Paul Simon - Wristband Lyrics
I stepped outside the backstage door to breathe some nicotine
And maybe check my mailbox, see if I can read the screen
Then I heard a click, the stage door lock
I knew just what that meant
I'm gonna have to walk around the block if I wanna get it in
Wristband, my man, you got to have a wristband
If you don't have a wristband, my man, you don't get through the door
Wristband, my man, you got to have a wristband
And if you don't have a wristband, my man, you don't get through the door
I can't explain it, I don't know why my heart beats like a fist
When I meet some dude with an attitude saying "hey, you can't do that, or this"
And the man was large, a well-dressed six-foot-eight
And he's acting like Saint Peter standing guard at the pearly...
If you don't have a wristband, you don't get through the door
And I said "Wristband? I don't need a wristband
My axe is on the bandstand, my band is on the floor"
I mean it's just...
[Scat]
(Wristband)
(Wristband)
(Wristband)
(Wristband)
(Wristband)
(Wristband)
(Wristband)
The riots started slowly with the homeless and the lowly
Then they spread into the heartland towns that never get a wristband
Kids that can't afford the cool brand whose anger is a short-hand
For you'll never get a wristband and if you don't have a wristband then you can't get through the door
No you can't get through the door
No you can't get through the door
Say you can't get through the door, no

Paul is the 'musical Yoda'. Long live Paul Simon!
paul Simon is a great talent, its funny that i never appreciated him when i was younger and i.'m 70 years old.
...one chord throughout and the overwhelming message...amazing...

