Pulp - Dishes Lyrics
I am not Jesus though I have the same initials -
I am the man who stays home and does the dishes.
& how was your day?
Is that woman still trying to do your head in?
A man told me to beware of 33.
I've got no miracles to show you.
*I'd like to make this water wine
but it's impossible.
I've got to get these dishes dry.
Ah...
I'll read a story if it helps you sleep at night.
I've got some matches if you ever need a light.
Oh I am just a man
[*Repeat]
& I'm not worried that I will never touch the stars
'cos stars belong up in heaven
& the earth is where we are.
Oh yeah.
& aren't you happy just to be alive? Anything's possible.
You've got no Cross to bear tonight. Ah
No not tonight, Ah.
No not tonight, Ah.
I am not Jesus though I have the
same initials.

Beautiful song, reminds me a very special person to me!!
This song is so heartbreaking, it's almost unbearable for me. I cry every time. It's the best example of a song describing the human condition once you're forced to realise that your youth is over and you are confronted with your broken dreams of greatness, hence you are compelled to go through life as a simple and vulnerable human being, just like everybody else does. And even love is something very different from what you used to think it was, once the mundane part of it takes inevitably over, and you can only try and do the best you can, striving to grasp fleeting sparkles of happiness.
It amazes me how Jarvis succeeded in conveying all those feeling in such a minimalist form. But then, he does that every time. Yes, he could use a more "polished" style, dropping pretentious words and metaphors, like others do, but he really doesn't need any frill.
"I'm not Jesus even though I have the same initials."
That may well just be my most favourite song lyric ever.
I think
“ If fashion is your trade, then when you’re naked I guess you must be unemployed” from Underwear is a close runner up
This is Hardcore é o melhor disco do Pulp.

soooooooo underated
I came from a cover Jeff Rosenstock made I really love both versions of this song
Same as I. Except i like Rosenstock's better. Just a huge fan of BtMI!.
@Mike Watkinson My brother first played Jeff for me on New Years Day 2017. I was hooked, saw him a couple months later. Once I completely exhausted JR's discography, I moved onto BTMI. Jesus, that dude can write some incredible music. One of my favorite lyricists of all time.. and being a directionless white dude in his 20's, Jeff helped me out a lot. His live shows are unmatched.
the line 'im not worried i'll never touch the stars, cause stars belong up in heaven, and the earth is where we are' is so fucking fantastic. Jeff sings it beautifully in his version.
superb song.
J.C.? James Connolly REST IN POWER
"I'm not Jesus, but I have the same initials".
AAAAAAAAH
When lonelyness and happines finally got togheter...
One of my all time fav songs. Timeless classic. Goosebumps and teary eye.
I'm not Jesus, though I have the same initials.
R.I.P. Johan Cruijff
Genious. always was. 17 years.
3 years on from my last comment below & still here listening to my king
Lewis Cook yet another three years listening to him by now?
Horny Alien another 4?
I get goosebumps every time Jarvis raises his voice at the end...
And I'm not worried that I will never touch the stars
'cause stars belong up in heaven
And the earth is where we are.
Love that part!
33rd birthday, thought of this song, thanks for the upload.
That was not an easy time for me
@ALittlePlayfulWorld: Obviously you've never listened to the Jeff Rosenstock cover
Obviously you've no idea what you are talking about.
Conor Stephenson Rosenstock version is amazing
Obviously you smoke crack
Only he and Johnny Cash could have sung this :P
Well and Jeff Rosenstock
Amazing, underrated song.
I wish my damn roommate would do her dishes
thumbs up if you listen to this while you wash dishes
beautiful
Yep, this song is awesome!
did you know that this sing is about smoking crack with patrick swayze back in 99 in holland, in a caravan shaped like a panda?
the guitar work is beautiful
lyrically genius....jarvis cocker is so under rated!
@loserbabysowhydontyo Youve got a point there mate. Hardcore is the morning after the night before album but is still so real it's untrue. There's perhaps less romance and much more hindsight in this album that I don't think would have happened had different class not turned them stratosphere.
i think 'hardcore' is a better album that 'different class'. 'i spy' and 'something changed' are great songs but the production values on 'hardcore' are mind-blowing
What a great song. The acoustic guitar gives me the creeps.
