Paxton, Tom - Every Time Lyrics

Every time I hear a sweet bird singin',
I think of you and I my dear, I think of you and I.
When I hear the evenin' bells a-ringin',
I hang my head and cry my dear, I hang my head and cry.
And they will ring, and they will ri - i - ing
When we are gone.

Every time I hear your soft voice hummin',
My heart jumps in my breast my dear, my heart jumps in my breast.
And until I hear your footsteps comin',
I sure can know no rest my dear, I sure can know no rest.
I will love you,I will love you - ou - ou
When we are gone.
I will love you,I will love you - ou - ou
When we are gone.

The song continues to touch my soul and I cannot help but shed a tear or two. Thanks for those years between 1967-1970, Tom.

One of the most delightful songs written by this great troubadour. Why only 8,5020 views?

Love Finbar Furey singing this song from The Fureys and Davey Arthur

    R.... S....

I hadn't realised that was a Tom Paxton song. Finbar always sounded to my ear as singing ".... I think of you and die." Makes more grammatical sense at least. But few native English speakers know the difference between "me" and "I". Most European speakers who learn English as a second language know the difference.

But in all the dozens of great Tom Paxton songs, there is only one other grammatical 'error' I know of. That's in The Marvellous Toy, "... he loves it just like me. " Peter Paul and Mary make a joke out of it in an old clip.

@Frank Watt Probably the Dublin accent. Did you notice that they also slightly altered the lyrics. Can you confirm if the lyrics of a song are altered the original composer can not claim copyright? Doesn't sound right to me. Heard this from s friend the other night..

@Michael Crowe ᄊc S friend is talking rubbish. Men at Work lost a case (and a huge amount of money) when the copyright holder of a children's song about kookaburras claimed "A Man From Downunder" infringed 'their' copyright even though only one bar was the only comparison.

Meantime, Kid Ory's estate lost their claim that "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die" by Country Joe and the Fish copied "Muskat Ramble" -- despite whole lines of melody being identical.

Thank you for posting this. It's at least as gorgeous as anything else that Tom has written.
