Plumb - Boys Don't Cry Lyrics

You sit there on the couch
Sipping your scotch and ice
You turn the TV on
And tune me out again

So what would you say to me
If you could talk to me
You could ask anything
I wouldn't lie
But you're okay with this
Damaging awkwardness
So I'll just play it safe
And keep it inside
'Cause boys don't cry

I used to hold your hand
So tight there was no question
But now even when you're near
I've never felt so alone

So what would you say to me
If you could talk to me
You could ask anything

I wouldn't lie
But you're okay with this
Damaging awkwardness
So I'll just play it safe
And keep it inside
'Cause boys don't cry

If you just stand beside me
I'll keep you in my life
Tell me how much you love me
And I'll be just fine
Don't be afraid of me

So what would you say to me
If you could talk to me
You could ask anything
I wouldn't lie
But you're okay with this
Damaging awkwardness
So I'll just play it safe
And keep it inside
'Cause boys don't cry

I love this song so much 😊

  13. M.... ....

Seriously? This video is about loss, about trying to hang on. You Amerachrist's (miss spell intended) are not worth His blood. You claim Him but show no mercy, no love, no compassion. He does not know you. Be afraid, for the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirt. You claim you know Christ but have no Christ in your life. You hate, judge, damn, think you can choose and know with out a douibt who should lead you. Would SOLOMAN do the things he has done???? you are blind to hate, and you deserver your fait. I am talking to YOU America. He knows you not.

  14. T.... J....

Tiffany has a beautiful face and voice

  15. V.... S....

This video is exactly what I pictured in my mind listening way before seeing this. Been here once. I can relate. Sometimes the magic goes away.

  16. J.... E....

awesome song. brings a lot of memories. Plumb Rocks! :D

  17. g.... r....

    straight to the point

  18. R.... m....

    shes smooth

  19. A.... D....

I miss this band back in the 90's..

    A.... D....

    Plumb is still around :)

    A.... D....

    It's not a 90s song...

  20. f.... ....

Everyone interprets a song a little differently. For me this song is much more powerful by not watching the video and listening to the lyrics as if they are all from the man's point of view. Just make more sense to me. Give it a try.

    f.... ....

+firstmusic00 You're right - I think that makes the song even sadder.

  21. B.... E....

anyone else think the video came from the late 80s or early 90s?

  22. C.... a....

Not like girls at least .... I don't think they do

  23. C.... a....

    Boys never. Cry

    C.... a....

+Bryan Edwards I was wrong I'm sorry boys do cry but there's boys who like to make girls cry

    C.... a....

i see what you are saying, but everyone needs to cry

    C.... a....

+Bryan Edwards I'm sorry I know Your right ... I actually didn't mean it I was sad when I was listening to this but it's true everyone cries I'm sorry

    C.... a....

you dont need to apologize so much i understand and i probably could have just said i understand eralier

    C.... a....

+Beauty and the Beast Boys cry alone...men cry with the ones they love, and sometimes they refuse to because they're afraid to scare/alarm them. Boys get hurt, and we're supposed to act like we 'like ' it...lol What type of guy actually likes getting hit who hasn't drunk the training manual of manhood's bleach till his brain began to fail?

Little secret: the boy that says 'he doesn't cry' is the one that usually hurts the most.

  24. L.... S....

my love story at this very momment

  25. S.... C....

What a song! Clearly one of the top well written Rock songs. The power/drive of this gem never sounds dull as the years pass by. One of my favorites.

  26. J.... N....

Jesus has a humble and lowly heart!

  27. B.... W....

I see many people sayin they don't understand the video. To me it looks like the man is struggling to deal with a wealth of issues. He doesn't know how to express what he is feeling so he has chosen to withdraw from his wife and his kid and hide in the numbness of a drunken stupor. He is using alcohol to cope with life. His wife is trying to get his attention in the flashes of him and her cuddling. Those are flashbacks to a time when their love was strong before he turned to booze for answers. The boy is their son and really needs his Dad because he is becoming a man and has nobody to give him a solid example of the kind of man he should be. He is also being neglected by his Mother because she is so distracted by her need to fix Dad's issue. I hope this helps. Just a side note: The son went to a Christian concert and there is a suggestion that he is searching for the missing piece to his life there also.

    B.... W....

@Brian Woodson Maybe your "dead on." Some people don't want to leave, don't want to stay - just "stuck." "Say something, write a letter, try to convey something so everything isn't lost..."

    B.... W....

@Brian Woodson and this video was her expressing her side with a amazing voice

    B.... W....

yo how did you understand and know this stuffs?.. an unexperienced man cant explain things like this!.. seems like youve been through some such things t0o.. exactly you just explained myself..

