Pitney, Mo - Country Lyrics

Have you ever picked guitar on your front porch
In the morning as the sun was rising?
Or followed your dog down to the river
And ran into an ole’ baptizing?
Do you think to pull off on the side of the road
When that big black hearse is passing?
Have you ever helped someone in need
Without them even asking?
We do that in the country
Let me tell you about country

Country can be in the middle of a city
Country can be on a farm
Country ain’t even a place on the map
It’s a place in your heart

Would you ever hitch a ride to Music City
Just to see an Opry show?
Would you drive across the country
Just to listen to some country?

Country can be in the middle of a city
Country can be in a barn
Country ain’t even a place on the map
It’s a place in your heart

Have you ever been there at the courthouse square
For the parade on the Fourth of July?
With a tear on your face, and a lump in your throat
As you watch ole’ glory go by
Or sat through a service where they played taps
For a soldier who never came home?
Or looked in the sad brown eyes of his momma
As she touched his name on that stone?
He fought for his country
And died for his country
Yeah, I love my country

Let me tell you about country

  18. Jason Hirschey

So many country songs aren’t country songs - thanks for the help with the title. I like the throw back to ubiquity. Nashville is like a nervous, guilty divorced dad. We long for back story but only lie to our selves. We get it Nashville. Do you?

  19. justess martin

Absolutely brilliant! There may be Hope for Country yet! Hope his other songs are half as good as this one! Never heard of him but I'll be looking out for more!

The lyrics just dont match up to the caliber of his voice! Its the 2nd song (after "Boy and a Girl Thing") that i felt so.

Along with Kacey Musgraves and Maddie & Tae, Mo Pitney is one of country music's best young stars. I pray that he does NOT venture into the crappy "bro country" trend.

What she say? I think she doth protest too much. Let me try to help. We like him. A lot! Whatever he's doing is really, really great. It's THE SOUND we all search for. I think he sings the oldies better than anyone EVER has. And he writes damn good too. He's up there with the very best of them and I hope he stays around for a long, long time.

    Len D

@***** Why all the screaming with the CAPS? You're splitting hairs. Call it it pop, contemporary or anything you want but what's being played on national country radio today isn't anything close to country music. Yes all music transforms over time. I sang and played country music in the 80's and 90's that didn't sound like country of the 70's or the 60's and that's fine. The difference though through all of those years there was still a good mix of traditional country artists and music being played with the contemporary country. All Country music fans could turn the radio on and hear something they liked. Today anyone who enjoys more traditional country music and there are many, have been completely ignored by the country music industry. Great new artists like this Mo Pitney kid get almost no AirPlay at all. This is a great country song but it never cracked the top 20 as a single because most people never even got to hear it. The best thing to happen to country music recently was Chris Stapleton. Him winning all of those awards when most people never even heard of him before sent a clear message that people are getting tired of hearing all of this cookie cutter so called country music that all sounds the same. The day George Strait and Alan Jackson finally stop releasing new music will be the day real country music officially dies. Until then it's limping along on it's last leg.

  84. Joyce Fornero

I just got familiar with Mo.. Love this boy! all his music...
