Prefab Sprout - Faron Young Lyrics

Antiques!
Every other sentiment's an antique
As obsolete as warships in the Baltic
I'm driving on a straight road it never alters
And the radio serenades but doesn't falter

You offer infrared instead of sun
You offer paper spoons and bubble gum

Late sky
Like an all night radio station
Without morning
Like stumbling on Pearl Harbor
Without warning

You offer infrared instead of sun
You offer bubble gum

You give me Faron Young, four in the morning
You give me Faron Young, four in the morning
Every mother's son's romantic
Every mother's son's frantic!

Late sky...
The sunset makes a fence out of the forest
But here I am with head inside the bonnet
I've lost just what it takes to be honest

You offer infrared instead of sun
You offer bubble gum

You give me Faron Young, four in the morning
You give me Faron Young, four in the morning
Forgive me Faron Young, four in the morning
Forgive me Faron Young, four in the morning

Prefab Sprout Faron Young Comments
  1. s.... h....

    So good.

  2. T.... L....

To bring in Thomas Dolby as a producer sounds ridiculous, but it works especially on this track. I think that this album, but Prefab transcend fashion and even certain bits that were so of their time feel so right now 34 years later. If you have a great songwriter with great songs and a great band, then it'll work.

  3. K.... M....

The Vaselines ripped this song off in 1989

  4. R.... R....

    Meraviglioso! ❤

  5. R.... S....

There's at least 3 songs being played at the same time

  9. T.... ....

Incredibly skillful songwriting. Its simply amazing how someone can create something so complicated but still sounds like a perfect pop tune.

  10. P.... R....

    So many great one liners

  11. D.... O....

It used to be called TWO WHEELS GOOD. Then I heard desire and felt I had exhausted this genre. Truly the best it ever offered

  12. M.... H....

    Rockabilly

    M.... H....

    Only a million time better.

  13. K.... ....

(you offer infrared instead of sun you offer bubblegum) a reference to the usual run of the mill lady gaga type rubbish of the time that other bands were singing . Forgive me Faron Young 4 on the morning a reference to The Country singer Faron Young that Paddy liked (just my take on it I may be wrong lol) still a fab song though

  14. D.... M....

Swoon and Steve McQueen are both brilliant albums.a bit like early Aztec Camera meets Smiths yeah? and yet so unique at the same time

  20. J.... P....

I’d rather listen to four in the morning by Faron Young

  21. D.... L....

I applaud them for writing some of the most catchy, infectious, pop melodies of that era, and always with a sentimental edge. In the U.S., they never had a huge following.

    D.... L....

Diana Latzanich, they had club & radio play in Chicago, especially this tune. Best, dtf

Probably the best pop song written in the 80's.....pure genius, a melodic production masterpiece. "you offer paper spoons~and bubble gum"

    d.... ....

yep - a great album by a great band - sad they never hit it big - they one of the more under rated bands of the 1980s.....this is one of my favorites - my other favorites are: Life of Surprises, We let the stars go, One of the broken, Goodbye Lucille, Cars & Girls, Appetite, Scarlet nights, jesse james , and Moon dog and Carnival 2000

  37. G.... ....

    Album immenso!

  38. P.... F....

    todas as faixas são boas!

  39. j.... h....

this is a classic album every track a beauty ,this album never grows old , they were and are a most underrated band ,clever pop at its best

    j.... h....

Totally agree, this album is much better than many other well known 1980s pop and rock albums.

@nicholas kobusch, get a reality check man. He's writing about an American music artist; Faron Young.  Funny how most Brit artists were influenced by American genre. From rock-ability & blues (which is so prevalent in this song, if you only knew your history) to Motown. We all benefit today because of the trade between the two. Double check your arrogance before you engage your foot in mouth!

  41. m.... ....

I hope you all take an opportunity to listen to the real Faron Young. He was an amazing singer and I have to give him props for his voice, even if Country music isn't my favorite genre. And yes, there is actually a song he sang called "Four in the Morning".

  42. M.... V....

Wow! Haven't heard this song in a long time! KROQ classic! Thomas Dolby rules!

  43. a.... ....

Gold from our backstory..and yeah fresh as a daisy.. yea-ha!

  44. J.... T....

Enjoy how my comments go off onto pdf's. Brits are best songwriters and lyricists and actors, period. These guys are living proof...

  46. M.... V....

Produced by the great Thomas Dolby, and you can tell anarl.

  47. s.... b....

i have this on lp...bought it a few mths after i left school 1985...blew me away as a 16yr old kid...hearing it at 2.12 on my friends quality speakers of the day was like "what the fk" produced by the great thomas dolby...who,s album "the flat eart" has some amazing synth sounds..which he uses on "steve mcqueen"

  48. B.... ....

I can still remember buying this in Record Exchange Camden Town 1985, rushed back to our Drama School bedsit in Crouch End and Danced, Drank, and generally did illegal things all day, Man they were great times .................

  49. T.... ....