    B.... W....

@ekielr jayme You don't have to go through those problems to understand it. It's called psychology my friend I have a natural gift for psychology myself.

    B.... W....

as the title says 'boys dont cry' implies natural male ego based personality regardless of social status. Its like saying boys will be boys

  28. A.... R....

Beautiful and amazingly deep song but I couldn't help but wondering if maybe boys not crying is a major contributor to males having almost double the suicide rate of females

    A.... R....

+Aaron Reichert I think that your last comment is actually what the song is about. The Father figure in it is acting according to the old saying 'boys don't cry' but what the video is showing, and the song is hoping will happen is that, he will finally break free of tradition and allow himself to feel the emotions and cry if he needs to. His wife in the song and video longs to be close to him and support him, but he has closed himself off from both her and their son. The small part of the video when we see the sprinkler is turned on shows that life would be better if they opened up their emotions and allowed themselves to cry. The sad thing is, the video shows the son learning to close up from his father, yet I think the video hopes for change.

    A.... R....

It also has to do with the fact the men are more likely to choose the more lethal ways to kill themselves (Guns, Hanging, Etc) Obviously girls do to at times but it's far more likely a man will do so. Which is why they are more successful. If you look at attempts, where people try to kill themselves (Successfully or not) girls actually attempt twice as much as men do, but since they use "less" lethal ways of doing so (Usually cutting, or pills), they aren't as likely to be successful.

    A.... R....

@Irulan girls just do suicide attempts for attention, they know it wont kill them. Boys actually commit suicide, no attention seeking.

  29. s.... g....

Love this band ever!!! so strong lyrics

  30. W.... ....

Sounds cheesy but this girl I really loved, but I only knew through Tumblr recently declared she doesn't love anyone. I really like this song. Thank you :) Thank you a lot

  31. E.... T....

    really really love this song..

  32. D.... V....

I'm in LOVE!!!! This song is so beautiful, I have literally been listening to it all week on repeat!

    D.... V....

Me too! Why is it so hard for us to "get it". Some like flashy, and some like "close to the heart". Me, I like this.

  33. s.... ....

I love this song but I noticed that many of her videos are like "transliterations" of the lyrics. I wish they could give her a more evocative, profoundly artistic visualization of the songs.

    s.... ....

I don't understand what's going on with the kid in the weird net vest thing. Is he supposed to be the couple's son?

  34. N.... F....

I used to play this song on repeat some years back! still awesome

  35. A.... C....

I just stumbled upon Plumb today and I gotta say she's one of the most underrated singers EVER @.@ Such beautiful tunes!!

  36. K.... B....

Boys don't cry, but men do.

  37. b.... c....

The husband/wife segment to me is powerful and pretty clear. But I was also a little confused about the teenager segment initially, but the more I thought about it I believe it is about a young person who is also struggling with something and his parents are not acknowledging his pain.

  38. j.... q....

it means so deep, my mom wants me to listen this after my dad passed away. i thought she was joking cos' its not the type of song that im into, the truth is that she saw me crying for the first time and after that i smile but i never cry again hehehe i miss my dad...

  39. B.... A....

    Crying man here....
    I Miss You AmandaLynn...
    Please come back to me...

  40. b.... c....

I hope your parents are supportive or willing to understand. Let them ask any question & don't dismiss them, even if you are uncomfortable or annoyed. My mother's questions & my respectful response helped her a lot, she was an incredible support. She asked me what I was thinking when I said I liked a country music love song. I asked her what she meant, she said its about a man & a woman,my reply was it was about love. She nodded, smiled and thanked me. I loved her so much and miss her.

  41. J.... ....

This song means so much to me. After I came out and told my parents I was gay, this song really described the way I felt & helped me to deal with everything that was going on in my life at the time. Plumb and her music are so amazing, words can do no justice.

  42. C.... S....

I think you see the husband and wife aren't really connected in their relationship anymore and the kid is caught in the crossfire. He's confused about the situation as evidenced by his outfit looking like a conglomeration of both the parent's outfits. The water at the end is probably symbolically washing away all that negativity and he's able to be himself. I have no idea if I go that right but I think I took a good stab at it...

  43. S.... W....

I'm trying to understand the video. Can someone help me here? I'm missing something, but I love the song.

  44. D.... ....

can't stop listening to this song

  45. D.... ....

    sad song

  46. a.... a....

"so what would you say to me, you could ask anything, i woulnt lie. But your okay with this damaging awkwardness and keep it inside."

  47. b.... c....

Wow! I am in tears, the lyrics are really hitting home for me now. The part of the song about we used to hold hands so tight with no question and now you're so near and I have never felt so alone.
