Petra - Seen And Not Heard Lyrics
Too many black sheep in the family
Too many stones from a house of glass
They've heard the stories, they've heard the lines
But talk is to cheap to change their minds
They want to see some vital signs
Convictions- in the way we live
Convictions- not a narrative
Actions speak a little louder than words
[CHORUS]
Seen and not heard, seen and not heard
Sometimes God's children should be seen and
not heard
There's too much talk and not enough walk
Sometimes God's children should be seen and
Delayed reaction to hostilities
Brings us into reality
Cause when we answer in our defense
They can see through the false pretense
They want to see some evidence
Commitment- no more alibis
Commitment- not a compromise
Actions speak a little louder than words
[CHORUS]
Let your light so shine in all you do
With an answer near when they come to you
Don't let your mouth start talkin'
Until your feet start walkin'
[CHORUS]

A truth we need in today's world! Christians need to live out what we believe and stop barking at the world! Love conquers all!

It’s that moment when you realize now is actually one of those times. This song is actually about this song. Weird.
klasikasooo petraaa.christian foreberr
Hilarious. There is a shitty Christian version of literally everything.
Actually, this is pretty good. Rip-off, yes, but it's pretty good.
Rock you like a hurricane

I haven’t listened to this in many years

So true!!! I hear over and over and over. Again and again and again. God loves you. Or Jesus loves you!!
The question remains.
Do YOU love me!!!!
Show love instead of talking about it!!
Serve in the soup kitchen,
Clothe the naked,
House the homeless,
Feed the starving child!!!
Be love instead of saying someone else (God and Jesus) love.
does anyone know that Louie weaver is a fan of Mickey mouse????

Great music, great lyrics and funny video! I love petra songs
I Saw petra in concert when I was a Christian back in the early 90's. They put on a fantastic concert.
When I was a Christian? What happened brother?
"God gave Rock and Roll to You"...was written by Rod Argent of The Zombie's and Argent fame....Argent (Hold Your Head Up)...did it first....
Somebody lifted a KISS riff.....
The Best gospel group I've ever heard

Ótima canção.
Bob Hartman is amazing !
This song tells it like it is. "There's too much talk and not enough walk, sometimes God's children should be seen and not heard." Amen brothers, keep it real.
Now I could be wrong on this but I do remember when this album released, the story about seen and not heard using heaven's on fire riffs was that Petra and Kiss agreed to swap tunes, Kiss did a rewrite of God Gave Rock and Roll to You in the same style as the original Petra God Gave Rock and Roll to You from 1977. To me it does sound a lot like it in some ways but it also sound like Argent too. No matter, both Petra and Kiss released the songs at about the same time so it is plausible.
I'm a few months late here and, no offense intended, you are mistaken. The song "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You" was originally written/recorded by the British band Argent in 1971, several years before Petra existed. Petra recorded their version in 1977 with altered lyrics for their album "Come and Join Us". in 1991 Kiss recorded their version called "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II" for the "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" soundtrack, but it's a remake of Argent's original version and has even different lyrics.
As far as the guitar riff in "Seen And Not Heard" being similar to Kiss's "Heaven's On Fire", Bob Hartman said he had never heard the Kiss song and the similarities were coincidental. Gene Simmons reportedly heard the Petra song, admitted it sounded alike, then dropped the subject and declined to pursue legal action for any type of copyright infringement.
Hope this helps clear up any confusion.
True, you can look it up.
As much as I don't completely trust Wikipedia, I don't have access to Kiss or Petra and can't find any sources that quote either on this topic so, I'm stuck with the Wikipedia article that discusses this topic to some extent; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_Gave_Rock_and_Roll_to_You. What you find in that article is this - "In 1991, the song was notably covered by Kiss under the title "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll to You II". This version's lyrics and arrangement more closely followed the Petra version of the song." To me this article at least suggests that I am not off base regardless of what both parties may have previously stated which, again, I can not find an article of either party discussing the two songs at all. Also it's important to note that I did state this as fact but said "Now I could be wrong on this..."
Kings of Leon frontier city
no, God gave Rock n Roll to you, is not by Petra. It was a cover.Don"t know how Petra got by using that tune.on seen and not heard.
Im an atheist but i like Petra very much (mostly Schlitt era). "Beyond Belief" and "Unseen Power" are GREAT rock albums. In this song , the main riff and the chorus are a rip-off from KISS "Heaven's On Fire" but still a great tune.
Not even sure what to make of the fact that an atheist is a Petra fan. Keep listening and the rest of us will keep praying that the musics message finally encourages you to make the leap from not believing to all in believer.
@Brandon Near smh
Awesome uplifting, melodic, and catchy tune, and yes I know about the "Heavens on Fire" riff.....lol!! No matter, it's a good song:) Also is it me, or is the singer's voice similar to the singer from Helix here and there, on this particular song? Especially at 0:37 I'm a huge Helix fan as well:)
He was the singer for Head East, BC.
Someone is a kiss fan.lol heaven on fire.lol
2:22 always cracked me up.
Was that a sock or a glove or what? LOL

