Pitney, Gene - Somewhere In The Country Lyrics

Nobody wants her she's nobody's child
Nobody seems to care
Isn't it funny now that she needs someone
There's nobody there

Mum and Dad have it all arranged
She's leaving on the morning train
For Aunt Nora's house (so sad)
Somewhere in the Country

The morning paper social page
Declined to take a stand
On Aunt Nora's house
Somewhere in the Country

She was a quiet girl
I really didn't know her that well
She was a friendly girl
I heard that but I'm not one to tell
Such a shame, who's to blame?
It's so sad

Doesn't Daddy care at all?
Can he hear baby cry?
At Aunt Nora's house
Somewhere in the Country

She was an only child
But it was always hits they gave
She was a lonely child
But love was all the poor girl craved
Such a shame, who's to blame?

It's so sad (sad)
Somewhere in the Country
It's so sad (sad)
Somewhere in the Country

(So sad) Nobody's child
Somewhere in the country

Beautiful song. Gene at his best. I knew a poor rich girl when I was in the Army. She got a package from her parents with fancy things in and broke down. She didn't want things. She wanted their love but never got it. This song says it all.

  27. M.... ....

Wonderful talent, unique voice. We had never seen his like before and, I suspect, we never will again. Thanks for posting.

  33. s.... ....

Did he do this at the same time he sang "She's a Heartbreaker"? It seemes like EVERYONE made an appearance on "Beat Club"...

  34. J.... M....

    The words are not correct:
" It was always GIFTS they gave"...
NOT "hits". This changes the meaning of the song quite a bit. Thanks to subscriber

You was the right the first time around, in those days the newspaper socail page was important within a commuinity. And as he said they declined to take a stand (he meant the communtity, town). Sadly this happened alot in those days.
