PJ Harvey - The Nightingale Lyrics

I have heard the sound of your call
I have chosen your path
I joined your caravan
We called you the nightingale

I remember how excited we were
The best of life lay ahead for us
We marched on, wrapped in your song
For you I gave my five-year-old son

I felt him behind me
I felt him helping me
Every one of us will go to Paradise
He sang to the soldiers day and night
We called him the nightingale
Get ready, get ready, get ready

Heads on top of sticks were angels around me
Heads on top of sticks became angels around me
Heads on top of sticks, crashed veins, angels around me
Heads on top of sticks were like angels around me

no problem, i posted them because for some reason nobody else was.

Thank you again for posting this and "The Guns..". She is an epic talent and I appreciate you posting these. Thank you so much.

I think that having this song closing the album with the "reprise" of All and everyone's saxophone part is a beautiful ending, better than ending with either The colour of the earth (that I don't feel is a good closing song), or Guns (is it The big guns or just the guns in the end?)

I really like the sudden change of tempo half way through the song.

Thanks for posting this. Gone to Amazon & bought the download.
    Shame no CD version.

    words fail me

@zemonsta I think you're right. I remember the first time I heard this I was disheartened because it had been relatively blatantly repeated...lol. Still love this song lots though.

I also hate that there is no physical release of this, at least as CD,..and from that, at least that I know.

@zemonsta i think it is the same saxophone bit..... i feel it was made for this song and later she uses it for "All and Everyone"

Really amazing album...love all her works, especially "Is this desire?" and "White Chalk"

Thanks for uploading these! The album is magnificent - I never dreamed there was more!

@jcavale Yes, I can see how the "Let England Shake" album was written around the time of the "White Chalk" tour... I do like that there traces of the White Chalk album in the Let England Shake album.

Beautiful. The saxophone bit at the end sounds very similar to "All & Everyone"... I wonder if there is any other relation between the two songs... will have to have a re-listen. "Let England Shake" is one of Polly's better albums in my opinion (but I think I'll always like "Is This Desire?" best).

I fucking hate i-tunes...I'll be ripping this. I generally hate mp3s, they're the most volatile media, as I have lost many songs due to computer fuck ups ie crashes and what not. CDs are cool, but how many do you find skip after a while (even if you've kept them spick and span!?) For longevity, BUY VINYL!!! They definitely seem to last the longest.
PJ in London at the weekend was excellent by the way... =OD

    @VonMetterling

Big Guns is the B-side to Murder. I don't think it was a second bonus song. But now that I think about it, that might actually be worse.

    Awesomeness

  17. B.... F....

Ah! Where can I get this song?! It wasn't on the version of Let England Shake that I got!

  18. j.... ....

I so love it! Reminds me of White Chalk sound...
