subscribed to your channel! Welcome to my animation! 💖💖💖
Lush Life can't be sung by just anybody, breathtaking.
Great stuff
I worked on a stage at Disney she was doing pick ups, not social but polite . What a voice
Brilliant stuff
Special talent
All hail the QUEEN
Truly awesome! Just heard it for the first time! Gonna put it in my playlist!
my favorite version

NAILED IT!
Who is the blond?
holly hunter
great queen great voice and great song thank you very very very much.
Beautiful rendition of a great old song, sung by so many. QL (aka Dana) has a nice voice.
Interesting. I had seen the movie in a theater, and I didn't remember until now that it was abridged. What a huge mistake. There are many things to say about this great version of the tune. If she didn't have time, and intonation, and dynamics, of course I couldn't say this, but it's the apparent effortlessness that astounds me.
She nails this song bigtime!
Just beautiful
Wow! She's great and so was the arranger and musicians!
She sings it wonderfully! BUT, moment to moment that passes, you start noticing moves, aesthetical accents and intonations that take your mind away from the story of the song and bring you to the cheaper, pop, commercialized r'n'b styles of today, that Latifah moves in.. I know this comment sounds bitter.. but it's what I think today, having listened a series of wonderful (and not) covers, just today..

Queen Latifah is no jazz singer, but she did this song justice. She has her own smooth style. I'm not a fan of her acting or her talk show hosting, but I like her as a singer. Good job Queen!
I love this song. And her rendition is astonishing. Love the Queen. For so many reasons.
This is one of my two favorite versions-- the other is Johnny Hartman with Coltrane. Thanks for posting. Both make a very tough tune sing. I come back periodically to be re-amazed.
I've listened to several artists this week (as I love this piece so much) and I have to agree with you. In fact, I'd almost say Q. Latifah sounds like the female equivalent to Johnny Hartman. Lady Gaga did an admirable job in the Brussels video too. She looks stunning and has the heart for it, but doesn't quite have the depth in her voice that Q.L. and J. H. have. The modern, full arrangement of Mervyn Warren didn't do it any harm either! ;-D
Latifah is every a woman and vocal chanteuse of magna cum laude virtuosity.
The best modern jazz singer.
Love to hear a duet with either Barbara Streisen (sp) or Nnena Freelon with this Jazz Ballad.
A great voice; always needed more marketing and celebrity for an uber career across the globe.
I'm stunned! She really knocked this out of the ball park!
Love this rendition, Sing Queen!!!
This is, far and away, the best version of this song, ever.
Hearing this for the first time. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perfection.
Great song. Great movie. 😍😍
Not too much longer than the standard length. Done beautifully, but then what can be expected of Queen Latifa, aka Dana Owens.
Now to the words:. I hold this to be the warning to all women here in the 21st century. The ones susceptible to the sob stories from those you get from swashbuckling fire merchants out there looking just to get a lay, on the pretense he'll be there for her forever. Many a woman throughout millennia have been suckered with this story, being left to believe that all men are alike, and not to be trusted. Hence, the Femanazis versus the MGTOWS and the Men's Rights Movement. You wanna know who started it all? Those Corsairs looking for a lay, and the dumb women (I'm not saying they're all dumb, but how often have the smart been drowned out by the stupid in any group?) who are responsible for the entire mess, that's who, and I say let 'em clean it up. They made their beds, now they can sleep in them. I'm done. I'll just take my girlfriend to someplace peaceful. I saved one, thank God.
absolutely beautiful, discovered this in Uni 4 years ago and it still makes me smile while listening to it...Hail to the Queen :)
Hey you should listen this song from lady gaga cheek to cheek album. I bet you love it
Oh WOW!!!!!🤤😲😲😰
Great rendition. Check out the late Natalie Cole's version. It's, at least, at par.
Oh, Queen Latifah! As Jackie Gleason used to say, "Baby, you're the Greatest!"
She knocks it right out of the ballpark....
Anyone know why Latifa is morphed into another woman at the end?
What the hell...Queen Latifah should have head lined every show she has ever done, this artist is outstanding...
Wasted Life is what you are.
Yes. Her millions are just sitting in the bank wasting away. FOH, Loser.😃😃
What does FOH mean?
Fuck Outta Here...
Queen Latifa should play Ursula in the live action little mermaid remake
Nice version, but since beauty is subjective I would say that Natalie Cole's rendition has a more exquisite arrangement and her vocals truly embody the emotional ebbs and sophistication of this masterpiece.
Who needs diva? We have queen !
If there is ever a biopic of Pearl Bailey....hope Queen Latifah gets the part...
Amazing voice, loved the movie. The song also brings the great Nancy Wilson to mind.
Wonderful!!
This doesn't make any since!!!!! She SUNG this song!!! OMG!!! Her wrange is amazing!!!
I feel like we all forget this queen and how amazingly she can sing.
Right on the money.
omg I was not expecting that! brilliant!
I adore this.
OMG😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Just amazing. This song put me at ease, especially her voice. Latifah you just continue to amaze me. Love it!!!
Well done... I always like Natalie Cole's version best, but this one is solid too...and it wasn't just a copy of someone else's version... hat tip, Queen!
what key is she singing in?
Absolutely wonderful!
This is a terrific version I didn't know she could sing so beautifully.
"Just chill , women, and watch out, for I may be the one to get that woman's pussy, and none of you will touch it again" ;)
And then come out with fresh new albums, new age Latifahs".
;)
This version is a Masterpiece, I have listened to them all.
Nancy Wilson did this very well also
Strayhorn would so dig this
Bravissima
First of all Queen Latifa is here an endlessly gorgeous woman. As she sings, she effortlessly and convincingly reveals a kaleidoscope of emotions. And as they glide slowly over her lovely face, her beauty only intensifies. Her mastery of this style and level of Jazz/pop singing is revelatory. What a Dame!
I’m so happy that the Queen into such a lady of class and grace! This is a class act; beautiful voice, right key, well orchestrated. This is not the easiest piece to sing or play well; that said, she did a fabulous job with it!
Screened it again.
Absolute perfection!
Linda Ronstadt did this with Nelson Riddle band a few years back and was awesome. I love the song and anyone who can pull it off with emotion is in my book awesome!
Gaga captures the impetuous mood of a misunderstood teenager. Being gay, Strayhorn did not fit the stereotype of the "macho" jazz player, battling it out on a stage with his "AXE," challenging others to a duel. Rather, he was moody, sensitive, lonely.....and ANGRY at his situation in LIFE.
Heavens - this is sooo good.
i DID NOT KNOW SHE COULD SING. I AM SCARED AND ASHAMED I JUDGED HER.
It is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in my life, as much as the lyrics as in the melody. Initially, the first time I heard it, it was in the version of Stephen Grappelli with the Big Band by Claude Bolling ... but recently I notice, in such beautiful lyrics. What to say ... Queen Latifah, sing this piece of music, and she does it infinitely... Grégory Alfonso García Morán, MD (Desde la Dama Gris de los Andes: Santafé de Bogotá, Colombia).

I'm a gaga fan and i think Latifah's rendition is the better. I still love gaga's version
Man, she sounds perfect! Definitely prefer her singing this than that 'rap crap'.
"tempt meeee to madness" YES