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but: Kiss recorded that song six years before Beyond Belief. If anyone plagiarized (and I don't think anyone did, it's a plain little rock song, no need to steal), it would be Petra.
"God Gave Rock and Roll to You" is a 1973 song by the British band Argent and covered by both Petra, in 1977 and 1984, and Kiss in 1991, both with modified lyrics.
They need to play this song on MTV more Christian song less Rock songs if you don't like it too bad my friends.
Interesting. From what I got from Kiss' interview was that they basically swapped songs for each other to use. Either way, this is still a great song.
Kiss did an interview way back and said they let Petra use this riff as Petra let Kiss use another song of theirs.
God will decided that ;)
Louie Weaver, highly underrated drummer.
He's a outstanding drummer and should be given more credit.
John Schlitt has always reminded me of Kevin Sorbo's little brother.
I also thought the same way, but, who knows, I mean, many songs follow the same pattern, then we could say there are no original song writers, but that would be way out of line, I am also a guitarrist (guitar player) and song writer, but I understand what you mean, it does sound like "Heaven´s on fire"... who knows...
God =Truth/ God is eternal/ so God = truth/ and that = inspiration/ so God inspired that riff before kiss was even a lip. Just a thought.
I don't see the relevance of why Kiss is even being compared to Petra? I do know that Kiss with all their supposed great fan base according to Gene Simmons are still only a one hit wonder as a group, have never sang for Jesus and Petra carry's on yet where is the supposed mighty kiss. I grew up from the 60's on and have seen them come and go. God Bless Petra!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video ......I have Louie Weaver's autograph from 1994
petra is the best rock group EVER! christian or secular.
I was going to bring up God Gave Rock and Roll to You, too, until I found out it was originally from Argent and not Petra. But it doesn't matter if they stole the riff from Kiss or not. Bands do it all the time. I'm sure if I thought about it, I could probably think of 100 examples.
Kiss actually did the song after Petra: "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" is a 1973 song by the British band Argent and covered by both Petra, in 1977 and 1984, and Kiss in 1991, both with modified lyrics.
The riff Petra has "borrowed" from the Kiss song Heaven's on fire. In this video at 0:30.
Thanks bro. Stay blessed!
I was just talking about the way they sounded. There is nothing to research here. Just a perception!
True. I never realized it. The Chorus part!
Weaver is rockin' the short shorts!!! haha
1 black sheep on the family
Clarifying my last post: Re KISS's intent being"fun rather than evil," what I meant was that I don't lump together all people who engage in 'bad' behavior. I make a distinction between artists who intentionally embrace immoral/bad behavior or even outright evil vs. artists who may 'do wrong' but don't knowingly see it that way. There are artists who are basically good people but misled, contrasted with people who aren't good people to begin with and don't care about right or wrong regardless.
@kds5102
Re your other comments, I agree. I'm just discovering Petra & learning of their history (with help from Wikipedia), but like you, I'm more familiar with KISS from my teen years. I was never a rabid KISS fan like some people, but they have some songs I like (e.g., "Shout It Out Loud" & "Detroit Rock City"). They also have some that, like you, I can't support in good conscience (lyrically). FWIW, at least they weren't singing about the devil, and their intent was fun rather than evil.
@kds5102
You said, "Yeas I know Petra didn't write the song because at the time it was one of the few that Bob Hartman didn't write."
Well, then why did you say earlier that KISS "stole a song from them"? If Petra didn't write or record it first, KISS couldn't have "stolen" it from them, right?
