Pharcyde, The - Emerald Butterfly Lyrics
[People singing:]
Bah dah bha bha bha bha bha
Bha ba da da da bhum bha bha
[x2]
You see the moon has a with young idle eyes
And idle time is the playground
Where old profesions lay down
Like sweet sugar stays brown and on the mind
Gals whose whispers blow through tender lips like wind chimes
They tingle quiet ears with seductive words that I lust
And enjoy, for y'all fly boys that look and not touch
It ain't much but bet your dollars
Cause they hollar
With out saying a thang
And I'm fond of het intent
Rock hard and she was skin flint
Working on a flame
It seemed like every move she made was some good assed game
I had to keep my focus tame
Cause it's a dumb dumb shame
To see them endless
And frendless
Will us when the pride feels great
Congnac watered down to it's last tender state
And emeraled butterfly dissapears from the skies
It seems the moon can't fight the sunrise
[Chorus:]
Feeling high, I'm the emerald butterfly [x4]
[Slim Kid Tre':]
I was the mack of all time blowing their mind
In a world of fantasies when I'm casting my line
They would bite the bait and I would keep my ship sailing
On my crusading others would be out wating
In the water (water), more entising than the farmers daughter
As the imagination makes you wetter than her order
Though sweated her so tough, so rough out here
See you can't jump into the mix unless you chose to lose a hair
More nocturnal than the knight itself the mysteries clear
Smears of venom all of oil denim smoth as cashmere
Stear in thoughts of feather beds and lightheadedness
Abyss it gets deeper (you know) so be a light sleeper (sleeper)
The grief is like autumn rain (autumn) washing your needs away
Now all this gold is what I need to say about glitter...
[Chorus x2]

CHORUS (X2)
Slim Kid Tre... had some serious poetic lyrics. A lot of lyrical fanatics don't even realize how good he was in the 90's and so forth. Thanx for posting this, good to see that you knew 😉🙏🏿👊🏿👍🏿
This album is in my DNA ❤️
this song is a definition of chill
Beautiful!
I love this song 😀😀
Ty so much for posting this video
Its awesome!!!
the roots - hypnotic is very similar to this not only the same sample but the same harmonies in the chorus, i guess dilla had something to do with both tracks
It was produced by slim kid and LA jay
this bout weed fam.
@Romino King you have very good intuition
@Trippze I'm g on a limb and say thanks my brother.
@Romino King was being sarcastic, as it's obviously about weed lol
It was also a B-Side On The Labcabincalifornia Album as a Bonus Track
That is correct, funny enough I took this album out for a spin the other day and its late now and I had to listen to this track
been floatin on the emerald butterfly for so long;
This song originally was only on the CD maxi single of "Runnin'"...
BIG MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!! ANYBODY NEED A BIG MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN...?
LOOOOOOOOOOL
Ah yeah The Jazzyfatnastees singing back up vocals. :o)
Wow, had to do a google search to get to the bottom of this tune. My copy of Labcabincalifornia did not have the bonus tracks on it. This is fekking rad!! Props to golden era Hip hop and the community that makes sure it won't get lost.
If he does, he certainly has to dumb himself down a lot to do it, which is a shame.
This song is simply beautiful ...
fuckin perfect
you just had to ask for it (mfkin haters!!)
I agree the best has past and the weak and empty has moved in to sell vain, weak and empty suggestive lame politics and talk.
240 hp isnt shitty..its old school
@Chocolati83,the difference between rap music and the NFL is that those guys still show mad respect to their veterans and predecessors and mention them all the time. Rap music in the mainstream however, seldom ever mentions any of the forefathers and neither do they show them any respect. For example,BET refused to play the music video for De La Soul's "Shopping Bags" because they said it didn't appeal to their targeted audience and that they weren't relevant to BET's viewers. That's messed up.
One of the only members that can carry a song by himself...
I think the issue is rap is now just like sports it's more about making money then make music. If u watch college sports there's more passion and realness when the players are doing their thing. When they go pro it's "My contract isn't big enough!" I think that the same thing in music. I'm 28, a product of the Golden Era of HipHop, when passion drove the music, not the signing bounses......peace yall
@tloutle50, so true. And what's even more insulting, people nowadays call someone like Lil' B (who is a terrible rapper) the best ever. And then you wonder why people have such a negative stereotype about rap music! They put those rappers with not nearly as much talent as someone like The Pharcyde on front street earning millions, while these guys are steadily pushed aside and collect dust on the back shelves of rap music history. But then if we say something about it, we're "haters".
i love it when music is a time capsule, like when you listen to a song you were addicted to back in the day, and all you feel is nostalgia
Easily one of the best rap groups of all time.
@magillazmygorilla,,,this was smooth, and different; these guys were unique...thank you for this soulful post....bless you!!
Where is this today? Cause all i'm hearing is fake ass fools tbh.
Are they still all alive?
Neil Buckman yes but they broke up

