Periphery - Habitual Line-Stepper Lyrics
We walked the line
Living in a state of mind controlled by a tyrant
Mistakes burn
Never did he learn to back off and spit that shit
I'm that motherfucker picking in your old brain and stealing sleep
Now it's on you
Your tower is falling down into a black hole
Take it away
Take it away now
The agony is crumbling over your soul
Take it away
Take it away now
I'd like to take the prize of your high and jam it deep down your throat
You were the barricading man
They're calling for the stage to give everything away
You were the barricading man
Your tower is falling down into a black hole
Take it away
Take it away now
The agony is crumbling over your soul
Take it away
Take it away now
Lost in the violent throes of this separation
Done waiting on pleasant times
They never arrived
Lost in the violent throes of this separation
Know what you're waiting for?
Watch as they burn your home
I felt insane, but it's finally come home to me...
My dear brain, hate
Feel hate
Let go of all your fear
They're calling for the stage to take their breath away
You were the barricading man
They're calling for the stage to give everything away
You were the barricading man
Show us the way
Your tower is falling down into a hole
The agony is pouring over your damned soul
Was there a way to be a better man and stay?
Was there a way?
We'll never know
Show us the way
Was there a way to be a better man and stay?
Was there a way?
We'll never know

In my top 3 songs across all genres
Charliiieee Murphaaayyy
big boss hard
Masterpiece! One of the best songs from this album.
Best song on the album. So underrated
I'm still waiting on PERIPHERY to make these other classics like “WHO WANTS PANCAKES", “UNITY ON HIS FOREHEAD", “THE MILK'S GONE BAD", & the classic “FUCK YO COUCH"
Everyone talking about 4:21 but really 5:02 ... that riff is so SINISTER!!!! Heaviest shit I ever heard
Why is it not on spotify?
Love that 10/8 section @5:38
That part is 4/4+4/4+2/4 so it's 10/4
Fuck your couch Nigga!!!
Somewhere Charlie Murphy is looking at Rick James and this is on
2:10 AWESOME!
This is my favourite Periphery song I've heard so far, I love how they manage to have disgusting heavy segments that make me have a testosterone boner and then beautiful orchestra segments with chord progressions i can only wish to ever think of (2:10 and the outro) but everything fits nicely in one song and doesn't feel out of place at all.
Can’t wait for the new album!!! 🤘🤘
Chappelle Show brought me here.
Me: I wish Periphery did more breakdowns
Periphery: **Snaps fingers**
This is the best God Damn Song title Ive ever seen. "He steps over lines habitually" Lmao Good on you guys for making metal all around more entertaining, I like this song more than the rest of the album, not sure if its the title or the heavy ass sound but ME LIKEY
Was there a way to be a better man and change.........was there a way? We'll never know!
This song is a progressive master piece !! The panned guitars starting from 4:13 have a video game vibe or something... Love that part.. !
The lyrics in the description are really off lol
Kevin McAllister
“I’m not afraid anymore!”
objectively the best song on the album, yet most underrated
One of my personal faves
5:40 "show us the wae" , they've predicted a meme.
This song is wayyyyy too epic for that meme though
That's fucking hilarious
The ghost note matching of the kick drum on the breakdown at 5:19 is one of the more genius and skillful drum moves out there.
Makes me want to shove drugs in my ass hole. Strong.... real strong.
I CAN MANAGE THE DOUBLE BASS IN THE BEGINNING!!! NO JOKES
5:38 the end of this fucking music is unbelievable
Me: damn i wish some band would make a better breakdown other than just generic chugs
Periphery: aye lmao I got you my guy
Retarded, fucking, stupid good.
Charlie Murphy!
I was listening to this constantly when I was in the midst of a falling-out with a friend that was incredibly toxic. Keeping that in mind the song definitely helped to remove the worst of my aggression towards them but it still does hit pretty hard.
So the section @5:38 is in 5/4, 10/8, or we can use etiher one?
its 5/4

0:10 "We walked the line
living in a state of mind controlled by a TOILET"
Freddie Lo typical Periphery humor
Ilian Petit lmao that’s not what he actually says
I've always heard that in my hand.
First time hearing a full song from this band........ It's ok.
Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy.
REST IN PEACE CHARLIE MURPHY!!!
