love this song, probably my fav powderfinger song. still remember this song being played at the old perth entertainment centre.

"the other partner" meaning the one who sings this song. One of my friend said that it does not have to be a secret love, the secret is that one partner is kind of a social misfit or not quite that, but another friend interpreted it as a secret love for if it was not there is no reason for why 'the story gone untold". But it's good that the song has different meaning to different people.

Another narrative or interpretation is that the other partner was chasing after thrills and was not ready to settle down yet.

It's about a secret love. One partner shines but socially misfit. The other chased after glory of social norms and asked this partner to wait. One drifted away in the end.
