I dont really know about any subgenre they've played on, but IMO, generally its metalcore.

Most metalcore is melodic tbh. It's when you start wandering over to hardcore that melodic becomes less common. But there are exceptions. Easiest way to tell is to listen for chord progressions.

man, this band is soooo goood. a bit overproduced for my taste, but still better then most other bands in the genre. One of the very few metalcore bands I can listen to ;)

I am fine with that. yeah i think most metalcore bands are overproduced. but phinehas is not a very overproduced band for this genre. but still a bit too much, and I am a fan of overproduced songs, kind of ;) but the problem is the it often sounds so different live. just my opinion, man ;)