Weird. As soon as this song started playing my laptop caught fire. In hindsight, typing out this comment probably wasn't the smartest move as my hands are now on fire.
Brian Ashe did it really "Catch fire"?
Sure it's something when we all catch fire sometimes.
Brian Ashe are you confusing fire with jizz?
The breakdown in this song is so powerful it could defeat ISIS
So if Periphery's usual release schedule is anything to go by, we'll have a new album soon right? lol
Nicolas Hunt probably next week or something
me: I wish periphery did some breakdowns
Peripher: Hold on boy
This fucking song tho 😣😓
Amazing.
Dewey.. Did you just grab my ass???
4:06 favorite part
Great song, love the drumming and guitar work.
5:38 and on, I could listen to over and over and over. Totally fucking perfect.
Matt, please create drum cover of this masterpiece :D.
5:38 that ENDING
Is taking a dump in the middle of the streets illegal?
0:13 - CONTROLLED BY A TOILET!!!
Donald Record Hahahah this is all I hear every time
Not a single man compares to Spencer when it comes to singing. Ever.
anthony green is up there
Cheis Barretto has a similar style but is a bit better imo. Spencer is great though
Lukas Magyar
Pavarotti
se fueron a la mierda con este disco. La mejor banda, lejos. Saludos desde Buenos Aires
O desfecho desse som é belíssimo 5:38
One of the best albums in years.
Why am I just now hearing this black magic. \m/
講得很讚!堅持加油,堅持努力分享才會有成績。董講師祝福。註:要是你覺得欣賞,請追蹤我的頻道。
This is the best song on this album from a progressive standpoint.
4:23 reflexive headbanging begins
This is periphery at it's finest. Amazing song. This and absolomb hit me the hardest. The whole album is epic.
Lost in the violent throes...
LORD HAVE MERCY THIS SONG IS SO AMAZING IT HURTS
Sticking to 5/8 is awesome!
The music does nothing for me but the overall mastery of it all is simply jaw dropping...
Wow! I love it!
This deserves a music video
What is he saying at 6:04 (harsh)? I can't find it on the lyrics!
"Come on, come on, will you show the way? Show us the way!"
5:40 Show us the way, your dad was falling down into the hole. lol
eat my babies is that a breakdown
shit son when it hits at 4:23 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG. So good.
4:21 holy shit balls
They sure as hell dont miss a breakdown when they do one.
4:04 That growl.
Something about the cleans just makes my dick rock hard.
Anyone got a Spiraling Void feel from the intro?
5:01 very awesome breakdown
Charlie Murphy!!!
I wonder if the little references to Monuments/Quasimodo in the intro is intentional
easily one of their best track's outro to date.
If they force that nonskippable 30 second ad I'm going to shit everywhere
00:29 how come nobody is talking one of the best riffs ever? Love this.
Charly Murphy ;) Just saying.
Soul leaves body @ 4:20
This Shit is so metal!! 🔥
Thall better recognize!
I'm really happy that nobody else was in my car when this came on and I screamed with joy
Without trying to start a hefty discussion; exactly what genre is this? I've been listening to metal for ages, but this sounds a bit closer to djent?
This would be djent! That is what Periphery does, good shit!
progressive metal. djent isn't a genre.
Opinion: Periphery might be the most over-rated band in the scene
let me guess, you're a trivium fan.
I've been making 100% of my income from music for the last 10 years. Mostly teaching guitar and playing in bar bands with a little bit of production every now and then and to be honest sometimes music gets really fucking old. This album actually has me excited about music for the first time in quite a while. I think this may be their best work. What a fantastically diverse display of musicianship. Cheers boys.
Man, I wish I had a physical copy of the album. I went to get one on release date, and got 3 stores that were sold out of it. Then on my way back home I got into an accident...
4:23 Nolllllllllyyyyyyy
Fuck yo couch!
I really do wonder if they'll be able to pull this one off live. The amount of endurance required to not pussyfoot, but really audibly stomp the 32nd notes at the beginning plus finish the rest of the song PLUS nine or ten other songs is insane. Matt doesn't use double strokes, let alone trigger his kick so this is the real deal. In a way, I see this being the "Demon's Name Is Surveillance" of this album.
Daniel Calderon they crushed it live! I was thoroughly impressed
