Periphery - Captain On Lyrics
Somewhere beyond this sight
Nothing so clear
Reaching in endless night
Colors disappear
Sell the lies we all will speak
Don't ever ask the questions challenging the prophecies
Silent storm
Following the stars
Shifting form
Dwell in reverie
Resurrection in time
We Suppress every reason
Nothing can change
The reality of it all will never be left for us to find
Somewhere withing the glow, enter
We fall
Holding the shadow close
We hear the call
Solace finding even flow in life
Don't ever ask the questions challenging the prophecies
Pleasant this solitude in violent forms and waves
The final blow is struck
Silent storm
Following the stars
shifting form
Dwell in reverie
Moving forward on the path
Deliver us from the daggers in our hearts
The final blow is struck
Pleasant this solitude in violent forms and waves
The final blow is struck

Periphery Captain On Comments
Spencer is the greatest metal vocalist of all time. So versatile. Hes a modern day Michael Jackson or Freddy mercury 👌🔥
Few things will ever match the majesty that was the Icarus EP, I wish this particular style of Djent didnt die out as much as it did :/
OKAY so at 2:34 after "daggers in our hearts" he says something that I SWEAR TO GOD sounds like "come back to the human calling" yet everytime I look up the lyrics anywhere it always says the line at 2:34 is "the final blow is struck" which theres no way it could be, I need help please, let me know I'm not insane
"human calling" just takes place right before "final blow," so you are hearing it correctly. I think the Genius page on this song has it listed correctly.
@Joe Copp Turns out I was reading the lyrics for the pre-EP version which does not have that line haha
Racecar and this has a so much different vibe. So special.
II and III are by far better than anything else periphery ever made. what a shame
that part at 1:29...just, goddamn, chills....EVERY.FREAKIN.TIME
I could probably listen to this song on repeat forever and never get tired of it.
i cant believe im only listening to this EP now.....7 years after it´s release
I'm 6 years late to commenting (don't be fooled, I've been listening to this song since the EP dropped) but this is one of my favorite songs ever released by this band. There's something extremely hopeful and resplendent about it, almost nostalgic- I think the tuning lends to that, it honestly reminds me of Racecar the most which also had the same sort of nostalgic or reminiscent vibe. Also the open low string note during the chorus is one of the heaviest things I've ever heard, the bass mixing on this EP/track is nothing short of genius. A good mix will make anything monstrous! Who agrees?
Yeah I feel like this is one of their best songs. Great atmosphere to it. Totally nostalgic for some reason.
@D T Hell yeah dude. I wish they would make more songs like the first album, as much as I hate to admit it. There was a majesty about it that the most recent stuff doesn't have, because the recent stuff favours the dramatic flair of being a bigger band, and the older stuff was simply honest music simple as that. The new stuff is great, to be fair, but I just feel like the older material had goals to aspire towards, heights to reach. And it achieved that. Then everything sorta plateau'd, and the music took a turn into political and social territory where all the songs feel kind of forced out and overly flashy.
Great Vibes
lyrics:
Somewhere beyond this sight
Nothing so clear
Reaching in endless night
Colors disappear
Separate the air we breathe
Sell the lies we all will speak
Don't ever ask the questions challenging the prophecies
Silent storm
Following the stars
Shifting form
Dwell in reverie
Resurrection in time
We Suppress every reason
Through these eyes perception bleeds mortality from my soul
Nothing can change
The reality of it all will never be left for us to find
Somewhere withing the glow, enter
We fall
Holding the shadow close
We hear the call
Solace finding even flow in life
Don't ever ask the questions challenging the prophecies
Pleasant this solitude in violent forms and waves
The final blow is struck
Silent storm

Tyler Mabry I
What does he say at 2:37? His background vocal... Sounda like he says (Uni Calling) lol
1:05 still gives me goosebumps.
honestly still my favourite riffery song. how the fuck do they make 13/8 so fucking catchy?
I mean, it's just a time signature dog.
how can you identify a time signature that complex without looking at it under waveform lol. did you just throw that out there?
