Everybody likes something different, and everybody hears something different, but for ME, this jam instantly went right to the top of my "go-to" jams of all time list. They are so hooked up, it's telepathic. As a musician, perhaps I geek out the nuances more than I should - but the interplay between Page and Trey in this jam gives me goose-bumps and makes me whisper "Jesus" to myself. True story - it just happened again. I don't judge jams by how long they are, or how many bombs Mike drops.... I judge them by how hooked up they all are, together on the same page, during an improvisational excursion. There may be tighter, more hooked-up jams out there, but I haven't heard any that blatantly top this one....and I think I've heard most of them. If you tend to dismiss "It's Ice" as "worked" song, as opposed to a jam launch pad (which would be almost understandable), DO NOT dismiss this one.

exactly my view on jams too, I'm sure you know of the 2012 long beach rock and roll, that's another one with tons of communication, these jams are like religious experiences. They're just as good listeners as they are players

This was a sick jam...keep up the originals and tight but interesting explorations. Please stop playing horrendous covers just for the sake of rarity that are diluting the quality of shows in the late 3.0 era. "Sweet Jane" was scary bad as the encore for an otherwise solid show.

i think they played sweet jane (which isnt a rare cover) to fit the velvet theme for that show. i haven't listened to it so can't comment on whether it was botched or not, but they have delivered some epic versions of that song

something about the way the overdrive breaks up when his guitar volume is down rubs me the wrong way, kinda sounds like a fender deville's overdrive channel with a bad preamp tube.

It's Ice is consistently one of my favorite Phish songs. Paints a wonderful schizophrenic picture.

Mike says it's the most challenging of their tunes for him. He's going from slap to pick to fingers to taps to harmonics to lots of open space... Entire second verse- baseline is a harmony of the first... The list goes on. True craftsmen.

After I first starting seeing Phish in '92, I for some reason disliked this song, perhaps because it seemed to follow me and get played at every show I attended. It was only years later I realized what a beautifully complex piece of music it is. And this might be my favorite version.