Great piece..
This is so artful.
J Dilla forever...
@silumtao I remember at the age of 15 going on 16 in 96, the sky provided a grey malinchony atmosphere with a hint of a rainy grey through out the day, as I'm on my way home from an 8 hour shift at Wendy's. Austin Tx was the city, 11pm was the clock,"The House Of Fat Beats" was the sesssion per 91.7KVRX(co-op station: UT Campus) with hosts: Kerrie & Lez......Yeah............they provided.. THANK GOD.
the reason why i love these guys cause they are all rough, rugged and rough! no bling, just all natural!....missin that and the music!
I love Pharcyde when they do serious hip hop classics like this. Runnin' is another example. Does anyone know any other Pharcyde songs that are similar?
J4m3z1 Hey You

Pharcyde is amazing...
@magillazmygorilla what cd is this on? i need this one on my ipod
The songs kinda low! No problem ill Raise the volume
true hip hop. i wish more people had an appreciation for it. I swear if people don't start making better hip hop, i'm gonna go crazy. lol
@19viECh81 exactly. hopefully it doesn't die out
and everybody know's wtf real hip hop is
@KingofDutch just what i did today
@KathyRockzUrSockz u just speak from my Mind...
This shit brings back so good memories...and more important, a feel of what HipHop was all about. Since Years i am no longer up to date to what comes out. Cause it mostly all sucks. Im still glad, cause i know if i ever have kids, they and their M8s will ask me: 'what is this kool shit u listenin to?'
And thats how HipHop will live on...
Best Hip-Hop group ever.
PHarcyde is the best because the songs arent the same formulated lyrics and beats like other groups
goddamn.wat happend to hip hop.this makes me sad listening to wat hip hop used to be. to bad the younger generations are all being brainwashed by some bullshit commercial music
DIS IS WAY 2 DOPE
I can't believe they never made an actual video for this song. Behind 'Drop", this was the 2nd best song on the CD.
I can't believe they never made a video for this.
Yeah your right. Forgot that Tre did some beats. He produced some tracks on that "Fresh Produce" cd. LA Jayhad tracks too.

no
theres some vids of their new music already bro
the legends are back
They were on tour with the whole Rock The Bells thing. They're back together and working on a new album.
You can't find classics like this anymore! good upload! Also the roots flipped this joint to make "The hypnotic", an equally intoxicating joint!
where the fuck are they?
this track is intoxicating
This song is beast, i love it!
Actually, it was on the "B" side on the "Runnin" cd single.
I my eyes (or ears) this song is their best one.
I got you fam. It's up right now.
Say, magillazmygorilla, if you could find the Angel version to "Otha' Fish", I shol' am will prociate(appreceiat) ya.. And as far as below; CRC281, stop eatin' kats up like dat, LOL!!
no worries, i will someday, as will you... hahahaha
please die please
dude, you must be retarded... i could care less how you spelled "labcabincalifornia"; that's not my point. i originally wanted to know what album this song (emerald butterfly) was on, and since i already have bizarre ride, labcabincalifornia, plain rap, and humboldt beginnings, i knew it wasn't on any of those... and btw, thanks to buhbomp for actually answering my question.
I was trying help, I was the only one to respond to your question, I mispelled the album's name( which really not a mistake worth 'owning up to') and then you responded in what seemed to be an unecessary manner, so i did the same. Also if you found out what the album was called eventually, why didn't you just do that in the first place?
Don't over feel yourself, don't let your mum down, improve your life.
and that comment is intended for lafairweath3
no need for sarcasm... just own up to your mistakes, its whatever
thanks for the correction, pat on the back, standing ovation for you
no, its not on labcabincalifornia.
labcalifornia
classic song, this came out and questlove was obsessed with it and had the beat on loop and decided to do his own take on it with the roots which became 'the hypnotic'. he talks about this somewhere, i think on one of his myspace blogs.
Sounds like the roots "hypnotic". Im not sure if the roots sampled this or the pharcyde sampled the roots.
wait, what album was this on? cuz it sure as hell wasn't on bizarre ride...
whats the sample on this?
ight then cool breeze. Don't matter to me either way cuz both them joints hot lol
aint nothin to it...
Emrald butterfly came out first.
