Unbridled genius. His inflections and vocal accents during that breakdown give chills everytime! This is one of the most exciting anthems of all time. A clear tribute to Parliament and an Bowie-esque sound but all pure Prince!

I prefer this to the stripped down version. The musical elements are so full and stuff the track almost beyond its limits. But still, it remains intact, cohesive. The vocalizations really add to it. As for those lyrics....CRAZY! LOVE it!

I remember hearing this track for the first time thinking "DAMN! - Awesome funky collaboration between Prince and George Clinton." I was taken completely by surprise to hear Prince could get this funky. It's just too bad this track didn't get more air play. I thought it was the best song on the album.

Graffiti Bridge by Prince along with his upcoming band the New Power Generation a.k.a. N.P.G., that would later be officially his official band on the Diamonds And Pearls album in 1991. Graffiti Bridge was a okay soundtrack album and for the film of Graffiti Bridge itself in 1990. But the critics wasn't impressed. It was supposed to be a follow up to Prince's 1984 Purple Rain between Prince a.k.a. The Kid and his rival Morris Day & The Time along with Jerome. You had upcoming youngster singer Tevin Campbell to get his start in the game with the song "Round And Round" written & sung along with Prince collaborating with Tevin Campbell. I can't forget the female singer from the 70's group The Staples (Mavis Staples) with the classic soul disco song "I'll Take You There" from 1972. When Prince wrote, arranged & produced the song "Melody Cool" for Mavis Staples. George Clinton did a great job on the track "We Can Funk" on Prince's 1990 Graffiti Bridge album on providing his vocals. I can't leave out Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis from the band The Time. Who we know as the two gentlemen, who produced co-wrote, produced, arranged songs for the lovely beautiful Ms. Janet Jackson herself. This film needed better elements and probably more story lines to get the whole combo pack like Purple Rain had.

Only 6 good songs in my book- The Question Of U, Elephants & Flowers, this, Joy In Repetition (one of his greatest ever songs but really from a previous era), Thieves In The Temple and Still Would Stand All Time. 6 out of 17 is not a great strike rate it is a relatively weak and disjointed album, diluted by the other artists.

Has anyone else heard this version of this song that is from The Purple Rain Deluxe (expanded edition)? 10 minutes long so awesome!!

Love the words & the way it was sung!! & Prince ,once more, excelled at singing it!! No wonder Prince always has been & always will be the true, one & only eternal Master!! As much as I love George Clinton and this song, there are times where I love the other version without him better, the "demo" version. Without the, "I'll gladly pee in any body's cup, and when yo' cup overflows, I'll test positive then I'll pee some mo'" line, the song instantly becomes more intimate, and it even takes on a much darker tone. Depending on what mood I'm in, I might favor the demo over this one. Which I know is almost blasphemy to listen to a funk song about funk and prefer the version without George Clinton, but I've never been a dogmatic type person.

I just hear them objectively for what they are, without the personality driven narrative attached to them. Although, admittedly, that is a huge part of music and always has been, from the days of Mozart and Beethoven at least, and I'd be lying g if I said I didn't revel in this kind of thing from time to time. That's exactly how I came to love GG Allin.

But do yourself a favor; if you haven't heard the demo version, listen to it. It sounds very much like the style of the Black Album, which has been probably my favorite Prince album since I was a child, at least it was my favorite style o his even if the songs weren't my favorite, which I probably "Around the World in a Day". Anyway, check it out.

Yeah it was originally recorded in 1982/1983, then re-recorded for a 1986 release, then the original from the 80s was sent to G. Clinton and they recorded it with little involvement from Prince, then that version was sent back to Prince. And that is the version here.

They contributed a bit of additional drums, keyboards, and vocals.