Re Petra putting it on BEAT THE SYSTEM in '84, actually they put in on their second album in 1977 first.
No offense intended -- just clarifying & lettin' you know. :-)
Trying to compare Petra to Kiss is impossible they are both legends but at opposite sides of the lifestyle universe. Petra promotes the love of God & Kiss promotes the love of Sex, (example Heavens On Fire).
Yeas I know Petra didn't write the song because at the time it was one of the few that Bob Hartman didn't write. Petra put that song on their Beat The System album in 1984 & was critisized by some for doing it. Within the Christian Rock community it was a big hit. As far as the Bands knowing each other I can't say but they are morally & lyrically polar opposites.I have been huge fans of both bands, (KISS & Petra), at different points in my life so I have a pretty good idea where they stand.
@kds5102
You said, " ... they were just poking fun at KISS who stole a whole song from them. God Gave Rock & Roll to You was recorded by Petra long before Kiss stole it, so lets chill out!"
That's not quite right. The original song was written by Russ Ballard of the English band Argent and recorded by them in 1973. Petra covered it in 1977, and KISS did their version in 1992. Only KISS's version was a hit.
A nod to KISS though? One would assume so, given the obvious chorus duplication. ;-)
Oh my gosh, this is the most awesome Petra video EVER! Where did you get it?!?
Love Hartman with the judge's wig...
@andykrikkit From a legal standpoint... no it's not. You be surprised how many artists borrow riffs from other bands.
They most likly had connections and were allowed to use some of their songs. Petra and kiss share at least two songs. I'm sure it was all because they know each other.
@metalfranlazar777 If you really knew Petra at all, you would know they were just pocking fun at KISS who stole a whole song from them. God Gave Rock & Roll To You was recorded by Petra long before Kiss stole it so lets chill out!
@metalfranlazar777 If eally knew Petra at all you would know they were just having a little at the expence of KISS who stole a whole song from them. God Gave Rock & Roll To You was recorded by Petra long before Kiss stole it so lets chill out!
Good Artists Copy, but Great Artists Steal
SUUUPERR COOOLLLL!!!!
@AceFrehleyEricCarr obviously you missed the point. A lot of rock groups back then sounded the same. I'm sure Kiss used some of Petra's music too. For those who don't listen to Petra they would never know. Look at artists today, taking ideas from one another. Trying to get the top spot. Guess what? It was the same back then. Only thing with Petra, they really didn't care if they hit number 1. They were singing for the One True God.
@AceFrehleyEricCarr was it a burn? To some people who are blind, God is in the sky, if that was a burn, I'd hate to see a kill. That was no burn, Answer me this, when did Kiss stop releasing new music? When did they stop concerts? Petra only in the past 5-10 years stopped releasing. Petra lasted a lot longer than Kiss.
@kenaniah2000 .. and they all sound like Pachelbel...
@NecramoniumKISSvideo sorry to hear that. and He is not in the sky, heaven is in your heart. Thats why they call it belief and faith and not religion. Believing in Him is a lifestyle. As this song says, sometimes God's children need to be seen and not heard.
@NecramoniumKISSvideo Petra is an awesome band, have you heard their other music? and for your information, a lot of rock groups back then all sounded similar. who says kiss didnt get their music idea from another group? think about that? didn't think so. plus this is better message than kiss music.
Wonderful music video.
The best Petra hard rock song from 'the best' Petra CD ever, Beyond Belief! Thanks for giving me a great alternative growing up. Petra rocks!
Awsome song the church and beliver need have this song in walk the walk be more like Jesus.......
