actually i find this album to be lack luster. aside from a few songs. but foreal maybe its just i like the first two more albums nore there just doesnt seem to be that angst the first two held and roddy seems over done without a spark.

+James Juka I feel the same way, but I think it's just because Kezia and Fortress were such great albums, they're tough to live up to. Nonetheless, all 4 albums are good.

Scurrilous is incredible, you people are nuts. I lived through the Kezia and Fortress eras and utterly loved them, but to me Scurrilous was them reaching yet another level. I would say Volition and beyond is kind of a plateau but anyone saying they fell off is smoking crack

To all the people arguing... ADTR is post-hardcore. Post-hardcore is a less heavy version of hardcore, which came from hardcore punk, which is a heavier version of punk. So basically, ADTR is a punk band that sometimes has metal elements, but they are definitely not a metal band. PTH... I'm just listening to them for the first time, and from what I've heard, I would definitely call them a metal band. But they seem more progressive metal and not just straight up metal. There's too many genres...

It's always good to have a chip on your shoulder, and PTH have that, and I think that's what makes them so great.

I know. One day I was hanging with a few friends and a friend of mine started playing ADTR. The other guy (who doesn't really know about modern metal bands, he's more of a Led Zeppelin guy) said that ADTR and such are like the Britney Spears of metal music; shitty mainstream music worshipped by millions.

Makes me sad how small PTH is compared to ADTR even though Protest invests much more in to the music and the lyrics. But it's kinda cool that they're not so mainstream.

Tell him he is a dumbass. I listen to real REAL metal like Iron Maiden and Megadeth. PTH is the only recently formed metal band I enjoy. ADTR is not metal at all btw.

I love PTH as well but my friend (also a guitarist, not so talented though) says they suck. And all he listens to is generic mainstream metal like BMTH and ADTR, who are (in my opinion) pretty much nothing compared to PTH.

@MrWiggerdale123 I do understand what you're saying though because that riffs mechanic IS applicable in a different aspect each time they use it, but it's still the same thing. How about I write 4 songs underneath a monotonous harmony kind of like oscillations from Dream Theater, it's expansive, but only through a single pane of the infinite that create music. Them moving keys is more impressive to me than the patterns or true technical involvement of their playing.

@MrWiggerdale123 Well my friend I'd say you have low standards in musical value if you can listen to breakdowns that same monotonous and bland after the articulation is dissected. It's not appealing, and not really true to the nature of what music is if you're using a 'process' or 'something that works' if you can't release songs that sound different but you'll make an entire album sound different you're going into a process, structured method, of writing music, which is manipulation of sound

I don't think it matters if a lick like that is repeated, especially when they are writing riffs in a certain way where the scales are utilised in a way that uses every single note, generally in succession, to make the riff. For them not to repeat a lick is nigh on impossible, that'd be like asking a deathcore band to do a breakdown that didn't sound like one in the previous album.

@conformiste1 Not everything has to follow the standards of what we've come to expect in music. One thing that makes PTH stand out over other bands, other than the vocals and fast riff work, is the way the songs are structured. This was most evident on 'Kezia', where there was absolutely no verse-chorus-verse-repeat structure.

But even that is beside the point. If you honestly like the sound of the band, than there should be no problem. Forget everyone else.

@Flamungus I think you're trying to say they're too layered and mastered, I get what you're saying, but I don't think they're trying too hard, but rather they have a lot of ideas they try to fit into small windows so it does carry a cramped feeling sometimes. But yeah sometimes there is too many layers.

Man, Protest is so damn unique that people I would expect to hate them love them. A lot of my friends who love metal really like them and some of them hate on them. Same goes for a lot of emo people I know who dont like them its like dude listen to kezia theres tones of emo to be had on that cd but... in a good way

He actually encourages fans to illegally download the music because they barely make money from it. If you want to support a band, buy tickets and merch. Most of the money from album sales goes directly to the label, not the band. The world would be a better place without labels.

@5amuu I agree. Kezia was really good and I still love listening to it, but they've clearly progressed and improved as musicians and song writers. Scurrilous has a much more mature sound to it and in my opinion is their best album yet.

this album is crazy, def the most progressive and all over the place. they've elevated their songwriting to a very high level, and are just showing off with some of the parts they threw together. one of the best bands out there

@aenyxx Now wait just a sec, Kezia yes, kezia is easily the best album, but you can't say that about scurillous. One, you haven't heard the album in order, which is generally the genious of albums. Two, like in kezia and fortress they had piano symphonies between a few of their songs, not in them, so until the album comes out you may never hear the piano part of the album. Three, Jadea Kelly is back <3, which automatically puts it above fortress.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't really like where this album is going. I've only listened to this and "C'est La Vie," but I'm really underwhelmed so far. Hopefully it'll grow on me.
