Petra - Never Say Die Lyrics

You've been tossing in your sleep
All the promises you made that you couldn't keep
And you're feeling sorry for yourself
Think He's done with you, had Him on the shelf
And you're tired of running the race
Straying to and fro, falling on your face
Oh, you want to throw your towel on in
Brother before you do, you better think again

Never say die, no
You've come too far to turn back now
Give it one more try and He'll help you through
Never say die, no
We are weak but He is strong
and strength He will supply
When you ask Him to

You went wrong, you remember when
Instead of pressing toward the mark you missed it once again
And you think that you're the only one
Who's ever come your way and done what you have done
So you try to tuck your tail and run
But then you realize you're back where you've begun
Oh can't you see Him waiting there for you?
With arms wide open now, wanting to see you through

Press on, press on
Keep your hand upon that plow
Press on, press on
And he will lead you through somehow

I cannot help but think that " The Coloring Song " by Petra is the closest a Christian rock band has come to embrace the sound of classic Folk rock :)

    M.... R....

Did Greg X. Volz sing this Version? I am going to guess he didn't sing the Washes Whiter Than... Version. lol

    E.... H....

Edward Hutchinson - Greg Volz joined Petra for the recording of Washes Whiter Than. Their prior album 'Come And Join Us', & their first album (self titled 'Petra') had Bob Hartman as the singer.

Thank you Petra for bringing comfort and encouragement to God 's family and heaven's hope message to the world.

Someone wondered why verses 2 and 4 start on the 3rd beat. It's an illusion because we drop two beats at the end of every vocal chorus, ie, 0:31. If you count straight through by fours, you will think the verses start on different beats.

    J.... S....

That always drove me nuts. But now i think it just makes the song what it is and i love it!

Of all musicians/bands I have heard in my entire lifetime, this song is one of the best. It's not very hard to play musically (A flat Major), but I think it's the lyrics that really places this song in one of my favourites!

  26. C.... P....

@gill73115 they did make a new album it came out in November of 2010 it is called "Back to the Rock"

  27. D.... N....

I really like this song, but I always wondered why they changed where they start. Verses 1 and 3 start on the downbeat, while 2 and 4 start on the third beat.

  28. b.... ....

this was my daughters favorite song-now I hope to make it my grand daughters. Welcome back guys!

  29. m.... ....

I saw Peta for the first time at West Virginia University in Morgontown, W.Va and this was the album that they just released. It was fabulous.

I'd like to know what is that flute like instrument. It sure sounds like something live (not a synth, a wind blow can be heard) and it sounds like a portable organ or something of that sort because I can hear there is no dynamics in the sound. Maybe someone could summon Mr. Slick to enlighten us?

  31. v.... ....

    LOLOLOLOLOLOL

    v.... ....

    What's your problem?

  32. m.... ....

Man, I grew up on Petra. I just turned 30 last week, but they're still my favorite all time band. They still Rock!!!

  33. N.... ....

Great classic from my childhood. I actually went to church where the songwriter Dave Eden and saw him sing this about 100 times almost 20 years ago. Good 'ol days!
