This is my favourite prefab sprouts song, bought some clothes from top man around 1985 and got a free cassette tape, had Alexei Sayle on one side doing comedy and prefab sprout singing this and I think another, and some other bands, happy times.

Fair enough.I don't know much Fall stuff,it is samey but at least they have abit of beef and would be a good crac live.i mentioned Peel coz he played Lions in my Garden and did a session but then i heard he thought PFS were lame.I think there is some objectivity,but if someone thinks Kajagoogoo are more worthy to culture than Beethoven then who's to argue.I've heard ridiculous pronouncements about Mcaloon-  even genius status.Some genius characterisitcs: universal/groundbreaking/innovative/making complicated simple/visionary/open/original/a head of time but timeless eventually ...(re Velvets (not genius level!)) This would have to apply to,say.The Beatles/ whether a person likes them or not.i would almost say that PFS music is the antithesis of the genius characteristics (non universal (appeals to a small audience)/stuck in late 80's synth land-anachronistic/contrived/pretentious...Mcaloon included an essay on BB's Smile in one of his albums! URGH! .Try Louis Phillipe (youtube track 'Diamond') for a similar vein to PFS.he was very influenced by B.Wilson as well.Bass line for King of Rock and Roll lifted from Good Vibrations and where the heart is theme similar to 'You still believe in Me (Pet Sounds).This is getting too FXXXXXX serious....!

Prefab Sprout is way better than The Smiths, and I don't mind anything what says the stupid and ridiculous musical press.

Your're right in as far as PFS are limp/lame.Although the Banshees Siouxie said PFS are 'Stepforf Wives Music' - so that would suit the alpha males!...

Holy cow, I was listening to KEXP from Seattle and they play this tune from Prefab, and I'd never heard it, I've got everything from "Swoon" to "Andromeda Heights".
In this 2012, for me, what a gift!