Nah, just takes a bit of extra observance I guess.
There's 13 beats per measure, and in this song an eighth note gets the beat. Hence, 13/8. I agree it definitely sounds pretty nuts, but if you play the video at like half speed and count out the number of beats (basically every individual note in the main riff as they're just straight eighth notes) per cycle of the riff, you'll get 13 as your total. Just when you think music is the furthest thing from math class.. hahaha.
(Also not trying to sound snooty or mocking, I'm sure you already knew half of this but I wanted to explain it more in-depth in case anyone else had the same question lol)
es tan genial xd
Keep Calm and Captain On \m/
The vocal harmony at 1:29 holy shit
His voice was so guttural back then. Not necesarily bad.....But so much better now.
Arguably my favorite Periphery song. Listen to it every time I'm feeling victorious
i like how i the breaher and borns discovery album artwork use the exact same color scheme
my favorite periphery song right now
Has he changed his voice? Did you really just ask that?
Yo dude calm down. You look like a 10 year old dude. Are you even allowed to Djent on the internet?
He got waaaayyyy better at singing and screaming
is this singer still in the band? or has he changed his voice?
no. Spencer stays on. and forever will for the love of god
Aha thanks I get it now... =D
search periphery in 8 seconds
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one!
You're not alone...I feel left out :(
I see this comment every time I come to listen to this song and I still don't understand it lol
Sex INTO thy ears.
Yes , it is ! =D
This song leaves me speechless... It´s PERFECT.
ya the lead melody that runs throughout the song is definitely a 13 count, the drums and rhythm guitar over it don't seem to match up all the time though
sounds like 13/8
no, he just has a naturally high pitched talking voice, and his scream is a technique which really emphasisez your natural voice in your scream. alot like joe buras from born of osiris screams are the same thing. they reflect off of his natural voice.
i dont see why....?
did he used to inhale scream? sounds like it
sounds like jens there lawlz
...then none of them would be great.
If only every band was this great........
@4stringFanatico I can hear the 13 count in the finger tap riff but completely lose it in the drums and rhythm guitar parts, mind boggling syncopation
@jamminkeys the meter for the finger tap riff that is pretty much everywhere in the song is 13/8
what the f is the meter in this song, driving me crazy
awesome song btw
Djimmies been rustled.
Like if your djenitals have been tingled♥
this song should be way more popular
I agree with that BIG TIME !!!!!!!!
Holy fuck!! That´s the first time I hear this song, and it goes straight into my top 10 of all time greatest songs! Welcome in heaven!
^ This.
Why? lol
Whenever I hear this I think of F-Zero
*listens to song and questions sexual orientation.*
come back to the human calling.
right?
they are more like a slightly softer version of BOO
Periphery and Boo are two totally different type of metal bands/genre's
PLUS i never mentioned anything about the vocals.... -.- Have u listened to the old school periphery? its just the same... i have their demo's as a garage and local band. It has that progressive meoldic sound.
YOU must not of even listened to them period. They both have a sporatic melody with the keyboard and have the progressive feedback on their guitar work. The drum is a back step down and is technical.
@willgowne Where the flying fuck do you get Slipknot out of this?
@fallbutcantgetup Who have an occasional threesome with Dream Theater, and have TesseracT film it.
This is like veil of maya and born of osiris having an affair..
Through these eyes perception bleeds mortality from my soul! That line is so damn epic
@Toxin08 Meshuggah in less than 10 seconds?
@ANOTHERLAST666 He says 'come back to the human calling'
@willgowne Trolololol.....?
@outlaw454070907 It sounds like "Kill all that are UNICORNNS"
@ANOTHERLAST666 The line is "Come back to the human calling". I had to look everywhere in the world to find that.
Does someone know what he says says at 2:35 , instead of "the final blow is struck" on the original version, that's something like "... ... hear it coming"
7 year late response but I’m sure it’s “Hear them calling”
This song is incredible
when he said 'reality' at 1:22 it made me lol
This song is a bone-chiller. Fucking love it.