Love this song. Lyrics are brilliant as usual. So true about the bouncer acting like St Peter. Self important with an attitude. Even Paul Simon gets the attitude and he's a legend!
This is absolute gold and one of my favourite Paul Simon numbers. The number of views for this is appalling.
Thank you for allowing Kodi to sing your iconic song. Bridge over troubled waters. " God speaks"
Paul Simon is...ageless. love the bass too, my ex was an amazing bassist and he would've loved this.
I don't quite know what has happened to the world but the only people outside of my family and friends who can keep me sane are musicians. There is hope.
I walked from south Brooklyn to Coney and back...
I just finished watching "The concert for Central Park" (1982) and it's so odd seeing Paul Simon so much older, but his voice has not aged a bit. He still sounds the same!
I cannot get this song out of my head!
Never gets old... Thanks, Mr. Simon!
Genius, great Singer ! Thank you Paul for sharing Your tallent with us. May GOD bless U.
1:49, when the rhyme is so obvious.. you skip the rhyme-word.. lovely cool amazing skill
Excellent
Paul still has it after all these years making great music.
I've never heard a live version of this song where he gets the lyrics right lol
I lost my wrist band along time ago. But this song will be me .... Forever
Still so damn cute - I just wanna squeeze him till he squeaks 😍
An incredible, incredible song.
He's a genius, don't get me wrong... But ... to be totally honest... i wouldn't have recognized him either...
cris vlaanderen has been mistreating me badly, kicked me to the streets but still has sex with me he wants a younger kid, that's why I can't live at home anymore
Hey is that Joe Scarborough in a tonytail wig sans glasses?!
Only Paul Simon could write a great song about something as mundane as a wristband.
Seriously? You think that's what he's talking about...?
He gets better and better and better. Yeah. I think "musical genius" applies.
Pounamu from Aotearoa around your neck. Churrrr brother!
It's a pretty good song, but I can't listen to it without thinking of "short man syndrome".
oof. Classic unclear-on-the-concept here, dude.
Eargasm
Get down my man. I see what thay are playing music with thay have a bed pan
La media onda!!! buenísimo!!!!
I love this song. Was so sad that so few people in the audience knew it when he played it live. That bass-line just kicks.
Woo hoo..., I was fortunate enough to see him during his Farewell tour in Tampa on 9/7/18..., cost me 2 car payments, but I’d do it again and again. AWESOME concert,....!! I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel, and this is why I am not sad they went separate ways..., Paul Simon so expanded when they split..
alive in sunnyvale ca, by the side of the road. i did not get a wristband. heart you till i die
Ever the genius.
❣I love you Paul Simon for so many year, you still rock my soul @ 70...keep going with your stories.
Thank you, Paul! You are truly "Funky'
He doesn't step up to bat very often anymore, but be careful when he does because he's swinging for the parking lot!
How do you make a song out of this? ... lol!
Saw Paul Simon on this tour at the Ryman and had seats close enough to really observe his mannerisms. It was neat to see him with Vincent one last time before he passed away. As always, he was incredible live and packed not only energy but an incredible sincerity into everything that he does. One of 20th century popular music's greatest treasures.
lovelovelove
Ashamed to say that I only heard this for the first time on Sunday at PS's Hyde Park gig - loved it straight off - so catchy.
Heard this one yesterday at his concert. Great little gem.
Wow - he’s more vital/relevant in his seventies than most artists ever are.
I'm a huge Paul Simon fan have seen him 3 times in concert but look up the zip code song from 1963 and you'll see the similarities of The Wristband to that song
What song are you alluding to? I want to compare it too, but I can't find a zip code song?
Me encanta absolutamente todo el trabajo musical! Es increíble, me da emoción escucharlos.
Just saw you play this live here in Denver
Can't stop listening to this song.
I
Love
This
Song
Great tune. Super funky and fun to listen to. I first heard it driving around my home town. I thought, is this Paul Simon? I don't know this song... it can't be... must be some new guy trying to sound like Paul Simon.
I hate you Ms.Larkins
such an excellent song on so many levels. wow - i think i will be forever sad that i didn't get the chance to see him live.
Shit man, 50+ year-long musical under his belt and he’s still got it! This guy and Elton John are both actual living legends tbh. Rock on Simon!! 🤟🏻
The best song writer in the universe ever, from me in the UK, love you USA
So good, and so sadly true
Love it, absolutely wonderful !!!!
Lovin it!!!!!!
you can call me Al
A true legend.......one of the finest songwriters of all time.
This is my 2year-old's favorite song. She used to sing "you don't need a band-aid, my axe is on the floor!" Ahahaha. We call her Spooky Boo and she has great taste in music. 💚
profound and clear... and catchy too
oh yeah...you still got it, Paul
Paul’s still got it, this rocks awesome percussion
this has to be the worst paul simon song ive ever heard
where is Edie B?
Better than the studio version ... and oh, what a great song. (Don't like the 'clap percussion on the studio version.)
i'm not hung up on graceland as good as that is, i like all of his work and this album is great, it's rare to get a bad track from Paul Simon, bought this album right away last year, its good he made this one a single with the video, remember to never forget your Wristband
A lot of what made me love 60-70's music is dead or retired since a while, but when it comes to see dudes like Paul f*ckin Simon, one of THE artists/songwriters from these times, stilling performing and creating new songs at the dawn of 2020's makes me cry tears of joy
It gets me, but I don't know if it sends me.
greatness!
That was awesome....
Who is better than PS!
Paul's music has captured me since the 60's. His music goes deep into the soul.
Saw Paul and the band last night in Atlanta, and really enjoyed this new song! Fun to dance to.
Good music does this, it sounds better live than the song in the record. Now a days, everyone depends on a producer to make them sound right, and when you listen to them Live you can't believe its the same band. Paul Simon does the opposite...
But where are the band credits?
Cool,very very cool!
Kick ass.Paul Simon always stays on top somehow
I love this song... I'm glad he didn't get a wristband!
sa musique c'est du grand art ...
I cannot believe this thing has so few views. It's awesome.
Puta que Viejo mas Cachimbon VIVA
super mon artiste préféré
dammm hes looking good for his age
tdshat eh I wish I could say that but man his plastic surgery ain’t that good, really.
rrright?
I have never seen anyone sing with less emotion! lol, but i love this song.
They are rehearsing
love this, the band is awesome, Paul simon is the best.Donna
definitely just a practice, this lacked the true vigor we know Paul by
Consistently great music for 50 years. An amazing poet. He should have gotten the Nobel prize. I love his stories.
Leonard Cohen should've got it. Period.
Paul Simon sure knows how to arrange a mean percussion ensemble, as demonstrated in Cecilia and now this!

YEES! <3
DAMN THIS SHIT IS LIT IS HE THE NEXT LIL UZI OR DRAKE??!?!
Help me reach 2000 subscribers without videos! Get outta here with Lil Uzi and Drake, Paul Simon has released 13 studio albums as a solo artist, let alone his hits with Art Garfunkel. I doubt Lil Uzi and Drake will make it to 75, let alone still making "music".
America??? America??? Whatcha doing. It's a nightmare
fuck yes! brilliant
"... and if you don't have a wristband, you don't get through the door;..." Cute, catchy song with some thoughtful lyrics.
Don`t know who wrote text/lyrics for song but it is so funny...LOVE IT
