Paul Simon - Was A Sunny Day Lyrics
Was a sunny day
Not a cloud was in the sky
Not a negative word was heared
From the people passing by
Was a sunny day
And the radio's singing song
All the favorite melodies
He was a navy man
Stationed in Newport News
She was a high school queen
With nothing left to lose
CHORUS
She was his only girl
She called him Speedoo
But his Christian name
Was Mr.Earl
CHORUS

A classic.
The musical theme of the play and the final song of our portuguese premiere of Israel Horovitz "Hopscotch, in November 1997 in an old arquive building in Porto.
Please stop calling me Speedo. I already told you, my name is Earl. Why would you think it's "Speedo"?
I saw Suzzy Roche a few months aga with ex husband Louden Wainwright and their daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche.
Joyful. Thank you.
Maggie and Terre Roche y'all
I love the feeling this song brings.....not a negative word from the peoples passing by...all the birdies in the tree....jejeje. Love it!

I love the simply nostalgia of this song. It never gets old.
Me encanta la nostalgia sencilla de esta canción. Nunca pierde actualidad.
Takes me back to my childhood
She called him Speedo but his Christian name was Mr Earl
We had an uncle Speed in our family's earlier days, as well. Well loved and respected... ! I think of him and my grandmother, and the bond I could see between them, as siblings, when I hear this tune.

Beautiful song. Thank you for posting!
gr8 song to listen to on this rainy new york day. but can't believe it has only 10,524 hits. gotta do something about that. maybe I'll Share on FB -- just for the heck of it :-)
At first I was wondering what all the Maggie Roche posts were about. Then I looked at the song credits in this post. I had no idea she and Terre sang on this! (Guess Suzzy couldn't make it.) :-)
Dear Maggie,
Thank you for your generous spirit, your infectious smile, and your loving nature. Thank you for the memories of my younger days.
Affectionately,
Jennifer
RIP Maggie!
R.I.P Maggie Roche, who died on January 21, 2017.
Every time I see Maggie's name I feel this deep loss and my eyes well up. It's difficult to hope and I see now how much hope the Roches brought to me.
aww, im sad about that. RIP
I thought the hamonies were by Graham Nash.. they're by the Roche sisters.
Always liked this song because it mentions my hometown of Newport News.
i am from western canada, specifically the rockies, and i love this song because it is the only time i participated in stealing a fancy car...and my name is laura lei!!!!!!so you can see how i thought, at 14 this song was all about ME. And now when I hear this I will think of my friend roy in Newport xoxo
